£36.04 delivered @ Novatech

I don't think you're ever gonna get a perfect piece of kit for that price but it does offer good value for money.

If you buy through Novatech you can have 3% Quidco too!

I have one, not fantastic was bought in by the usb and sd card reader for internet movies. Had problems getting it to work with HDMI cable. Picture not great on SD or HD. As someone else has said go with philips or toshiba. However I got it for £27 and is good value for money at that price. Would definitely not pay £37 pounds though.

same here.
used it the once and now its just gathering dust. didn't see no difference through hdmi at all and the upscaling bit just seems overrated to me

Get the Philips, seriously pay the extra. I got the Philips and have been very happy with it.

I bought one from the same company and it was ******ed within 6 months. Thankfully it had been discontinued and I got a full refund from ebuyer.

The build quality was shocking.

Can you tell us the model please. (I presume Philips has more than one dvd player).

i got one of these and its dvd lasted 3 months odd now it wont load a dvd in at all just errors out, usb still works on it, and hdmi lead has trouble if i move the player it looses picture it is annoying as i have to plug scart in to get hdmi lead to work again then un plug scart :S odd eh. it just collects dust at bottom of my entertainment unit now.

I've got one and as far as I am concerned it sucks. It works - sometimes but it's really standard cheap chinese cr*p.

Mine has issues some of which include: Sometimes to get it to recognise USB or SD media you have to turn it on and off at the wall - quality! The interface sucks. The optical audio out doesn't work, I can only get coaxial. The remote is absolute tacky sh*te - when the machines came out some forum shills bigging it up said in response to criticisms about the remote "well just get a multifunction one instead" No my advice is pay a bit more and get a big name player instead.

There are probably other issues I have forgotten about as I haven't used it since I finally got my ethernet wiring sorted to stream media over the network to my XBMC XBox, which does everything and more that I bought this to do.

Sorry but it's a turkey.

Got one and of course the DVD drive stopped working afer 1 week the day before xmass
The usb works fine which honestly is the real reason I got this player
If your a knock off nigel and download your movies this not to bad.
I will be sending it back to ebuyer once I get back to work though

yeah agree with the above comments poor build quality generally recommend to avoid I bought it for the Divx function had to return it within 6 weeks, got one from Asda for £20 own brand "Onn" got the USB functionality too and so much easier to return if it packs up.

This link is a cracking deal (not the OP - sorry), yes it's more expensive before people start flaming me but what's the point of spending nearly 40 quid on something that is crap:

Click me

I bought the 5980 from Amazon earlier in the year when it was on sale, it's no longer listed so I assume it was the end of line.

Got one of these from CCL for around £30, returned it as it couldn't read disks out of the box. The replacement unit died a few months later.

Aside from the fact that it's a total dud, the build of the unit feels very cheap. Even cheaper than the DVD players you can get from supermarkets.

I remember it being £28 delivered a few months ago from Scan.co.uk.

Good deal
but just read on Divx website that Divx 6.xx is ending soon
message on website
NOTE: Support for DivX for Windows 6.x will end on 2009-03-31 and support for DivX for Mac 6.x will end on 2009-04-15.
Looks like Divx 7.xx is coming out soon which I believe is a total rehash of Divx and will not be useable on previous Divx compatible systems.
