Doesen't look too good on the maplin site. I think I may just go for http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/170146/samsung-dvd-hd870-dvd-player-hdmi-5/ even though the usb on the cheaper one sounds like a good idea.

These are great little players, I got one for my daughter for £40 from ebuyer a while back.

Multi region, plays DivX from USB, upscales pretty well.
Easily worth the money.

Only downise I had was that it wouldn't play films from my 100GB external HDD, but I just use an 8gb USB stick instead.
#21
So would this play say .Avi / .xvid videos from a memory stick :?

thanks
#22
Price really needs changing on the post! Hoted hot.
#23

does someone know answer to this? Electronics these days baffle me a LOT (and I'm only 26 lol).

I'd love a DVD player that I could play stuff from memory stick - usb ones that go in your computer.

If so would it play stuff recorded from my digital camera etc?#

thank youuuuu
#26
it depends what codec your camera records video with.
My samsung NV3 records in MP4 so this dvd player would not play the videos.
#27
Wahoo thanks for this i was just going to order one at full price nows its 28.19 and free shiping ( im a member of bitteck.co.uk :) )

thanks :D

Yep, it plays DivX / Xvid, plus a few other formats (not that they matter), from memory stick.
I chucked a load of downloaded movies and TV series onto my USB stick and it played the lot.

Although it may not play VERY old DivX movies (like version 3 and before) as they weren't based on the mpeg4 codec like the recent DivX codecs, but anything from the last couple of years would be fine.

Also someone said it doesn't look too good on the pics. It actually looks great sitting next to any piano black LCD TV's, doesn't look cheap at all.

I bought one of these from SVP recently. Its got the same name as the one from scan, but it was multi-region out of the box. It was also USB 2.0, which I would have thought that the one from scan would be too.

I gave it a number of Divx / Xvids to play. About 90% played.
Out of the box it didn't play via HDMI. Eventually I had to plug in the scart cable to get into the config and turn this on. Once switched on, then it played via HDMI and curiously played on scart still (wonder why its not switch on as default?).

Plays Divx / Xvids from memory stick + external Hard Drive (although the partition has to be FAT32 and I think there might be an upper limit of 160gb?)

Remote is a bit rubbish, with keys sticking down (check this first if having problems operating the machine). Chuck the batteries that came with it in the bin - totally rubbish ones.

So overall a good / cheap machine. Plays most modern Divx / Xvids. The DVD is compact and has lots of connections on the back for your surround sound systems. 8/10

Surely USB1.1 is far too slow to properly stream MPEG4 / Xvid / DivX etc?????
#32
anybody know if this will play .mkv high definition movie files?
#33
I doubt it will, as my new macbook struggles with some .mkv files

Yes it is really (action scenes a bit jumpy), if it was me I would pay a bit more for the usb2 model.
#35
I suspect that USB1.1 might be a misprint that its actually USB2.0. Would be impossible / unwatchable streaming via USB1.1 (about 50 times slower).
#36
I got this player 2 weeks ago and also a Philips 5980 tried both on two LCD Samsung with hdmi leads. The picture quality on both sets was much better with the Philips, I was disappointed with this dvd player and PC is also better using dvi-hdmi lead

Also it doesn't show a picture straight away with hdmi lead you need to use composite or scart to go in options and set it up, at least I did on mine
#37
It no says on Scan £38.76 Inc VAT I assume without P&P

Just wanted to say that if I hadn't recently bought mine (With USB input) I would be buying this.

Best deal on HDUK today, in my books.

I dont find this upscaling much different - menus look a little better but really it just seems to be the tv that upscales it as i have to adjust each film to make it look good
Got a setting for anime and action etc

It would if it was in FAT32 format
