I got one from Amazon before X-mas, after reading feedback from this site and I was'nt that impressed by the results.
I am not a pro, just a regular user and take shots in auto mode, my main issues are grainy indoor pictures and grainy video.

Temporarily out of stock. This item will be dispatched as soon as it arrives.

A little more detail in the OP would be nice....

This is for the Fujifilm S5700 camera. Remember to get the 4% quidco takes the price to £100.79

Full review here:

Cheaper price here:

http://www.cameras2u.com/Store/s64950/0/Digital-Compact-Cameras/Fujifilm/Finepix-S5700-(Black)/details.aspx
and get 2% quidco (net of VAT) gives £100.46

There's the problem. Try using one of the manual modes and setting the ISO low (100/200). In auto mode they try to get ANY picture by raising the ISO in low light so making the picture more grainy in the process. Auto is really only usable in well lit conditions tbh:thumbsup:

It's not an SLR!
#6
Shengis, that´s exactly what I had to do. I still think this camera is a bargain when you look at specs vs price.
#7
It's NOT an SLR (single lens reflex) camera. The image that you see in the eyepiece is a small video screen, not a direct optical view through the lens.

These are good cameras, I had an earlier version before purchasing a true DSLR, but don't be fooled into thinking that you have anywhere near the same possibilities as a true SLR.
#8
not a good camera. so i rate it cold
#9
You can buy these of ebay much the same price
#10
£92.08 delivered @ Amazon. See the thread by narcist for details:

I has the similar S5000 for a while and I really didn't like it. It had a couple of irritating quirks. Took reasonable photos but not as good as the similarly priced Canon's I've had.
#12
Its not SLR camera, these are what you call Bridge Camera. They bridge the gap between a compact camera and dSLR (with big detachable lens). Going to get this one but I bought Fuji S6500fd on x-mas.
#13
Surboy can you remove "SLR" from the title please just incase anyone is mislead?

Question.

To anyone that knows.
I have a (Rather dated now) Panny FZ3 which I am quite happy with.
Apart from the 3.2 MPs (Cant see a need for more personally), Are there cameras out there for around the 100-120 that are SO much better than mine?

After all, it was highly rated at the time. Carl Ziess, 12x, Anti shake Etc.

FZ12? 12mp, similar setup. Similar price I guess.....

I picked mine up last year when Panasonic were doing the silly money off thing (and some of the retailers felt they needed to do the money off thing so it was double-trouble)
#16
I considered one of these. But went for the Sony H3 instead.

In depth review : http://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/fuji_s700.html

Note: It says S700 but that's just the US model number

I've got one. Takes great photo's but not in 'auto' mode. Learn how to use a proper camera and you've got a bargain with this.
#19
Cheaper @ amazon using free case glitch and out of stock. Cold.

I was quoting the fact that the member voted cold because he did not like the camera.

I am not judging the price.
#24
hmmm, takes 4AA batteries..... i prefer the rechargable types. Yes i know you can get rechargable batteries, but i prefer just plugging in the charger that way. Still looks decent enough for the price!

It's a bit of a tricky one this, I personally think it's ok to vote an item cold based on it's merits (or lack of them) as long as it's due to your own personal experience with that item. If i'd voted cold because I prefer Canon cameras and have never used an S5700 then I agree, that would be wrong, however, if I'd used one and found it not to be as good as a competing camera at a similar price then I think it would be ok to vote cold as there is a better deal available albeit for a different item. I'd then try to explain why, and which camera I'd recommend.

What I don't like is when people vote cold, but give no explanation, or when they have no interest in an item.

Incidentally, I've not voted on this, as I don't know enough about this camera!

I know what you mean. But this is not a review site. This is a deal site.

People should vote on deals alone.

I mean think about it, we get lots of films on here. If I diddnt like the film, should I vote it cold?

There are loads of things I hate on here, but I dont vote cold.

Some people just vote cold for the sake of it, and dont give explanations. But its more fool them to be honest because the best deals wont come out on top.

Amlost every new member who posts a deal apologises if they did something wrong first, because they know they will get slaughtered if they have. This is unfair. And something I feel strong about. Give people a chance. Its like throwing deals to the dogs here.

It appears to be £5 cheaper at Park Cameras (Never used them, so can't vouch for them personally) with free next day delivery.

I generally agree with you, and I think it's ridiculous that people vote cold for a film that they don't like, it's not like you can say "don't buy the Police Academy boxset, it's bobbins, get the De Niro one instead" because films are purely personal. However, with a camera or other piece of electrical equipment it's a bit different as there may be another product for a similar price which does exactly the same but better, in this case it's worth letting people know. There have been loads of posts for poor quality no-name 10MP cameras for £50 which hopefully some people have been put off because they've been voted cold, which if we only voted based on price wouldn't be the case. It should surely be a vote for value for money.

I suppose in an ideal world, when you vote cold you should be forced to give some feedback as to why you think it's a cold vote, then maybe people would think about it more. I completely agree with your sentiments regarding Newbies being put off, I think that a lot of members of this forum can be very rude and offputting, and like I say, if people could just explain why they vote cold, then at least the reader can decide whether or not to take their vote into consideration.

This is a GREAT camera....for the PRICE!

Whilst not an SLR, for ~£100 it's a steal and takes great pics, if you use it properly.

I know, it's not an SLR and doesn't take pictures as good as an SLR, but then again it's not an SLR price! (Show me an SLR at twice the price...)
#32
great camera for the price. Beats the socks off a super compact.
Agreed that in low light it struggles - this is due to the size of the CCD - many times smaller than that of the FZ3/FZ12 or a proper SLR.

I have an S5000 which I really like. The picture quality is very nice in most conditions - as other people have said, don't expect perfect photos in 'auto' mode in all light conditions.

If you need something a bit better than a compact camera (like the 10x lens) but don't want to shell out for an SLR, this is a great price - even more so with the camera case misprice thing. I paid £250 for mine S5000 about 4 years ago.

can anyone help advise me on the best camera for 100 pounds please?

id like it to be able to shoot reasonable quality movies as well as pictures, but id like to know what kinda of camera is best for this kind of thing, as i dont want to get a camcorder.

i dont mind paying 20 pound ontop for a larger memory card so i could increase the size of the movies

is the camera mentioned in the original post (S5700) good for this kind of thing as well as taking pictures?

im a novice user, so id like it to be easy to use for myself and parents etc, although it doesnt have to be idiot proof!! lol

thanks for all you help in advance
