A box-office and Academy Award-winning triumph, this awesome adventure assembles a cast and creative contingent as only a big movie can. Its legacy soared higher when director Richard Donner revisited the film in 2000 and integrated eight minutes of footage. Experience more of the Krypton Council, a glimpse of stars of prior Superman incarnations, more of Jor-El underscoring his son's purpose on Earth and an extended sequence in Lex Luthor's hideout. Christopher Reeve (Superman/Clark Kent). Marlon Brando (Jor-El). Gene Hackman (Luthor) and Margot Kidder (Lois Lane) give indelible performances. Looks like a swell night for flying.

I normally check this website - http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies.php?id=229&show=review
It's normally pretty good at letting you know what the transfer is like and they are honest..

I have the NTSC Bluray version, and it looks stunning. The Superman outfit pops an unbeleivable bright blue and red. You can even see some wires which I wasnt able to see in the DVD version too :whistling:

No it looks better on hd -dvd - FACT co's you know that the conversion was only worth the £2.99 you paid for it and not £9.99

Some may argue it will fly off the shelf at that price.

You can stick glasses on a turd but it's still a turd.

It looks ok on HD DVD but for the most part it just looks like a higher res dvd no better but better than an upscaled dvd.

What's HD DVD?

This is hot.

I have this on HD-DVD and the transfer is good, its definitely worth a tenner.

Try and see if Superman 2 Blu-Ray is there as this one is easily in my top 5 Hidef disks.

It's a format you can buy hundreds of films that in general have higher picture quality than anything else out there on DVD etc for less. The same title on BR are sometimes 10X the price for in essence exact same quality with fewer features until 1.3 network stuff was added. :p

You will shortly be asking what's BLU RAY as it's on it's rrrrrrrr's and will be dead within a year who needs HD when upscaled dvd's nearly look as good from a decent upscaler dvd and when HDTV's are not really that good for anything other than console games. Co's no matter how much you spend on your HDTV when you see a live action hd-dvd or blu-ray movie movie sequence panning left 2 right up n down it looks wrong even on a £5,000 TV's with every trick to reduce judder enabled it still looks rubbish. ;-)

Agreed, blu ray is the future of dvd's. I'll take over from DVD in 2 years so may as well be ahead of the game

Will take far longer than that, sure in 2 years may be in more homes but a good 5 years id say before it starts becoming the norm considering I know plenty of people that still use video recorders and never really use dvds.

Blue-ray has 4% of the DVD market, Sony expected 50% by the end of 2008. That is dire to say the least. Apparently they charge too much for licensing, and it will die as hard storage and downloads take off and are far more convenient, Blu-Ray is no more convenient than DVD.
I wont pay more than a couple of quid extra for HD discs.
