Microsoft has merged the versatility of a tablet with the powerful performance of a laptop to create its Surface Book. Its detachable 13.5” PixelSense touch screen guarantees to dazzle you with true-to-life colours with high contrast and low glare, and works with Surface Pen to give you the fluidity and precision of a ballpoint pen.
With a selection of accessories:
Arc Bluetooth touch mouse
Surface Pen tip kit
Maroo marbled leather sleeve

EDIT: It has the GeForce 940m 1gb on the base and the 520 on the tablet

Yes people will vote cold based on what it is and not the deal, but note the MS site sell this for 1599 without penkit, case or mouse.

Is it the intel or the nvidia dgpu?

It doesn't say but the only non-dGPU version on the Microsoft store is 128GB so I think it has a dGPU.

Scorching hot deal with all those accessories thrown in.

This is the best laptop money can buy, but also is a very capable tablet too.

correct, the only non dGPU is the 128gb version, so I would assume this has the GPU in the keyboard.

So tempted to buy one, but I don't need it!

It does say this however:
Graphics card Information Intel HD 520 Graphics
But, maybe that's referring to the "tablet" and not the dock-keyboard?

The MPN number (SX3-00002) listed in the specification matches the model been sold at £1599 which does have the dgpu.

I asked my buddy at Microsoft and he told me that if the book has the 256GB SSD then it will have the dGPU.

Any way mine arrives tomorrow, will be able to confirm then. If it's true then this deal is a Scorcher.

I phoned customer service and was assured that it does indeed have the nVidia Ge-Force 940M graphics processor.

I've chanced it based on the above comments - if it doesn't have the dgpu - it's going back!

Pick up on Sunday - am excited - thanks op

Just picked mine up, and on the til the assistant showed me it had the dGPU. Haven't opened it, tomorrow.

Stratford westfield has 4 in stock and Bluewater 8. None in Brentcross, they are the only shops I enquired about.

A great deal and yet it never got hot!
#19
If this definitely turns out to be the dgpu one then it's miles better than the super hot surface pro deal.

That's just how this site works sometimes though

I phoned John Lewis yesterday and after a bit of to-ing and fro-ing confirmed it does have a dedicated Nvidia GeForce 940m graphics card.

I have purchased, picking up tomorrow.

Great deal!

I can confirm it's got the dGPU 940
Not the 965 that's on the newest i7s but then it's only available on the i7s

Haven't had a proper play yet, thought i'd check it out for you guys to confirm the card, updates went smoothly and fast but battery has no power so had to reboot to check the graphics card as it wasn't showing up first time (nVidia control panel)

about to start taxi duties, once I've finished ferrying my son around I'll have a proper play and install some apps.

DPD just dropped mine off the package was pretty much falling apart by the time it arrived here.

Can confirm it has a dGPU, here's a picture to confirm along with the nice box damage from DPD's handling.

Got mine from oxford street, they still have 19 in stock, It says in the label that it have the nvidia dGPU

Picked mine up today. Love it. Great spot gavp.
Still getting used to Windows 10 and all that fun! I much prefer Windows 7 but that's just because I know it! I've also been running office 2003 for a while... So switching to office 365 is going to take some getting used to.

I write a lot on it, so having to reinstall journal aa one note is nowhere near as good
#27
Glad you like it Vik1!

I've had teething troubles, my desktop is a windows 10 beast, and my laptop is a mac air. I have a love hate relationship with the mac os, as I've used windows for so long. So bit the bullet and got this.
So far had a blue screen of death
an hour for windows updates this morning
and photoshop text being too small, so had to find a solution to that.

getting there, not sure if its as amazing as I initially thought, as I almost bought the surface pro on my other posted deal (which is an really good deal too, but has -105 of hotness... or rather coldness)

Ah man that's annoying!
I had my share of issues but that's because I finally took the plunge and decided to upgrade from office 2003 to office 365. Two hours it took me to get outlook working! Compared to 1 minute in outlook 2003!

How did you sort your text size? Was it just photoshop or generally in other programs?I found it small too but haven't got around to messing with it.

One thing that really irritates me is the lack of function buttons... My old laptops all had these so i instinctively use them a lot. Having to press an extra button is no big deal but something that I need to get used to.

In terms of virus software - are you relying on defender or using another one?
#29
Bought. Great deal. Pity no Quidco or TCB!

Really irritated with Windows 10. On my previous tablet machines I'd use Windows journal extensively. I'd print other documents into it and you can annotate really well there. Means that teaching can be much more interactive.

One note is nowhere near as good plus they've got rid of the journal printer, so whilst I can use journal with plain files I can't print PowerPoint into it.

If anyone has any tips I'd be grateful. For any other programmes that I can use etc.

Really not liking one note!

Software to install:
NEBO
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/nebo/9nblggh4nlb0

Its free for the next couple of hours and quite good, not sure if it will help you with your note taking tho.

Fix for photoshop and all other software with small fonts:
My photoshop fix only worked for 64bit version, not the 32bit (it installs both by default on CS5).

You need to add a registry entry and then add a manifest file in the same folder as the executable.

There are pretty good instructions here

http://www.danantonielli.com/adobe-app-scaling-on-high-dpi-displays-fix/

Its basically old software as you've found not being compatible with high resolution monitors and its not just photoshop, but a lot of software thats not working on it, with vendors blaming MS and MS blaming vendors.

The registry edit was easy, and the manifest file, just save one of his examples and rename it to the software you are using, and it might work.

Hope that helps, its all I did.

Managed to get mine. Very happy with the Surface Book.

Great deal, thinks it's finished now.
