The b grade ones are £349.
I was tempted by this until I saw, used in retail.

heat for effort
is this a tablet or a laptop? nice price i think
Cold.
SP3's are Good 2-in-1's new, but not worth buying second hand, the batteries get hammered during use. Multiple high current charge/discharges take their toll on the LG batteries. These are designed as sealed up - limited 4 year working life devices.

It's like designing/buying a car that can only be filled up once in its lifetime, but you're buying this second hand with half a tank left. Most of the price when buying new, is paying for the battery longeviity over 4 years.

If you intend to use it tethered at a desk, its fine, but that's not what this was designed for.

Leave it for landfill, where it will likely end up (very soon).

how long does that battery last? I am really serious about getting one!

£500 for this spec of machine is pretty impressive. On what price were those reviews based?
No idea but I wouldn't want a laptop with some of the repeatedly reported issues this one has at any price and good spec or not £500 is still a lot of cash for a sows ear ;)
And these issues are?
Google is your friend ;)

Seeing as you already had the info I thought you might be able to share it. Not that interested personally but thought it might be useful for others.

For £10 more I'd rather pick up one of these

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HP-ENVY-13-d053sa-13-3-Core-i7-6th-Gen-Laptop-256GB-SSD-8GB-RAM-Windows-10-WiFi-/322139092952?hash=item4b00fc77d8:g:ipwAAOSwGYVXDRE7

For several reasons why the £10 would be better off spent this way

- 12 months warranty for no extra cost vs 3months for the deal price or £15 more if you take the extended SVP 6month warranty
- Grade A open box returns with no signs of use vs a display model that as ili has pointed out above get all manner of unspeakable treatment.
- Easy returns NewandUsedLaptops are very good in terms of feedback posted about them on HUKD and how they deal with returns. SVP on the other hand are pretty universally ridiculed about how poor their service is and also the quality of the stuff they churn out as 'refurbished'.

P.S. I'm not even trying to find a better deal for this model so I'm sure there will be one out there on this model. Also OP fails to mention this has a 13.3" Widescreen 3200 x 1800 Resolution screen

I heard display is awful & eager out on these laptops, any owners care to comment? Buying for wife, ages a teacher. so a bit of work on MS word etc, browsing and Netflix!
I have one of these, I thought the screen was quite good but I was coming from a lenovo x201. The screen is nice if you only view it head on but because it isn't IPS it does wash out quickly but not the worst I have used. Not the best buy for netflix for multiple viewers at once. I also bought mine from Svp with no problems.

Expired, it is ex-display

You realise that that's not a reason to expire the deal? Cold is the more apt option.

These HP Laptops are ( Cabinet Display ) Ex Demo units from a major retailer and in immaculate ( A++ Grade ) like brand new condition with no signs of use. The units come in original retail packaging or may be professional reboxed and carry a 3 Months Warranty for Peace of Mind with the option to extend.

Not so sure it's that great of a deal with that sort of after care support. It's perfect, but we won't stand by it.

It's not much more to get a used on with a long warranty and avoid SVP who are renowned for their lack of customer care or service.

I just received mine, I was a bit put off my the bad feedback about svp after I ordered it, but the laptop seems in perfect condition. Not a mark or scratch on it. Loving the screen, even if it's only tft and the led keyboard lighting is cool. I'm hoping this will play diablo 3 ok.

What's the screen going to be like? On the link lyns has put it says it has IPS screen so should be a good screen with good colours and angles, right? Also says WLED though so im confused
No.According to some people who bought HP Envy with FHD screen, HP states it has IPS screen, they tested and found Envy is actually TN panel.
HP was lying.
At this price, it may be ok. But do not expect the screen to be very good. Envy is a model does not come with good FHD screens.
Colour and view angle are not going to be good, same as any other budget laptop.
Having said that, you cannot find good FHD IPS screen laptops at this price range.

No reviews so no idea as to the quality of the IPS FHD screen. Rest of the specs is comparatively pants though.
Even cheaper model with IPS FHD for £230 whilst skimping on everything else. These listed are new not refurbished.http://www.medion.com/gb/shop/budget-laptops-medion-akoya-e4213-md99545-30019561a1.html?wt_cc1=1_2&recommendationId=a43b7130-e868-11e5-8876-448a5b88215a
Anyone want to risk buying one of these and reviewing it?

Some one pointed out this Medion with IPS FHD at £270 last week to me.

I have not heard any reviews about its screen.

If the screen is good, it is a really good deal. £270 for Pentium N3540, IPS FHD, SSD+HDD, 4GB RAM.

The CPU is not powerful, but is certainly enough for day-to-day tasks. It together with the SSD will make the laptop run smooth. If ever feel need upgrade, increase the RAM to 8GB.

It is only a good deal if the screen is good. Because you could get business laptop with i3-4030u and 128GB SSD for £280, but non-FHD.

Does anyone know if the 8700p CPU used in this laptop suffer the same performance issues laptops with the 8800p CPUs do?

Its not that the CPU's have performance issue. The problem is OEM's have limited to output to 15w rather than 35w.
Still a great CPU - It's just not been given the opportunity to flex it's true capabilities.

I knew this was going to be a refurb looking at the spec for the price, great specs other than the screen but tbh 768p is passable for a 15.6 inch screen.
I've bought this exact laptop from svp.co.uk last week. I too was a bit worried about some of the reviews of the company but I can tell you that for me atleast, my concerns were completely unwarranted. Placed my order on Thursday and it arrived by Courier on Monday (free delivery). It allows you to pay via PayPal so you have buyer protection from 180 days of purchase.

As far as the laptop goes I'm very happy for the price I paid. For a refurbished model it arrived well packaged and the laptop itself did not have a mark or scratch on it, I'd go as far as to say it looked brand new.

Initial experience of using the laptop can be summed up as follows
- Good Design / Colour
- Good Keyboard (has separate number pad for spreadsheets etc.)
- Really Quiet
- Excellent Battery Life.
- Boots up fast
- Runs smoothly and quickly. (streamed a HD music video of YouTube with no issues whatsoever)

The negatives are the screen which isn't the best resolution (but is matte so deals with reflection well) and the mouse pad is pretty poor very though I dislike mouse pads in general.

Not had a great amount of time to analyse the HD 520 graphics but there are plenty of YouTube videos displaying it's capability, some even seem to show GTA V running at low settings.

I searched long and hard for an approx £300 laptop with decent specs and this fits the bill nicely. Really couldn't find anything similar for the money even at used/refurb level. Yes the warranty is a risk but judging by the condition mine arrived in, I'm hopeful that this won't be an issue.

are there any other reputable companies that sell this product for this price - svp looking at the reviews seem a bit micey ?
It is a refurb.
The price is in the right range. The price is not ridiculously cheap.
As laptop price this days goes, refurb consumer laptops, i3 is £200, i5 is £250 to £300. This one has 6th gen i5, 8GB RAM, 2TB HDD, so £300 is actually normal.
its not the price i have issue with its the company - they do seem to have a ropey reputation.

I got you. Initially I thought that you think the price is too cheap to be true, which is not the case.

Never bought from them personally, cannot vouch. 3 month warranty is not giving peace of mind.

I suggest find something else as this price is not that hot consider how much brand new business laptops only cost.

Compared to a quad i7, yes. What do you intend to do with it? If it just office stuff, browsing, watching films, torrenting you won't notice sod all difference, apart from probably the crap battery life and heat.
It gives the same performance as a 5 year old 2nd gen Intel Core i5. My current laptop has this processor. It is damn slow for regular tasks.
Don't waste money on this old piece of equipment, unless you have a lot of patience!

Do not know the other specs of your laptop.

Just a guess, have you considered RAM upgrade and change HDD to SSD?

Nowadays, on regular tasks, RAM and HDD are more likely to be the bottle neck rather than A10-8700P.

Or if your system has problems which can lead to slow response too. This can be resolved by a clean install of system, backup your drivers first before you do that.

The CPU is not the problem if you do not use it for intensive purposes.

It is the poor screen, overall poor build quality, and the seller, you need to worry.

The Argos £49.99 one is 8 inch HD (not full HD), quad core and has 1GB RAM - much better - still no GPS though, it's more common on phones than tablets until you get to really posh ones.
I'm glad I posted this because I'm not really up on the spec of these things and I thought the price was okay for setting up as a htpc but looks like I was wrong so saved myself a few quid and loads of aggro!

Good specwise, shame about the OS.
It looks very nice especially red colour and has 4G, that are positives Fullstop. Win RT thank you.
Not a bad price for a 4G tablet but WinRT is dead, making the tablet much less appealing.
It was only developed to force Intel's hand in producing low-power mobile CPUs so there hasn't been a reason to buy WinRT since Bay Trail Atom tablets came out.

Sorry but it's cold from me - this belongs under the BB PlayBooks in the bargain bin now.

By the time you've upped the memory to a reasonable amount and replaced the knackered old battery you're into new laptop territory and while the best built machines are worth buying at this sort of price this doesn't appear to be one of them:

Grade 2 -  Used Good - Showing minor signs of use, the odd mark, scratch or buff to be expected

agree with comments above. Although CPU is strong enough and with extra memory it might be an extra desk top replacement. I find 14" laptops better to use and it is easy to plug a large screen or cheap external HDD if you need more space. I haven't even mentioned a possible ssd upgrade.

That's not too bad for a second hand laptop.

ACER Aspire TC-705 Desktop PC Intel Core i7-4790 12GB RAM 2TB HDD £499.99 @ SVP

Work more efficiently with the Acer Aspire TC-705 Desktop PC, with a powerful quad-core processor and generous 2 TB hard drive. Graphics looks pants - but could prob upgrade easy enough. Dave

£20 Cheaper to build yourself: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/KqgLTW
However this isn't really a practical machine; too expensive just to use as general browsing system and the GPU in this will really struggle to play games these days. You'd be much better off finding something with an i5 + 750Ti

Agreed. Although this is a better build:

Removed the ram configuration 8gb + 4gb..idk why retailers even do this to people.
replaced GPU with R9 270 (better than gtx 750ti - although its your choice) and only costs £442.

Even better with a 120GB SSD for £495

Now THATS a deal.

R7-240 with a 4790. Not sure if they're serious.

Think of these as chromebooks with full microsoft office on them.

Good devices if looked at that way, pity MS sold them with confusing branding that made people expect them to run all normal windows apps like the surface pro.

Otherwise they could have been occupying the space chromebooks have now.
Don't knock these Surface RT's. These come with a pretty much full MS Office Suite built in (Word, Excel, Outlook etc. etc.) - not the 365 subscription versions. Use the Office programs with the MS OneDrive cloud storage facility and you've got a very capable little alternative to a laptop for business on the move. The cheaper touch-cover isn't bad. The type-cover is better, but there's a standard USB port so you can plug in a mouse, keyboard, hard drive etc. there's also a MicroSD slot to add up to 64Gb on top of the standard 32Gb too.
My son was given one of these a couple of years ago for his college work, and I now have one for when my i5 laptop decides to have a go-slow. I love it. Can't greatly find anything to fault it -especially at that price point.
Giggling to myself at the idea of owning an RT tablet. Avoid like the plague.

NB I can see that a lot of people are actually voting this HOT but there are a lot of Microsoft haters out there presumably dating back to when they were not the underdogs that they are nowadays?

IMHO MS is just as "evil" now even though they don't have the same clout - in their parallel universe they still are top dog and behave accordingly...
I am trying Windows devices as a change to Android. I picked up a new Windows 8.1 tablet for £49.99 on an old HUKD and it suits my needs fine and it is being upgraded to Win 10. So not a Windows hater just unsure that a second hand RT tablet is that great a deal for £134.99.
