If I pay this much for a watch I would not want it to be battery operated, I expect some kind of mechanical sophistication. However, I'm sure someone will jump at it.
Sapphire glass, radio time controlled and powered by light so no battery's and 20bar water resistance you will struggle to find a more technologically advanced watch bar a smart one.
Its not powered by light, its powered by a battery.
A solar cell recharges the battery.
just being padantic. as mist devices will need sone sort of "cell" to store the light otherwise if you had a cloudy day they wouldn't work. fact remains you don't need to change the battery which if what most people hate to do.
Do rechargeable batteries last forever then ?
Nothing lasts forever, but I've got a eco-drive watch that's 10+ years old and is still going strong, so I'm pretty happy that this is as good as any mechanical winding system, on an affordable watch.

Yes, they're very good quality watches and i'm a fan of Citizen Eco Drives...... i just like to highlight the usual ignorance that is always spouted on Eco Drive deals.
Such as....
'Powered by light'...... no it isn't, its powered by a rechargeable battery.
'Doesn't need/have a battery'..... yes it does.
'Never needs a battery changing'...... yes it will at some point.
I wouldn't argue with the second two, but do we actually know the eco-drive mechanism isn't powered by the solar cell as well as the battery, and maybe fully from the solar cell, when there's sufficient light to charge (which these days is pretty much the lowest light levels), it would strike as being the most sensible way, to maintain battery life, only draw power when absolutely necessary.

Its powered by the rechargeable battery...... if you remove the battery, or the battery dies, the watch will stop.

I've not long sent mine back and got a refund. Stopped working after 4 months. Not a very nice watch to wear. I found the crown digging in as it was a bit top heavy. The crown does not screw in either and was popping out all the time when it caught my trouser pocket.

Weird and unsettling at the moment...but with a blow torch and some patience you could probably change it to a VW campervan.

It's not the nicest of charms :-(
