Swann CCTV system, seems to be a good price (also TCB/Quidco available). £349.99 at Maplin.

Any other options would be appreciated, othewise I'm buying this one! I only really need one or two cameras but suppose I can sell the remaining ones on eBay.

I paid £209.99 + Vat two weeks ago in Makro for this kit. They have one at the moment with a screen for £279.99+ VAT.

Good bit of kit but Maplin is expensive.

Cold votes but with no comments so now I'm thinking, Shall I/shan't I?

Anyone advise of the disadvantages/a similar/better system please.

£100 dearer on Amazon.

Been looking at these myself and although it looks a good deal I'm going for the N66QL with 2 free additional cameras (total 6 cameras) for 449.99. I have some foscam IP cameras but looking for a larger/better/self managed service where I don't have to hammer my server every day. Had a demo in store of this and looks great, only additional this I may do is get a wide angled lens camera.

I purchased a fantastic system off ebay for around the 150mark - I was in retail security for over 6 years and know what to get and what not to get - it was an 8 camera system but it didn't come with a hard drive but I wanted to fit a 2tb drive anyway so it didn't really bother me - the bigger and better drive you fit the better play back and speed quality is - if you have a poor hard drive fitted you will find on play back that it isn't very smooth and you won't be able to record for as long - I only run 4 of the 8 cameras but playback is amazing it records constant for about 2 months, I also got a cheap 15'' monitor to run off it - I think in total it cost me no more than 200quid and i can also view the cameras off my phone - happy days

650 lines, they are actually not bad and the digital D1 format recording is also pretty good (overall it is actually a pretty good price) I would suggest 700 lines if recording in D1 would be the best option and the 700 range of cameras can be found for around £60 each but as a package deal I don't think you could find a D1 recorder and 4x 650/700 line cameras for under £300?

Wide angle and 700 line cameras x4 are worth the price alone I would say (cant speak for the quality of the cameras mind you)

I would add that Swann customer service are exceptional, having had some issues with dynamic dns they were super helpful and spent plenty of time on the phone without any rushing and solved the problems for me. Not knowing the Sunluxy brand I don't know whether the same cust service will exist?

I wasn't impressed with the Swann systems I was looking at in Maplins at the beginning of the year . I was really after some cameras , they were selling 2 for £99 . Maplin had a demo setup through the window with 4 cameras and the monitor and you couldn't read the number plates of the cars about 20 feet away . I am already running a CMn system bought from them a year or two ago and have a selection of cameras . I eventually bought 4 x 700TVL from a Chinese seller on ebay and they are very good .........and very cheap . There the CMOS type , I know the CCD ones are better but I cannot fault the quality of these especially at night in total darkness at the back of my property . The one above is an 8 channel DVR and it's not bad for the price , you can always buy better cameras from somewhere else .

any link to the cameras that you bought?

The eBay item number for the camera is 310565937967

It is very difficult to know what the cameras are like before you buy them . Some sellers claim all sorts of things which turn out to be false . There are so many to choose from too , different TVL's , different lens's , etc ,etc , you really take a gamble . The ones above that I bought are on 247 and have been no trouble .

I may add : the seller is very reliable and there normally here in about 2 weeks .I've actually got 5 and just ordered another , I order 1 at a time every month .
