You can also use this docking station to connect your old printer or scanner with parrallel port to your notebook/netbook, plus any keyboard or mouse with PS/2 connector (you can often pick up an optical mouse for less than a £1). I also have an abandoned Palm Pilot with serial connector, which I can synchronize again with my notebook through USB :)

shame about the power adaptor

You need a power adapter for the functions USB to parralel, serial, ps2 but not for USB to USB. The normal low amp 5V USB power would not be enough for the extra functions. This would apply to all universal docking stations, which all need a power supply (except dedicated propriator docking stations). If you only want to use this USB to USB, better get a USB only adapter for £1 in Poundland, which doesn't need extra power.

Anything like this, this cheap, with HDMI?
#14

I'm kind of scratching my head over this. What's the point?

If you only want to connect a screen, get the 3m VGA cable also £2.99.

But if you also want to connect a ps2 keyboard, serial or parrallel equipment, get this as well.

You can't connect a screen to it because a screen is a completely different peripheral from keyboards, mice, printers etc - it requires a huge amount of bandwidth and a graphics card (either separate or integrated). Besides which, your laptop still has its own screen when plugged into this so it's not as useless as you might think.

They don't work unless the equipment is USB compatible, all they do is change the pin out as far as I'm aware (tried one on an old ps/2 mouse with no success before).

Yes you're right there - if nothing else, this box can give a new lease of life to ancient PS/2 keyboards and mice!

ordered.

whats with all this talk about screens???.....are people assuming the only use for a docking station is a display output?
You also cant connect a blender to it.
#23
Somebody expired this but you can still order.
#24
Dont get this, why on earth would anyone want this?

Mainly for people (like me) who move their laptop between home and work (or anywhere else!) a lot. I am forever plugging my mouse. keyboard, printer and power in and out. If this takes it down to one USB and the power it works for me.

if you want one with a screen, one of the many usb displaylink chips will do you. But upwards of £60.
(pibpobhere - http://www.displaylink.com/)

As pointed out above, if you have more than one usb peripheral and ethernet connection this is so much better than having to plug in and unplug them all everytime you bring your laptop back. (also much better on your leads/connectors and ports on the lappie). A godsend for us in an office with many 'roadwarriors' not having to reconnect lots of things everytime (especially network connections - you won't believe how often guys damage them, get them stuck in usb ports etc).

my order was cancelled and the price bumped up :( no email or anything
#29
Yeah, it went back up to £12.99 - which still isn't bad if you want a parallel and serial port and only have usb.
