So, which is the better product? Sorry I'm not too clued up on TV's, but 42 inches @ £500 all in is unheard of right:?:

Good price - same resolution as my Viera so it is possible for this to look good. Wouldn't expect it to though at this price though.

This looks the same model that they had in asda and it is plasma and looks pretty ugly in the flesh.

Argos were also clearing out their 42" wharfdale plasmas for the same price if they have any left in stock.

I would like to have a look at the picture quality before considering one of these, although i have a 20 inch swisstec lcd and the picture is quite good..not sure about this one...any reviews any where anyone ? ?

Here is one from avforums http://www.avforums.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-354112.html

I'm guessing the picture quality would match that too. Things have moved on a lot since then.

I'm guessing the picture quality would be pretty good. Only thing nobody has picked up on though is this....

Resolution WXGA 1024 x 768

Think about it ;-)

For those of us who are non-techies - what does WXGA 1024x768 mean? Is this a poor resolution and what should we look for in a HD plasma telly so Xbox360, Sky SD and Freeview looks good on one?

Thanks

1024x768 is 4:3. Seems unusual for a widescreen TV to have that lol. Probably the usual ebuyer 'mistake' lol.

this is standard for an HD plasma capable of showing 720p or 1080i on screen. Some plasmas with this res will take a 1080p input but will internally scale down to fit the screen i.e. (link below)

The resolution does actually work out as widescreen as the pixels on the plasma are a diferent shape to that on a comparable LCD screen (don't quiz me on this, I'm not that techie!)

Link to the newer panasonic 42" model

Not heard great things about the panels in this offer though.

Never heard that before lol. All I know is the pixels on my 42" plasma are completely square:thinking:

So in effect the VGA input on the tv is pretty useless, apart from watching films as everything else would be stretched, egg shaped circles anybody:giggle:

I have to say it, electronics companies yet again ripping people off by not really supplying what the consumer THINKS they're buying:x
