Sorry but this deal is very cold for me, as the customer service at this bank is terrible in my opinion and is a lot of hassle just for the money.

on the face of it it is a good deal.

I tried this earlier in the year, to date they have not paid one direct debit, charged for non payment, put the phone down at the indian call centre and haven't paid me the money as I haven't kept to the agreement, like I haven't tried but you have to move your direct debits over and despite having them reset twice still nothing. they are a complete joke, as a bank they are not fit to look after a kids pocket money, let alone Abbey etc.

not sure if the portugal debt crisis will knock this bank -- terrible service

impossible to get hold of until you miss a payment then they call more often than me mum :w00t:

Just remember the 50k Gov protection scheme. This lot own many banks/building societies now and are only covered by 1 Licence so if you have money in a few and Santander go bust you will not be covered.

Spanish banks are in deep sh*t just like ours were but are more exposed to the Euro and its prob, watch out:cry:

Id agree with the terrible CS comments, its went right downhill on my alliance & leicester account since Santander took it over.....

Also the interest is only on £2500 so anyone going for this should be wary of leaving too much money in the account

HOT from me. I transferred a few months ago and not had 1 problem, all direct debits and standing orders transferred no problem, £50 from Quidco and £100 from Alliance and Leicester, both paid promptly. Try calling their head office number, 0116 201 1000, and asking for customer service, the call then comes out of your allowance rather than calling 08 numbers, which generally aren't and are expensive.

Santander are the RyanAir of banking, Best avoided unless you don't need access to your money.

Switch to first direct and they'll give you £100. If you're not happy after 6 months yhey'll help you move to another bank and give you another £100**. That's £100 if you like them and £200 if you don't.

I like them so I stayed and had to forgo the second £100.

I thought I should leave a comment even though this deal has gone dead:

The spanish economy maybe in trouble, this has had no affect on santander as of yet. Santander is a prudently run company, and based on profits is the third largest bank in the world, and in the top ten most profitable companies in the world.

Santander in the UK whilst belonging to grupo Santander is a separate business entity, and is listed on the LSE. If The spanish bank were to cease trading it would have no effect on the british arm, as they are unable to remove assets, monies or stock from the UK business, to help in the Spanish business.

As far as customer service goes, Santander has increased its rating but is still behind most competitors. that said, it's difficult to find a financial instituion that some people have not had bad experiences with.

Yes but this bank is the industray leader in bad customer service. Most people are reasonable and will understand the odd mishap but when it is consisent coupled with disregard for decency then well...?
