Like a supernova, Roger "Syd" Barrett burned briefly and brightly, leaving an indelible mark upon psychedelic and progressive rock as the founder and original singer, songwriter, and lead guitarist of Pink Floyd. His creative legacy and quintessentially English vocal delivery have since proven remarkably influential. With increasing psychological problems, Barrett withdrew into near-total seclusion and never released any more material, turning away both curious fans and any offers to play music. After battling diabetes for several years, Barrett died peacefully in July of 2006 at the age of 60.
