It must of expired of old age as contrary to belief, whilst virus / virii cause corruption and data loss if you format / fdisk the HDD and clear the partitions you can do a reload. ;-)

I have never had virus cause hardware failiure in 18 years of building computers and believe in conspiracy theory that a lot of the virii are out there because they make you purchase the anti-virus and security software :w00t:

Back to the actual subject of Norton, its not as good as others but better than many others. Bloatware or expensive, take you pick. At the moment I use Kaspersky but solely out of current preference and cheapest deals

Have to say that I don't like Norton one little bit - always comes pre-installed on new pc's and pain to completely delete.
Good price for 3 licenses but I use free utils like AVG Free,Ad-Aware,Spybot S&D:thumbsup:

Actually it's 24.47 as they have knocked off the extra VAT already...got one today. I find it ok but sadly we always have to have this repetitive debate about how rubbish Norton is, then kaspersky is better, didn't work on my machine, get AVG...oh, and someone will post that they can build PC's for a fraction of the price as anything in Aldi or at Dell! :x:-D

Would you intentionally vandalise your machine?Install this & find out.

Nortons used to be good... in the old days of DOS 6.1

Now it's bloated and slow. I use Kaspersky now, after switching from Nortons 1 year ago.

I tried Kaspersky, after reading good reviews, etc. Only time I ever got a virus, after years of using Norton or McAfee. Needless to say, I'm back using McAfee. Basically 'cos it's free with Sky Broadband.....:whistling:

It wasnt a case of hardware failure, more the fact I couldnt get rid of the bloody thing (with up to date and bought security) so ended up rebuilding my PC. It shouldnt have been allowed through in the first place.

Always McAfee for me im afraid....

I've used Norton for years and never had a problem. I started using it after finding out a virus had crept through one of the free packages, which Norton picked up and saved my system. That is a very good price for the 2009 package.

i use kasperky 7 but i find it a real system hog.

I've switched over to comodo which seems alot leaner and quicker on my pc

norton can be a little clumsy when trying to setup a network area on it to monitor but other than that its good, Just some people that dont like things that become popular thats all. If its popular it immediatly becomes cr*p.
#13
No it really is cr*p. There are far better antivirus and firewall packages for free offering infinitely better value.
If I really felt the need to pay for security software it would be Kaspersky.
#14
Totally agree that the virus can be almost impossible to get rid of. Simply? need a boot disk to delete all partitions so the beastie has no where to hide then away you go. The size of the drives though are immense so full formats do take soooo long

T'was the other way round with me....Whilst McAFee was good (according to McAFee?) I didn't believe all of the alerts it kept throwing up. My computer was also grinding to a halt until I switched back to Kaspersky.

On that note Windows will clog up unless you have a decent washer and / or format and reload from time to time

Norton 2009 is bloatware. I actually use Norton 360 less resource hungry but about £50. If i was to buy one now i would go for Kaspersky 2009 internet security from scan.
