Nice - for £2 more you can get a 5 metre one (rrp £49) - Don't have the link, but I bought one that length yesterday from Play for £9.49 (after the RAC 5% discount)

Oh, and 5p Quidco :-D

decent price for a branded cable, but has been proved time and again that buying expensive hdmi cable under a few meters makes no difference whats so ever.

Agreed and the " gold plated " connectors will not make a scrap of difference, they are going in to nickel plated sockets after all.:whistling:

Wheres best place to source a decent but cheap one then?

Look HDMI is a digital connection - it will either work or it won't.

Cheap ones work - they are just as good as the most expensive ones. This is the advantage of digital signals over analogue - noise immunity. Don't watse your money on DIGITAL interconnects.

(analogue interconnects are a whole different barrel of fish that I will steer well clear of here)

I would disagree, it probably is that simple on paper but i have had nothing but trouble with the free one that came with my sky HD, blue screen when I switched it on, blue screen occasionally whilst watching. Thought it was the box at first but tried it through the scart and swopped the hdmi with my xbox one and found it was the cable. The lifetime of the cable surely has a direct link to the quality of the cable, so bought one of these myself and it is a quality built cable, picture looks the same but I don't see me having many problems for years to come with it.

I buy mine from a company call JVHD who make their own cables and offer a lifetime warranty on the cable, I've always received mine next working day. They are all 1.3b compliant. They sell via ebay, just do a search for JVHD.

Their 2M cables start at about £4.20b inc delivery, 3M for £5.60ish, 5m for £7.46. If you want something that looks fancier they have slightly more expensive cables.

HDMI cable prices are a rip off, the mark up on the Synn cable at £30 must have been enourmous!!

That is a faulty cable which could easily happen with a more expensive cable, the issue being discussed is one of picture/sound quality. A non-faulty Sky cable would produce the same picture and sound quality as an £80+ one.

As for longevity, do you frequently unplug the HDMI cable? Do you move your TV (flexing the cable) a lot? If the answer to these is no, then there really isn't any wear and tear on the cable and any cable you use should outlast your other equipment.
