I know this deal was around a week or so ago, but I couldn't unexpire the thread so thought I would repost it.

I phoned T-Mobile free on 0800 9562208 and asked for the best deal on the Hero, monthly cost started at £25 but I asked for a it to be lowered and it was.

Was the phone free??

We're they resistant to the fact you wanted it lowered?

Did you have to say you had seen it cheaper elsewhere?

Is this for new customers too?

Cheers!

Yes,
no,
no,
don't know, probably (I am already a customer but this was a phone for my wife).
No worries.

28x£21/50 = £387 paid for a phone that is at best £360 sim free, but this will be locked, but if you consider the bundled included this looks very good

don't say a word that u found this deal on HOTUKDEALS to T-Mobile CS. It could be banned again...

I was talking to T-mobile the other day as I'm due an upgrade.

The guy told me about 1gb and 3gb internet as I was comparing deals. He was saying that with this type of phone you really need 3g....Do you know which this comes with, or was I just being spun a line as I was comparing deals?
#7
I tried to get this deal last time before it got busted off....

I then took the same phone with t-mob for £25 a month on an 18 month deal for 200 mins, 200 texts and internet.

A bit of cashback took it down to £21.40 a month so not too bad but if you can pay just 20p more for all those extra texts and mins thats excellent.

I can't say how much you will use the data on the phone mate, but I personally think this 3GB stuff is ********.

When I got my phone the bill was coming to £5 per month more than it should of been. Rang them up and they said it was because I had "internet plus" which was an extra fiver. Told them I didn't want it and they tried blagging me saying it was MANDATORY on this phone.

Was ready to send the phone back until they decided to cancel the MANDATORY package.

So I now have 1GB. Apparently they don't charge you or stop you using it if you go over the 1GB, they might just throttle your connection a little.

Realisitically I don't think i'll ever get anywhere near 1GB. Weekdays i'm always in my office so use wireless = much quicked. Evenings i'm mostly at home = wireless, much quicker.

Only time I use data is out and about which is rare and even then its facebook, twitter, gmail or footy scores. 1GB should be plenty.

EDIT

Just checked my bill and in the last three days i've used 0.99 Megabytes

At 1 Mb every three days, 1024 x 3 = 3071 days / 365 = 8.4 years before I use 1GB..... Have I worked that out right? Doesn't seem right?

Obviously if I hammer Google Maps one weekend or start viewing full web pages it could easily shoot that up but that wouldn't be a regular thing and its still not going to massacre 1GB

Where could I find some free apps for the Android system.
I need to see what I can use on this phone before I make a call to buy.

To be honest though that doesn't do it justice.

What sort of apps do you need and I can tell you what there is.

I could list my faves but might not be of interest to you.

Just tried and even with my best haggling could only get down to £26.50 a month after a one day only offer of a 10% off the standard rate. May try another time to get someone a bit more flexible:-D
#13
Just gave this a wee try. I am on the month-to-month sim-only deal for £15 with them and she said the absolute cheapest they could do this deal was £30 a month. I asked if I was spending more per month just now if it would get me a better deal and she replied that it would.

Ah well back to the drawing board but thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the info looks like this deal is as dead as they come.
Phoned up but could not get anywhere near £21.50.
Will watch this to see if anyone else get's it but somehow I don't think they will.

IMHO if you can get a deal as above even for less than £30 then its well worth it for all those minutes and texts.

Without wanting to start a full out war.... this phone is way better than the iPhone and they are WAY more than these sort of prices.

Seriously I don't know how I ever lived without my Hero :D

These are some of them... to see what they do / youtbue videos / reviews etc just google the name and android should work:

Barcode Scanner (scan barcodes in shops then search shopbots for cheapest prices - also for 2d dynamic barcodes for quick link scanning to websites etc)
Co-Pilot
Google Mail
Google Maps
Google Sky Map (using gps and compass)
Monopoly
OS Map (Ordanance Survey mapping - great for mountain biking / walking etc)
Peep (Twitter app but there are loads)
Robo Defense (Excellent addictive game)
Shop Savvy - similar to barcode scanner
Soccer Livescores - footy updates with alerts when your selected matches have goals etc
Tip Calculator (for splitting bills etc)
Wave Secure - locate your phone via web if it is stolen, backup and lock remotely
Wikitude Travel Guide

There are LOADS more... bear in mind i've only had my phone 3 days...

Oh and I love how my contacts sync with Facebook for pictures which show up in phone book, plus birthdays etc.

I could bore you for ages with this stuff :)

I have just flashed a custom rom to mine MoDaCo 2.8 after "rooting" the device. Very easy to do and opens up some options such as Wi-Fi tethering (i.e. makes your phone into a hotspot so your lappy can connect and surf).

Also the above includes Google Voice Search - admittedly more quirky than anything but very accurate and saves typing too much on the phone (even though the typing is very good).

Going back to what I said earlier about being better than iPhone - my mate has an iPhone and SkySports centre on it for football. Problem is you can't multi-task with apps (aside from the original iPhone messages / music etc) Whereas my hero can have football livescores open and updating (and alerting me) while i'm on google maps or any other application.

What else do you need to know? Happy to help.

All I need now is to find a good contract......
You have poss sold me this phone
#24
This is a RETENTION deal, not for a new customer.

They can only do stuff like this when you're planning on leaving them. So really its not a deal, its just a tailored effort to keep a customer.
#25
If this is not for new customers, the title/OP is extremely misleading and should say "Retention deal only, current customers out of contractual period only!"
#26
I've just ordered this phone and its costs me £444 for the contract that includes web for 12 months.

The deal is here -->http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/Brands/HTC/b509/n447/p18610.aspx#tabsAnchor

Contract is with T-Mobile on the 12m Combi WebNWalk package at £29.36pcm + £91.99 for the phone = £444 (about). Oh, plus there was £5 delivery (I think) but its still the cheapest non-retention deal I've found that includes the phone and unlimited web.

BUT: T-Mobile want proof of who I am at this address I've lived at over 20 years with an excellent credit rating and an address I've had a T-Mobile contract at before. So I'm a bit stuck to what is going on. Delivery should be tomorrow but I doubt that now. We'll see, If this deal falls through and some1 has a non-retention deal cheaper (I'm looking at the full price btw that includes web (not too bothered about calls or text) and not relying on cashback) then let me know. Thanks.
#27
I never meant to mislead anyone.

The contract I got it in addition to one that is currently running with T-Mobile so I didn't consider it to be a retention deal as I am not renewing.

Noooooo!!

Thank you, you posting this deal gave me some ammunition to get £5 off my line rental for 7months!! Cheers

Oh, I was accusing you of that. Not sure others was either. I still gave it heat as its good for existing customers but I offered the alternative to new customers was all

Thanks for this, managed to get this deal for £25 a month, free phone, 800min, 500 txt, ultd web, 1 month free insurance and 8GB card. 18 mth contract. Not as good as the original £21.50 deal, but still very very hot.

Had to give it several goes ...original offer was £25 for 6 months and then 12 months at £30, but lucky declined as it was too expensive for a cheap skate like me

Oh, and was a new customer.

Thanks again.

Looks like I will be back on the phone tom.
Any idea who you spoke to so I can try and get through to him/her
#33
Just got:
£23pcm for 18 months, 800 mins, 500 txts, unlimited internet (3Gb), free phone

Offered £25 straight away and then went away to ask her managed to allow an extra £2 discount

Rang up earlier and got totally nowhere (£30 best he could do), so it really does seem to depend who you speak to.

Good luck
P.S. I'm a new customer
#34
You guys are not going to regret getting this phone if you like gadgets!!!

BTW: REMEMBER - if you don't get offered the deal you want - DO NOT MENTION SEEING ABOUT A DEAL ON THE INTERNET!!! Just hang up and call back.
#35
did you manage an 8gig card ?
#36
I'm just about to get this phone as well ......keep thinking about waiting for the next android htc handset (dragon/passion/desire?) but think I'll take the plunge and just get the hero for 12 months

I'm looking at this deal....

£30 per month (12 months) 150 mins + 150 texts + 3gb internet allowance

Its £40 for the handset but you can get £20 back from Quidco

They do a similar 12 month deal where the handset is free ( + £20 cashback + £20 Quidco) and double the minutes for another £5 a month but I think this should do me. Remember that with 3gb allowance you could easily make free ip calls with skype/fring etc

Oh....almost forgot...the company is BuyMobilePhones.Net. Haven't used them before....Can anyone comment?

Hope this info helps someone

Thanks
#37
No, stupidly I forgot about the card until after I'd already agreed £23. It was the best I'd been offered by far so I just took it.

Also, according to a friend these really need a fast memory card (the O/S/ uses it apparently) and not sure what T-Mobile will supply so probably better getting one elsewhere.

To be honest I'm happy enough with what I got.
#38
just got it at £25 a month when earlier i tried twice and couldn't get it lower than £30. lady is calling me back so will try and see if she will put in a free memory card thanks OP!
#39
I just tried again, no joy! £30 a month for the deal:-( May be lucky tomorrow if the call centre staff have that Friday woo hoo feeling;-)
#40
Forgot to say, if anyone wouldn't mind saying they have been referred by me then we get £25 vouchers each.

PM me and i'll give you my name and mobile number to quote.

Cheers guys.
