They've released a free custom ROM, which removes the T-Mobile branding plus it's makes it extremely fast!

Is this unlocked? Also, is it actually an HTC handset branded as a T Mobile phone?

It comes locked, but can easily be unlocked for roughly £13 ($20). However, you can get a cheap Sim Attachment for a couple of quid from ebay / dealextreme which does the job perfectly well.

The Manufacturer is in fact Huawei and the Model number is U8220

More like the i-phone than HTC. Its made by Huawei.
Its locked although you can use Virgin sim as they are partners.
I got this phone for £101 from T mobile & got £15 quidco so an amazing deal even at todays deal its worth every penny. The only bad thing about it is the camera. Its totally knaff.
#8
I bout this phone with the xmas deal. Quidco tracked at £5 but I actuallly received £15 & so did others.
#10
Word of caution on the Quidco here.
I bought this in December and my £15 was declined by T Mobile about a week after purchase. Quidco state once a payment has been declined there's nothing they can do.

I bought the phone early in the day when the deal was on and Quidco still claimed there was £15 cashback.

That said, it's well worth £120 anyhow - just don't bank on the Quidco.

Phone is ace, unlocked it, now on Vodafone and running a custom rom thanks to the Modaco forum.

With t-mob can you transfer the top up to a contract account?
#12

That link was a generally heads up of the deal, with no prices mentioned at all in the OP. Furthermore, HUKD members would benefit more, if this had it's own deal

My brother bought this phone when it was last on offer and the functionality is great. Only problem is he really struggles to connect to Wi-FI and from weeks of extensive trawling of the internet it looks like this is quite a common problem with the phone.

Has anyone else had problems accessing the wi-fi?
Just wanted to point it out to people in case the wifi is a big sell. Music player is great on it and the interface is nice.

Hmm - maybe its just my brothers phone & our router combo...... What router/internet provider are you using out of interest?

Never had a problem with my wi-fi connection either?

Has he got the latest software?
#18
does the box includes a case/pouch for the phone?

can someone please confirm the following:

1. is it Quad band?

2. Does it have a DIGITAL Compass?

3. Does it come with a navigation software?

thanks

I got this before Xmas, for £102 inc £10 credit and £15 quidco, so this is not very hot.

Anyone looking to buy this,
note: you get what you pay for, its not a bad phone for the price, how ever it is very slow and camera is very poor.

I have the hero now, and the difference is huge, the hero is much much much better, more easy to live with.

also dont expect to get the Android 2.1 update for this one.

try and get thye magic, hero, legend which are much beter.

however for the price it is a good phone, with GPS and other stuff.

i could not install copilot on this one (maybe just me)

might get this. t-mobile obviously aren't too good at maths though, check this out, this phone aint 20% off!

Netgear with talk talk but that shouldnt make any difference. Has your brother input the secure code into the phone, asuming you are using a secure network?
#23
i have got this phone, paid about £100 last time was on offer.

great phone, i think its as good as my previous works phone which was an iphone.

the only real problems are its still on android 1.5 (would be nice for the upgrade, i think its coming in a few months to 2.1)

the camera is real dire in lowlight (note it takes good outdoor photos)

I wouldn't buy it anyway, yeah I saw the very deal a few days ago
#26
Great phone for the price as I got mine in the December deal, plus got £15 from quidco. Also when Android 2.1 comes out this will go up a level.

Couple of quick q's, using my mobile so excuse formatting. So this phone has 3g, gps and wifi, Is on payg with no monthly charge, and can be unlocked for 3 network. All for 120? Is that right? Where is the catch other than it being a bit slow/battery life!!! Can i use google maps for street navigation while walking? Where can i get the 3 network specific setup settings if i do unlock it? Thanks.
#28
Quidco tracked immediately, but at £5. I know that things often get sorted at validation, but wish the correct amount was shown straight away.

It's a good phone for £120. People comparing it to the Hero, Legend are way off base as those phones cost cost about three times more!

It is a feature packed phone Batch and you will be able to use Google Maps - watch out for poor gps signals though when in a built up area. You may find the settings on modaco or google it.

Thanks so much for the quick answers. And to the OP for highlighting this specific deal. I'm in. Was going down the scond hand iPhone route, not any more :)

If I can't use three network no big deal I';; port my num, but I am sure that won't be the case!
#36
looks like a cracking deal. Worried that its slow, especially since I already thought the hero was slow!!!

You can flash rom to make it go quicker.... Very nice deal....
#38
I ordered one. Seems like a really good budget phone for someone looking for an Android phone :)
#39
Just by way of interest, those of you that bought this recently, what is the battery life like in the real world?
#40
I would strongly recommend to avoid this phone. I got one befroe Xmas when they were £90 and whilst the operating system is excellent, the battery life is beyond poor. It struggled to last a day without needing topping up. I was told by T-Mobile to turn 3g off and disable "push" email, but doing that turns a "smart" phone into a pretty dumb handset when Blackberrys and Nokia E-Series phones can run for days with both those features enabled.
