Where can an HTC be purchased for £99.99?

Nice find Robot1000.

I have one of these and love it.

Camera really shouldn't be listed as one of the "features" though - unless you can freeze yourself or there's a solid object next to you to stabilise the image!

Apart from that, a truly stonking device. As you say, Modaco forums are a wealth of information.

Cheers,
fish.

Oh, H&R!

Have you updated to the latest 2.1 software, as the camera has somehow become so much better with it?
#11
I updated my Pulse to 2.1 via the T-Mobile Hungary website - improved the phone a lot.

Yes it is

I've got it and can confirm that it's 100% capacitive

You can get an unlock code for around £13 OR use a i-SmartSim from Dealextreme (£3)

I've got the latter and it works great!

Will it be this price in T-Mobile shops or is it just online?

I ask because I need it fairly quickly for a present (for someone who only really wants something with GPS to use a golf app, but at this price it makes a lot of sense).

Hmm, it's listed under "Deal of the week", but then it says "33% off today only". And of course, it's now a new day from when you posted. On the home page it suggests that the PAYG deals end on 30th June - I'll hope that's right and leave it until later today.

people don't realize androids touch screen are terrible on cheap phones, the HTC range are the best out of them all.

Did it need any cutting?

I went for the one with the chip at the corner and it fits 'snugly' without any cutting.
Costs slightly more at $4.25
#23
There is copilot live which is a dedicated sat nav app but this is chargeable available in the market.
#24
It's actually £109.99 as you have to buy a sim :(
#25
anybody seen Ndrive (satnav app cheap) for android
...Iphone uses can get it for about £5
everyone else has to pay through the nose on the android market after the initial 7 day trial !

I've updated the OP

There is £10 cashback available at Quidco or TCB, which will bring it down to £99.99

I got a blackberry a few months ago but hate it. I presume, I can use my t-mobile chip in there which has free text and free internet and just sell off my backberry?
#28
Great phone it finally persuaded me to give up my Nokia E71.
Like some one else said the camera is next to useless but everything else about the phone is very good.

I got mine on a £10 a month contract with 100 mins, unlimited texts and internet. Phone cost £35 including Co Pilot and car kit but got £40 Quidco..

That review actually states it has a resistive touchscreen, unlike the iPhone, so doesn't support multitouch. :?

Yes you can but remember to cancel the Blackberry addon or you'll be paying £5 extra for nothing.

Not all cap screens are multitouch anyway.
#32
Don't do it! Terrible phone! It doesn't quite have the CPU power to handle Android well and it *chews* through battery like you wouldn't believe! I got one when they were £130 back in January and regretted every minute of it

I used to be able to leave my E71 accessing wifi/3G and checking emails for days between charges. The Pulse lasted me 15-20 hours between charges at best. The sheer number of apps on the marketplace designed to try and increase the battery life for this device should server as a warning to anyone looking to move to a Pulse. It basically has to live connected to the wall at all times.

The consensus among the comments at the end of that review suggest that Trusted Reviews got it wrong and that it does have a capacitive screen.

Phone is rubbish, upgraded (!) my HTC Cruise to this due to change in circumstances. Regretted every minute of it. Have gone back to my old HTC phone (from 2 years ago) which with Windows Mobile 6.1 is absolutely fine.#

Doesn't crash, lock up or just freeze temporarily, unlike the Pulse!

Trusted Reviews name itself is somewhat of an irony! Thanks for clearing up their mistake.

Good price for a capacitive touchscreen phone.

i have had a pulse since the beginning of the year, i generally get about 30 hours on one charge, with data services enabled (push email etc) though on holiday (with this disabled) i got around 5 days

ive also had a nokia e61, and with push email enabled (mail for exchange) i also only got about a day out of it!

The phone is cheap, and unfortunately has a low amount of ram (shame this is not the pulse+), but this can be over come with custom firmware.

im currenlty running 2.1 on mine, and for the money its the best phone ive had

I too got a pulse - one of the first way back in December 2009. It was poor with Android 1.5 installed, the December firmware update from T-mobile improved this a little. Touch screen IS capacitive, and there were issues with speed and responsiveness particularly when using a screen protector

T-mobile Hungary have introduced an Android 2.1 update and things are MUCH BETTER, as quick as an Iphone (which I also have). If you go to MoDaCo, and search their forum you will find much better cooked ROMs on there which are lightning fast now. Touchscreen is a dream, and with the ability to load apps to the SD card as well (Class 6 cards preferred) it is a brilliant phone.

The Android Market has literally thousands of free apps, including most that are available on the Iphone.

I have heard there is a new Huawei Android 2.2 phone on the horizon around August, so it looks like T-Mobile are readying themselves for that.

My view - Pulse is a great little phone, and with the MoDaCo community support (Huawei themselves arent bad either being one of the first to release an Android 2.1 update - unlike HTC!!)

at £99 its a gift, it also includes a £20 voucher for accessories, and theres Quidco too.

My wife has a Pulse, and we both think it is great. I'm considering one myself.
As for battery life, it's not good, but I've not heard of any modern phone with a big screen being great. For the price, I'm happy to accept it.

There's another positive review here: http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/10/09/t-mobile-pulse-review/

I was just on the lookout for a new phone and this fits the bill perfectly -- thanks OP!

My wife has one of these. Fantastic phone for the price. Battery lasts one to two days depending on usage but all smartphones are the same. The screen is capacitive but isn't the best on the market.

Don't listen to people that say, things like, terrible phone not as good as my ...(insert 2 year contract at £35+ a month phone of your choice here). if your looking at this phone your looking for value for money and this phone certainly has it.
