Inefficacious, impotent rubbish. Unless you use about half a bag! Decent enough price for convenience though :) Mild warmth added.

Have to agree, total tasteless. A good price reduction yes. A product worth buying at this price....

I'm actually disappointed to hear these reviews - I bought a couple of packs the other week but haven't
used them yet. Oops.

I can't believe what I am reading - Not sure what people expect garlic, ginger and green chillies to taste like!

OK, of course not as good as fresh, but very convenient and the best of the ethnic brands I have tried, whilst being amazingly cheap.
The garlic is VERY good, the ginger and ginger/garlic OK, the green chillies are very much the sort of flavour the fat Kenyan style chillies have - like a hot green (bell) pepper taste: not fiery hot, not Thai birdseye chilli, but a good background heat.

I am never without some of all of them in the freezer.

It's not going to break the bank at 50p is it. Great deal heat from me.

Good to get a heads up on inefficaciousness!! Will prob give them a try at 50p but will keep expectations low!! Discovered last year that freezing garlic works really well. I pick it up when it's on offer, chuck it in the freezer and break off cloves when I need them. It lasts for ever and is easy to chop after a minute or two. I guess most people already know that but I still get excited by it!

Is anything added to these like with the pastes? I find they 'spit' a lot when added to oil

try adding salt that would absorb excess water

Add them when frozen on lower heat

Prefer cofresh brand but a good price

Perfect for marinating chicken before going in a curry

The garlic is worlds better than Cofresh brand which is very dark and oxidised (both colour and taste).
You can even see the dark colour in photographs: http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=265761689

But offers zero in convenience and mess as well as freezer burn.. One of the main benefits of pre-prepared garlic is to avoid having to peel it and handle it with the lingering smell on hands and cutting boards.
There are several ethnic brands which have pre-frozen whole garlic too, which at least removes the need to peel, but unless you are planning to use them whole in that state means the same inconvenience of needing to handle them, although at least those could be put in a food processor or mortar without much handling.

Yes, it is actually worse than the picture. The very worst of the frozen garlic products I have used (other than those in jars preserved in various vinegars or acids)

Preparing garlic takes seconds, and we buy it every week so it's always in the cupboard. Getting the smell off your fingers is easy too. I work 60 hour weeks and have kids, and do most of the cooking at home, and I still don't feel the few minutes a day I would save by using this is worth the sacrifice in terms of food quality. Same goes for ginger.

I am a qualified chef. City and guilds 706/1 and 706/2. And I find the ginger product a good substitute for fresh. But maybe half strength. It's still a good product. The garlic is not as strong. But a good convenience food. The only problem I can find with this product is the number of food snobs commenting on it. Sorry.

dont put them in at very start of cooking, leave towards end and they are as strong as ya like

It's not about being a food snob. For me, there is no convenience in this, especially the garlic. Like I said before, preparing garlic takes me less than a minute. I'm not that desperate for an extra minute in my day that I feel it's worth the loss of quality..That doesn't make me a food snob.

Well good for you food snob. But not everyone can prepare fresh garlic in one minute, and one bulb costs around twenty five pence....While the whole bag of this costs fifty pence. Idiot.
