I'm wondering What's coverage like with videophone in and around London ?

EE has been good but they are not offering any loyalty incentive to stay on.
I have been with Tesco (O2) before they also had very good coverage.
I'm worried that vodaphone will be like useless Three.

problem with three in central london is buildings. their network was on 2100mhz i believe which has problems penetrating buildings. lower frequencies are better for that and other companies had that bandwidth. i could never get a signal in my office or in cafes with three so cancelled it.

when I saw this in the paper I thought it was £12 for the whole year to get 12gb of data and 5000 minutes and texts, similar to the 3/hutchinsons prepaid sim that gave 12gb for £22 or so. just shows how badly worded the advert is
4g giffgaff was useless. 3g life mobile still rocks for me. very tempted.... i have 6gb life (ee) for 13.45.

Mentions 2G and 3G on the details page. Op where did you see 4G?
Honestly... I just presumed. Total mistake on my behalf, I didn't realise any 3G only networks still existed.
My apologies, this isnt that good of a deal after all!

No worries mate.

Anyone know if talkmobile have upgraded to 4g yet? I am tempted by this deal. Nothing better in terms of data, min and price

Talkmobile are getting 4G in November, according to their sales team.
i wouldn't trust that for a second. life mobile say the same thing to some callers. whenever i threatened to cancel three i was told they were upgrading my area. i used to work for a double glazing company as a teenager and was told to offer customers whatever deal was needed as the salesman would just jack up the price first. we had a folded invitation card we would only give to special customers etc etc i am sure others who have worked in sales can give better examples. my worst was bt vision. signed up for bt vision and bt broadband but turned out broadband wasn't fast enough in my area and they refused to cancel it. then cancelled it but still charged me... until I threatened them with ofcom!
I'm sure BT were shaking in their boots!
ha. it did work though!

I will stick with GiffGaff

What's giffgaff's speed like these days? Big reason I left was due to poor data speed.

Well, that and the outages they were having at the time.
Avoid talkmobile.

Been without mobile data since taking up a contract with them and they just keep blaming Vodafone (which is probably fair) or work being done in my area (any part of the UK where the phone has travelled). They won't even refund until the problem is resolved which they don't have any timescale for.

I'm not even angry, just amazed at how poor they are at running a business and how quickly they pass the buck.

Very strange operation.

I'm so tempted, but the reviews of Talkmobile are really bad - possibly even worse than Vodafone!
But it's only a 30 day contract so not a big deal if it doesn't work out.
Every network gets panned on here so it clearly depends where you live.

Nah... it's the reviews of their customer service which put me off. Vodafone have the best coverage around here.
Even with a 30 day contract, I'd worry about Talkmobile destroying my credit rating because of one of their "errors".
Spoke to them about payg and contract accounts, they were good, old reviews may refer to the carphonewarehouse owner not Voda being the owner now. care certainly eaily beats Vodafone care.

I used Talkmobile when they were part of Carphone Warehouse and their customer service was just about ok.
Most recent reviews slate Talkmobile for billing errors which go unresolved for months, which impact your credit file, so this is why I'm apprehensive about trying them.
Ok, some people don't seem to have a problem with them, but if you do, it sounds like you're in a world of pain.

Have been using talk mobile and unless you live in a big city I would avoid signal so poor for data even compared to three
Vodafone 3G tends to be much slower than EE/3.

They use low capacity 3G (900 MHz) and make limited use of DC-HSDPA on 3G (2100 MHz).
Vodafone are also re-farming chunks of their 3G (2100 MHz) from 3G to 4G.
Obviously, the latter is only good if they enable access to their 4G network.

You wot mate? Of course you would. It makes no difference to how much data you use. Just the speed it streams etc.
if it's not 4g then it's not worthwhile as you won't be reaching 15gb with 3g data

Thinking about this one I see there is 3 days left on the current deal with topcashback.
My questions are these has anyone actually got the cash back on this? Kind of a deal breaker, as your signing up for 12months.
Also has anyone taken their number over. Any issues with the process?
Regards

Yes I got cash back from TCB.
Spoke to them and got 4GB. Thanks OP for this deal. got changed from EE.

can't you get someone else to get it then they transfer it to you

Could give it a try I guess. I'll suggest it to my wife! Shouldn't have to go those sort of lengths tho. Been v happy paying just a fiver a month to Virgin for past few yrs for 1gb, 250mins & unltd texts but liked the idea of 2gb data p.m.! Sail close to it on 1gb only sometimes

Idiots turned me down on experian credit check, which showed I have an excellent score of 999 out of 999. I have an exemplary credit score. And they r useless
My area the signal is pretty poor for talkmobile really regret going with them at home its fine but I have wifi at home out and about very poor seem to always have 2g where all other networks would be at least 3g
I was happily on GG for years with good coverage and speed. I suppose everyone's experience is different. I do agree the "community" support idea can be a little challenging lol but they were pretty pioneering with their concept... I guess you must have had a bad experience ;)

It is 3g -Talk mobile have been promising 4g for two years whilst supposedly leaving vodaphone as as carrier to join 02 .
But vodaphone bought them out in 2015 and since then no further news of any date for 4g.
There are other deals almost as good but with 4g. I'll move when my contract is up.

They've got some **** on their site about only releasing 4G once everyone in the country can have it
I'm currently with EE. I mentioned the £10pm Virgin offer (2500 minutes, plus 2500 08 numbers, Unlimited SMS, 2GB of data (3G).

For £9.99pm EE offered as 12 month sim-only upgrade:
Unlimited Minutes
Unlimited SMS
2GB of Data (Superfast double speed 4G)
Use of allowance in Europe

EE PROS:
1. Unlimited Minutes
2. 4G data (double speed)

EE CONS:
1. 12 month contract
2. Need to pay £3pm extra for 300 08 numbers

VIRGIN PROS:
1. 2500 Minutes to 08 numbers
2. 30 day rolling contract
3. Good further discounts negotiable

VIRGIN CONS:
1. Allowance not usable in Europe
2. No 4G data
3. Not unlimited minutes (but plenty)

My main gripe with EE is that I pay £3pm extra for the 300 08 numbers. They were not willing to do anything to offset that so I took my PAC code.

Any suggestions?

I cant see why this is hot as it used to have 3000 min for the same price (with 5000 txt, 4Gb data) which I have at home (for my son)..bought it ast January but has been available until few weeks ago. Had £49 TCB with it which for some reason was paid twice ...so final cost was £22/year (£1.83 /month)
Because you can't get that deal at this moment in time.
A house might only have cost you a couple of thousand quid in the late 70s, that doesn't necessarily mean it's a rip off at £250k now.
A house is a rip off.

thanks went ahead with this offer. how and when do i get cashback?
You need to apply through Quidco or Topcashback at the beginning of the order in order to get cashback. So, if you haven't gone down this route, there is absolutely no chance of getting it now.
i went via topchashback website
In that case, log into your account and you should see if its tracked. It will of course be pending and someone wrote earlier, that some 14 weeks later he is still waiting!!!! I hope it comes to fruition for you.

You have to go through quidco or topcashback to the retailer's website at the begining that's how the purchase gets tracked for the Cash back.

I have been rejected yet again so have given up. My credit rating is perfect, have never ever had any problems in the past. The service has been absolutely abysmal from Talkmobile but reading comments about Voda makes me think they have given me a lucky break. Ordered O2 sim on Sunday night (slightly more monthly payment but works out cheaper if the cashback materialises) and its being delivered today. My brother in law is on O2 and says its OK so will give it a go.

o2 is a great network.

I read a lot of bad comments about their customer service. In particular overcharging when you go over limits. Takes 72 hours to get back from Vodafone. So had a £50 limit cap but someone spent £240!Obviously with 15 gig, chances of going over are close to zero! But life does have a cap of £1 - though I haven't tested it to see what happens if over run!Has their customer service improved since bought out by Vodafone?

Customer service is cr*p as the data calculator is always ahead and if I use data on the day b4 my billing cycle ,it eats up data from the new allowances!.only after many calls does this get rectified. Since approx January the customer service has been like that however prior it was good.
Regarding data speeds I am currently happy with Talkmobile though as I get up to 30 meg speeds so can't complain on that count. Overall one of the more value for money tariffs out there however I am still not sure if it is worth the hassle (!?)

Well it's a 30 day contact, if you experience a problem then you can just up and leave.

I think you will get conflicting views. I did post earlier about their customer service but my and others 'good' is cancelled out by just one overcharging/difficulty in cancelling etc
This is a monthly deal so there is very little commitment here.
cheers

I wouldn't £600 for a phone off a random person or Ebay.
Far too easy for them to report it 'lost' a few months down the line.
With network issued phones, they can be awkward unlocking for a 3rd party.

Feels crazy that this is "hot" when my EE deal which was £31pm for unl/unl/10gb 4G and Europe included and it included an iPhone 6s 64gb which could be sold immediately making the effective cost less than £6pm for similar data to this at 4G speeds etc. etc.
Sometimes don't quite understand the voting! :)
This isn't even remotely similar, it's on EE, it's a 24 month contract not a 30 day one and you're valuing the a network-locked 64GB 6s at over £600?
And it's a retention deal, which means you already need to be on EE...
True. Take all your points. Just surprised at the big difference that's all. Despite mine being cold tens if not hundreds of people have benefited so I am happy :). PS the phone sealed easily goes for £600 even if EE locked so the value comparison is fair I think :)

That's a warning for Vodafone direct customers and is related to problems with Vodafone's new billing platform. Whilst Vodafone does own Talkmobile, it's a distinct operation that uses a completely separate billing platform.
That's what i need!!!!

Stay clear it's a con. Just been rejected due to having a good credit rating and they emailed me offering a PAYG sim instead. 1 minute later I took out the ID contract instead with no problems.
The postcode lookup doesn't work with certain addresses, and you can't override it. Shoddy web dev work ... and really annoying as you lose the cashback if you have to ring them.
Is anyone else having problems signing up? I can't get past stage 2 of the checkout - the continue button does nothing when pressed.
30 day deal, 4Gb for £10 - worth a punt. On voda network, and even though it's not 4G, their 3G coverage is very good for me - regularly get 5 - 7 meg download speeds. And if it's no good for you, you can cancel after 30 days

Why is this cold, it's a great deal and includes tethering. The network has 22mb DL and 4mb ul in my rural town.
I posted the same deal and had 278 heat on it before being removed as a duplicate.
People are missing out on seeing a really good deal because of ridiculous cold hits

I think the main problem is that it uses Vodafone so 15Gb a month is pie in the sky for a lot of people.
I will repost however I posted this at the same time as the £1 life offer so I'm guessing that could be part of the reason.

Tethering free?
Good price, but talktalk are a nightmare if you need to deal with them. Also it's difficult to check how much data/minutes you have left, because the app/website is always 24hrs behind. There is regularly problems where you can't log onto your account, your data usage is several days behind, or they tell you you'll get a text when you near your max allowance, but it's either sent 4 days late or doesn't show up at all.

I can see partially see where you are coming from there. I have had for the last three/four months issues regarding data usage nearing the billing cycle and it seems like Talkmobile have admitted this is unfixable at their end however an easy control is there by downloading an app like my data manager (like I have done) which counts your real time usage and is very accurate and has a changeable billing cycle data in case you change providers etc
I agree the problem should not exist however the cs has always been helpful and they decided to double my tariff because of my concerns and then give me another 512mb free on top of that ,which helps !

Ps for a 30 day this is pretty good and can't see a real alternative for the price as giffgaff is capped speeds after 6gb while three is more expensive for a 30day equivalent.

PPS might be worth mentioning for info on this deal for op that this deal is only on until 22 june through Talkmobile website.

Talk Mobile 1,000 mins and double data to 2gb £7.50pm (12 months) £90.00

This is a bargain similiar to the £10 pound one but not everyone wants 50 hours of calls in a month so this one is less but with roughly half the allowances Medium 12 month SIM Only 1000 minutes

There no worse than anyone else to be honest! What was awful about them?
Talk Mobile has the worst customer service I have ever encountered! wouldn't touch them with a barge pole!
Agree 100% awful company avoid
I was with them, but left. Only 3G an that's so slow it's nearly unusable.
never had an issue with Talk Mobile customer service. me and the missus been with them for years....
Newb you can edit your posts so no need to add posts mentioning mistakes!

Might get this for the wife, she's with giffgaff and gets the same as this but only 500 mins and thats £12 a month! Not good value anymore

This is a pretty good Sim only deal anyway but with the cashback (not guaranteed of course) it brings the monthly price down to £5.62 However the TopCashBack deal expires in one day so you'll have to…

Although this has expired, topcashback are paying £47.25 now - so still a good deal for anyone interested.
WORST NETWORK IN THE WORLD
I work part time for a leading mobile phone retailer alongside studying at uni. This is probably the most unethical company in the world. A customer had chosen to cancel their Talk mobile contract that they had for their child. Talk mobile customer services first of all wouldn't even entertain the thought of the customer leaving and requesting their PAC code so they kept on passing the customer from call centre agent to call centre agent. This happened for well over an hour next when we had finally reached someone in the billing department they had told the customer that the customers child had ran up a bill well in excess of £100. Although the packaged was capped to a £10 limit. This had never happened before however when the customer threatened to leave talk mobile had only made the customer aware of this. Some of this might have been plausible were in not for the fact that the 'billing department' agent offered the customer another deal for his child, if the customer would take the deal then the bill that was well in excess of 100 pounds on a supposed capped package would be wiped clear, otherwise the charges would stand. A 9 year old girl was crying for well over an hour because of talk mobiles dodgy practices. They are the worst and moth unethical company in the world. Trying to retain customers by using financial black mail and conveying threats of ruining customers credit files and sending debt collectors. It's amazing what these people would do for a measly sale. My honest expert opinion is stay away from this company. The deal may sound good and the price maybe tempting however there are better options out there from more reputable companies.
Sadly they are not alone. Mobile companies seem to think it's ok to do what ever they like and OFCOM for the most part let them.
If you can be fussed with claiming cashback (not Quidco), this deal is much better. http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/vodafone-12mth-8gb-unltd-mins-txts-spotify-22-95-mth-161-cash-back-9-50-equiv-mobiles-2454929

Hmm not so sure, it is a much bigger outlay and it's redemption cashbacks which many people don't like.

The second of my three TalkMobile orders has tracked now on TopCashBack, although the second and third orders are still "referred".

Do you add the VAT comment every time you see Talk mobile? oO

Deal from BT mobile is better
Which 1? i'm looking for a good deal on about 4gb of data. I've just got my PAC code from EE so hopefully they'll ring me with a better deal.
BT mobile 2G data not 4G data. http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/bt-mobile-2gb-4g-data-500min-unlimited-potentially-19-60-1-63-a-month-after-cashback-2447125?p=28011222

No it's not. BT Mobile deal definitely has 4G.

I think he means 2GB of data, not 2G (if there is such a thing?!) network speed. I too am tempted with the BT offer, even not being a BT customer it works out at £6.50pm. But as the other guy says, I'd prefer 4GB of data, not 2GB...greedy goat yes.
