If you're with TalkTalk, their Line Rental is normally £15.95 a month.

If you pay 12 months in advance, you get it for the equivalent of £14.35 a month.

HOWEVER - if you DON'T do this, and pay monthly instead, you can get 15% off your bill by paying with your debit or credit card within 24 hours of getting your bill by email.

So if you're reasonably efficient in paying, you can pay £13.56 for your line rental (£15.95 minus 15%), which works out cheaper than paying the whole year up front, as well as getting 15% off your package price and calls too - and if you have a cashback credit card, even better still!

"We're always working to give our customers better value and line rental is no exception"

What a load of **** from TalkTalk !!

VLR Sept 2012 - £114 pa
VLR Sept 2013 - £126 pa ( i.e. +10.5%)
VLR Sept 2014 - £141 pa ( i.e. +12% ) but this increase has been superseded by an even bigger one
new VLR Sept 2014 - £172 pa ( i.e. +37% )

So a total increase of 51% in two years

Over the same two year period CPI has been 4.25%

How can OFCOM allow this to happen?

Worst provider ever, customer service is shocking, they will keep reducing your bill but I would rather pay more for quality service... You get what you pay for....

when it works its brilliant ...but your right ... the customer service is shocking

I disagree - I was expecting the worst when I switched from BT but actually it's been very good. Far, far better than BT ever was for customer service, and that's backed up by recent surveys, too. Most of the people knocking TalkTalk are talktalking out of their a*ses and have no recent knowledge or experience. These are the same people who constantly criticise Aldi and Lidl (blindly) and used to criticise Skoda before they were made to look like idiots. :D

Wow their value line rental has shot up was £126 (£10.50/month) when I took it out in January! I always do speedy payment for the monthly fibre bills so all in all which works out very cheap (even if their customer service is shocking!).

Or take out value line rental, and when it appears on your bill then pay speedy payment - gets you 15% off value line rental price - worked for me.

Doesn't it insist now that you pay it on a card there and then?

My contract with Talk Talk is due for renewal in October I threatened to change Service Provider as I only paid £95 up front line rental with them for last year….they said they would match EE if I paid £130 up front. Works out £10.83 a month "Every penny counts Rodney!"

or pay the value line rental and if you have additional add ons like anytime calls or others, get the 15% of those instead?

But if you do it the way I've specified, you get 15% off everything. Line rental, package, addons, calls...

Also paid £126 in April just before the increase!
Will look for a better deal next year.

I joined TalkTalk a few months ago and opted for the 12 month line rental save which was £141 saving £50 (should be £191) which works out to be £11.75 pcm. They must have changed their prices. The speedy saver option is good though and I always do it.

Not sure why this is hot. Go to carphone wRehouse get phone, line rental, broadband and sky tv entertainment package for the price of line rental. Cannot remember the price but it around £15 but in store only and at every carphone warehouse.

something must be done, line rental alone is more expensive than a mobile deal including the phone, before you pick up the phone.£500 million a month line rental is,£6 billion a year,i doubt they spend half a billion but they say we need this to invest in the future, that would be like tesco opening a £10 million superstore but only if everyone in uk chipped in a bit.its called speculation.

do not do this!!! the op has worked it out wrong!!! it is cheaper to pay upfront

if you pay line rental upfront it works out at 11.75 a month. simple maths. 141 divided by 12! cheaper than what the op has posted

id normally agree ... but the line rental prices have gone up throughout the board it seems in the last 2 months ... the £141 we had doesn't exists going by what's been said
#25
looks like it has jumped up a bit, I took it out in Feb for £126 for a year plus I had around £40 in cash back I believe too. Will definitely be cancelling when my renewal is due as its hardly used.

Its changed again and it meant i would only save around £20 for paying in advance. I wasnt happy gave them a ring, as long as you ask you will get this.

This is what I thought. I paid £141 for 12 months. Unless the price has changed. It's a good heads up for people not aware of the 15% off early speedy payment option.

Im not too sure about that, they were more than willing to negotiate better deals with me. Always make sure to use the weight of cancellation and a comparable deal you have found.

Ive never had a problem with talk talk. Fibre connection=no connection drops.

As I said earlier, I have paid my value line rental, and I also get a further 15% speedy payments discount every month.

speedy payment discount. An email should arrive that tells you your bill is ready. If you click the link within 24 hours you should be able to find a speedy payment discount box that applies the discount. You then pay that amount, your direct debit payment shouldn't be taken for that month.
I've had mixed results, one missing email, no box even though I've checked every 12 hours around my billing date.
I once stupidly paid the bill but forgot to click the discount box first. Phoned them up and was told I would be credited but guess what?
In fairness I'm quite happy with their service, just the odd annoyance.
