We get the drift, you love this company, one deal is enough, don't need to post every item and say '50% OFF!!!!', one of your other previous posts states that the whole website is 50% off.
Hey , don't put TAMAR whole offer here as many single posts !!!

Why replace the face plate? Does it help increse broadband speed?

It seems to improve reliability and using one means you don't need ADSL filter at the phone in the house. I've got one and think it's much better.

I recently bought this Filtered Faceplate, which looks near identical to the product in this deal.

Didn't work for me. Slowed my connection speed as measured here by 20%, so I sent it back for refund.

The iplayer site isn't the best place to check your connection speed..

As the other deal listed is now out of stock, this is the next cheapest, so hot from me - ordered.

In any case that deal is for something different - a complete replacement for an NTE5 socket.

Looks hot enough to me!

We ordered one of these yesterday, arrived today (via Tamar on Amazon at £6.95 delivered.)

Can't recommend it highly enough.

Less than 2 mins to fit ;)

Internet speeds went from close to 4Mbs (average of 3 tests at broadband.co.uk speed test) to 12Mbs. Much better increase than we were expecting. Keep re-doing the test to check, lowest it has been now is 12.59Mbs, not bad when our previous best was 4.29Mbs

We also had problem with crackling on the phone line which has disappeared.

I'm sure the increase in speed is relative to the type of box/filter/etc you have already and not everyone will get same level of increase we did, but I'd have been happy with even a small increase, and it looks much better not having a adsl filter trailing out of the socket.

When mine arrived, I thought I couldn't use it because it didn't seem to fit. I now realise I couldn't get it to fit because I was trying to get it to fit without the top bit of the NTE-5 on. I now know that it just replaces the removable bottom bit of the NTE-5.

As I broke the faceplace during this, I need another one. It turns out that Tamar are selling these faceplates on Amazon for £5.95 delivered.

Their Amazon shop is now down to £4.49 delivered!

Thanks Majnu for your reply, I will look into the other forum you mentioned.

You mentioned this is not a master socket, I will try and see if there is another one in the house! I live in Milton Keynes and the house is connected to BTs old cable network which is now run by Virgin. I wondering if the phone socket looks odd possibly because the telephone is run off a cable network? Could this be correct?

Hi,

Can anyone advise if this is an old socket, as in one of the ones I'm not really meant to touch? As there appears to be no BT socket on the inside.

Also why does it have two telephone sockets?

The socket is in the livingroom, there is another socket in one of the bedrooms upstairs. The one upstairs is just an extension.

I'm Lookiing to see if I can increase my internet speed which is currently only 2mb.

There are lots of wires, which ones should I remove?

If I need one of the new sockets do I install it or should I ask BT?

Thanks for any help.

If you can join AVForums UK and post your question in the networking and NAS section then the members there can advise you better.

Locate the main drop wire which comes from the outside of your house and enters your home. That is the BT wire and normally it has a black outer plastic coat. Does that drop wire enter into that socket which you have shown? Do you have more than one Drop wire entering your home? To be honest it looks like an extension socket.

EDIT

Yup it is not a Master Socket it is a Secondary Socket LJU5 type socket as I assumed because of the lack of filters on the circuit. You can identify your socket from here:-
http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/btsockets.htm

But do join the forums as there are many more technical people who can advise better and accuratley.

I installed mine myself with a bit of help from forum members. It was not difficult took 10 mins to install a new NTE5 socket, face plate filter and wire the drop wire and extensions. WHy pay BT save yourself money. As you can see in my faceplate the main drop wire comes in from the telephone poll and has been painted over, but they are all black, i've never seen BT install a white line before.
