SAme lens as listed from Jessops but it is cheaper therefore a better deal, seemed from the comments in the listing that it was only fair to Bristol cameras that it was listed

Compact telephoto zoom lens which is only suitable for digital SLR cameras with APS-C sized sensors. 35mm equivalent focal length of 85-310mm. As this lens doesn't feature a built in autofocus motor the Nikon fitting version is not compatible with the Nikon D40, D40x and D60 D-SLR cameras. Ideal companion to your digital SLR cameras standard 18-55 zoom lens. 95cm close focus across the entire zoom range. 52mm filter thread.

Canon and Sony fitiing available at £30 extra if it helps

Exactlt what I bought mine for, leave your expensive stuff at home now that it all gets stuffed into your flight bag. Reviews are pretty good so has to be worth this sort of cash....:)
#3
Will this work the same as my 18-135 lens that came with my d80?
cheers :)
#4
Not exactly the same as the Jessops post... this does not have internal focus AF as the other... which means it is incompatible with Nikon cameras such as the D40 D40x which have no internal focus motor in the camera...
Should work with the D80 tho.

Sorry mate but if you believe this why did you answer a question on the Jessops post like this....

softpurple: .....Both lenses are identical just different shops.
You:....Yes indeed.

They look identical in every way so why are they now different?

Huh?...... Me... just checked this was balltheheed said that... they call me alvish

The Jessops 1 is:
Tamron 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di II LD Macro (Nikon AF) - Instore - £37.16 @ Jessops
Note: Lens Fitting - Nikon AF... it says on Jessops website (AF means autofocus)

The Bristol Cameras says:

As this lens doesn't feature a built in autofocus motor the Nikon fitting version is not compatible with the Nikon D40, D40x and D60 D-SLR cameras.

I believe you owe me an apology :-D Makes no difference if you buy for any other camera though so still added heat...

Sorry mate it was the halloween avatar that did it! I am easiliy confused....;-)

Just one other thing... are you 100% sure about these two lenses being different because the specs doc that is linked to on the Bristol site clearly says AF55-200, it is the Tamron specs pdf. I checked on the Tamron site and I can find only one lens matching the description...

Bit of a billy bargain - I would have bought the one at Jessops, but 31.50 delivered is even better.
As far as I'm aware the 2 lenses are exactly the same (except the price of course)

Same lens. Neither has built-in motor so only compatible with more "advanced" Nikon and D50 (ie D50, D80, D90, D200, D300, D2, D3).

Very cheap. Bought one myself for the macro.

Hiya, yes it will be perfectly okay with a D80...

Just an update that my lens arrived today. Very good of Bristol Cameras to get it here before Christmas.

For anyone that had doubts it IS the same lens as the one on the Jessops site

Got mine today as well,,, I am still baffled why the Jessops one got the votes

I guess because of the muppets telling them it was an inferior lens but there you go... :-D

These are Perfectly compatible with all Nikon mount cameras (ASP-C sensor size) I really wish people would stop saying that, it just will not Auto focus, but otherwise it works and meters perfectly on a D40/D40x etc

The only Tamrons that will auto focus on a D40 etc are the HSM models which you won't find anywhere for anything like £30.
#15
sincere apologies - i accidentally spammed this due to an erraneous click... - can I undo it???!!!

This is a great deal!
#16
I have a D40, is this lens still worth a punt at this price?

Surely having a non auto focus lens will just force me to learn how to use the camera :-D
#17
Will the Autofocus function work with a D50?

Not at all as it's a Nikon Fit - you need to find a Canon fit.

I bought this mainly to take on holiday, it removes the risk of damaging/losing my more expensive lenses. The quality claimed is more than good enough for holiday snaps.... It also gives a good lens to sell with the camera when upgrade time comes along......

absolutely, I find I am turning auto focus off more and more anyway. I take pictures at bike racing circuits and the auto focus struggles at times so I set the manual focus st the point I will take the shot and I have better results for it. Auto focus come in to own in low light conditions when it is difficult to see when you are focused.... but at this price? Go for it!

Copied thread?? This is a seperate thread listing an item that is around 20% cheaper than the other, if this is not worth listing then you tell me what is? If you are saying that the same item should not be listed even though its cheaper then HUKD had better close down because it makes up a large percentage of what is listed .... chek all the consol listings, the game listings, the DVD listings ...... We endevour here to find the best deals and share them, if I can do it I will.
Anytime you find a good deal please share it with us....

hey chillout, I'm just answering your question of why the other one got more 'heat'.

I am tempting in getting this lense with the D80.

Lovely camera, quality is superb, I am just going to upgrade to a D90 but I will stick with Nikon now. Strange because during my film days I only had a couple of Canons and one Nikon.. now just Nikons.

Mine came on Xmas eve & i`m very pleasantly surprised. Here`s a shot I took yesterday, hope it gives you an idea of the performance of it. It was fitted to a D200

Looks good, what focal length were you using, and just check the corners. Cheaper lenses tend to lose clarity in the corners first but from the example shown it looks pretty good...

This was at 200mm f5.6 according to the metadata

Santa been really kind and bought me D90 with the kit 18-105 lens.

Excuse stupid question but would this be worth getting as £30 seems a steal?

Lucky beggar! :-D
You cannot go wrong with an extra lens at this price, it will give you an extra long lens at very little cost. check out the pics the other guy posted.
You will not be dissapointed...
