Tannoy are to speakers what Hoover are to vacuum cleaners, so it's no surprise to find the Tannoy Mercury F3 speakers perform so well.

Following on from the award-winning F1 speakers, the F3's offer a much larger, floorstanding cabinet for grander scale and enhanced dynamics. Big Tannoy speakers have always been renowned for effortless dynamic scale and a broad spread of sound and that's exactly what you'll get from the F3s. The front-mounted bass reflex design also helps make these Tannoy speakers efficient and easy to drive.

Although powerful and punchy sounding, the Mercury F3's are also refined. A soft dome tweeter gives a smooth treble response without missing out on the detail.

As you'd expect from this leading hi-fi brand, the F3's are solidly built. A thick, MDF front panel and solidly constructed cabinet ensure the F3s remain rattle free, even at high levels. The cabinet rigidity also plays its part in helping these big speakers sound so taut and crisp.

This is a great price for a half decent set of floor standers.

Finished in an Apple Wood vinyl wrap, the F3s disguise their bulk well and fit in with a wide range of domestic settings. For an ideal blend of punch and refinement, the Tannoy F3 Mercurys are hard to beat at this price.

Does that mean their products are still based on out-dated technology?

People on use the word Tannoy for paging speakers, not domestic hi-fi.

I have the Tannoy F4 Custom's, great speakers, but just replaced with B&W 603's. The F4's are in mint condition with boxes would want £150 for them I will get them in the for sale section on here I think!

But you can see where they're coming from. I've heard "over the tannoy" quite a lot.

I think more people buy receivers these days rather than dedicated stereo amps due to lack of space, not everyone can have or afford to have two rigs in there homes.

And why are receivers no good for anything? My SACD/PS3/360/Blu/HD DVD happen to disagree with you there, and in pure direct mode my Marantz receiver does just fine to my ears for playback of regular two channel audio.

To call receivers "no good for anything" is a pretty brainless comment in my book, whilst you may be classed as a "stereophile" can you not at least be open to the idea that people also want home cinema equipment? Would you prefer it if receivers were not able to operate in stereo?!

Probably because they wouldn't get any heat unless they were £10 and from Tesco. I could've posted some cracking deals in Jan (partook of one myself) but I didn't because they'd have been ripped apart on here "but my £10 CD/Radio from Asda does the same job", "My £50 all-in-one home cinema does that, what do I need this for", etc.

What we need is a 'dont like' button, and then when people come out with that sort of rubbish we can mark them for it (_;)

I was lucky enough to get a pair of F4 customs for £150 a few years ago (originaly RRP was around £400), still not upgraded them as they're great, hot.
#29
Bought the F4 Customs from Richers a few years back when they had them on a VIP deal for £119... RIDICULOUSLY good for the money. Best speakers I've ever owned... would buy these in a shot if I had the space (and need!) for them!

I'd get some Sony speakers instead, best to stick with the big brands.

I think it most likely is following on the tradition from "Loughborough Guy" posting on an Onkyo thead that once about "sticking to big brands" as he naively had not heard of Onkyo, if you were not in the thread at the time then you would not be aware that joke has pretty much been on any AV deal since.

Probably idea that new VIP signups can print a £10 off a £100+ spend voucher...
(one per person, so if buying two £100+ items, take a VIP'd friend/familymember along too)

You'll need an amplifier, some phono leads and some speaker cable. If you are planning to go suround sound in the future, then get a multichannel amp (a receiver) and then in the future you can add the extra speakers.

It's probably safe to assume your television has phono outputs (red and white circular sockets) on it, but check first before investing in speakers and an amp. If the telly doesn't have the phono out sockets, any dvd / blu-ray player / set top box that you may have will have them.
