Good Speakers....Discount voucher will not work on these
* The Mercury F Custom series loudspeakers utilise materials and components carefully selected to optimise the system performance. Dense wood material used for the cabinet construction, including a substantial MDF front baffle, provides the essential cabinet rigidity required of a good loudspeaker design. The bass and treble units are solidly built providing exceptional acoustic performance and long-term reliability.
* The Mercury F Custom Series upgrade boasts some excellent sonic enhancements:
* Crossover - the crossover components have been upgraded, including a high quality polypropylene capacitor used in the Tweeter
feed, and the circuit topology revised to deliver greater high frequency detail, better imaging and more control at the bottom end.
* Tannoy DMT (Differential Material Technology) - the interface between drive unit and the cabinet structure is crucial and this area is given special attention in the F1 and F4 Custom models. Bracing materials of different acoustic properties are used to dampen the driver to the internal bracing and then to the enclosure body itself; resulting in an exceptionally well damped structure that minimises the effect of unwanted resonances.
* Wiring the internal wiring has been replaced with high purity Van den Hul silver plated cable for lower energy loss and greater transparency.
* Termination panel the termination panel has been upgraded with high quality gold plated brass terminals to optimise the signal transfer with minimum information loss.
* The bass performance is rich and powerful while the mid and high frequency presentation is accurate, clear and dynamic. This natural sounding acoustic balance allows Mercury to reveal all the scale and impact of original soundtracks, this as well as delivering the subtle nuances of complex audio recordings. One listen and you'll know precisely what we're talking about.

Fab deal - heat applied :-D

Tannoy F1 Custom Book Shelf Speaker

The all new Tannoy Fi Custom Speaker have won the What Hi-Fi 5 star award, and deserve the recognition.

The speakers can be used for both Home Cinema and Hi-Fi, and they are full magnetically shielded to prevent any interference if placed close to your TV.

The F1 provides outstanding bass, with crisp top end and outstanding imaging, despite its small size.

These speakers are recommended by many publications and get our full recommendation.

Materials and components have been carefully selected to maximise the system performance and offer real acoustic benefits. Solid wood material for the cabinet construction, including a substantial 19mm MDF front baffle, provide the essential cabinet rigidity required of a good loudspeaker design. Nice speakers! 300mm H x 170mm W x 220mm D for anyone who needs to know the size. Bit too big for my needs :(

Hot. Very well regarded speakers. An excellent cheap upgrade if someone has an all in one mini hifi system and wants to improve the sound.

Seriously, Eltax sound terrible compared to Tannoy. This would be a great upgrade.

Honkytonkin, the Eltax may look similar, but like Alan79 says, they will sound naff compared to these!

Nice price but I'm after black speakers to go with my black TV and 5.1 surround. Shame Empire Direct don't do the dark oak ones as well.

Damn good speakers for the cash!
I bought a pair in dark oak last week, sound qualtiy leaves my cheap yamaha in the shade.
bought a pair in apple for rear god I hate this site soo addictive :)

If you were starting out fresh and needed speakers for a 7.1 setup, what would you use these speakers for? Front? Front and rear? Front, side and rear?

I've got 5.1 and these would be used at front L + R. Here's roughly what it would look like for 7.1 THX:

FL____C____FR / Sub

LS____(you)____RS

____RL RR____

But for stereo and music listening, I would make the amp use just FL + FR (and possibly the sub).

Would these be better than the speakers you get with the Onkyo CS 325 mini system?
#16
looks a cracking deal, anyone know what connections this uses?

thanks
