Tannoy. The very name itself is synonymous with loudspeakers!

The SFX5.1 home cinema speaker system is a development of the popular EFX5.1, with a few subtle tweaks to improve the performance still further. As before, the SFX incorporates Tannoy's WideBand technology. This gives the SFX5.1 the ability to reach frequencies as high as 78kHz! The benefit to the sound quality is incredible levels of detail and a natural, uncompressed sound that simply soars from the speakers.

As with the EFX5.1, the new SFX5.1 features a larger centre speaker, that capitalises on its larger volume to create clear, undistorted dialogue.

Completing the package is an active subwoofer with an integrated 100 watt amplifier. The downward firing 200mm cone gives a deep and powerful bass all the way down to 45Hz - giving the Tannoy SFX5.1 speaker package a tremendous frequency response. A re-profiled foot design gives the SFX5.1 a better contact with the floor and a tighter, more responsive bass as a result.

Although already a good-looking package, Tannoy have tidied up the styling and introduced revised grills and a smart silver finish.

Just like its predecessor, for a speaker package with real dynamic scale, the Tannoy SFX5.1 is unbeatable at this price!

Ive got a Tannoy speaker system purchased from Richer Sounds about three years ago.

The speakers i have look very similar to the ones in this system although my 5 speakers are all identical, whereas with this deal, the centre speaker appears to be larger than the other 4.

Anyway...my system performs very well indeed...well chuffed with them and I do really pump some serious dolby digital sound through them from time to time.

Thanks, almost bought these at £180 last week.

I did try that after I posted the deal but I am unable to do it, I think only mods can do that.

"It's like when people say "Tannoy" they mean Public address system. Tannoy is a just a brand name."

So, these or the Jamo A102 HCS5s?

Richer Sounds recommended these to me on Twitter, but I'm not sure about silver. Might go and have a dabble tomorrow.

Has anyone got links to reviews? I can't find any.

Sounds like you have the Tannoy FX (all speakers the same), these are SFX, centre sub is better on these. I have had a set of SFX's for about 2 years now, sound awesome with a decent amp.

Yes thats it!
Tannoy FX, and they have served me well....anyway..is the difference between my set and the set on this thread just the centre speaker?
Or, are the speakers upgraded in some way?

Got what I consider to be a decent amp..and its not an onkyo....not yet it isnt anyway!
Might consider going down that route soon though

you're not allowed to have music playing on a bus mate

Weight of speakers, unboxed, Front/Centre/Rear in KG 0.75/1.5/0.75
Weight Of Subwoofer Weight of subwoofer, unboxed, in KG. 9

Fairly heavy but probably manageable
#22
does this have digital optical?
doesnt say on site
#23
I've got the black version - love them!!

Come with wall brackets & mount scew - but no scews or rawl plugs to attach to wall.

Not the heavist box to carry home, but it is one large box to contend with.

You would need an amp for these, you can't just plug optical in them....

the speakers look like the roth pc speakers, and apparently tannoy helped roth, or something along those lines. bought a set of the roth ones for an ex and they were really good, so would expect these to also be good

Yamaha's RX range are excellent (I'll be running these with an RX 667)

The guys at RS will be able to advise better than me, as you'll be able to give them an idea about what you'll be using it for. Onkyos and Denons are very good though
#30
I have these in 6.1 & 7.1 (yes two sets) very good for the money but gotta say, my Mission bookshelves (M71 & M72's) blow them away, good for small end speakers but still, not a touch on the real things (ie bookshelves) I only changed due to the nag (the wife lol) these do look better but I still regret the change

Ive paired mine with Marantz SR7300 & an Onkyo 606, Onkyo kicks the Marantz out of the water, so I would say look towards Onkyo ;)

Have got these, and previous speakers were the basic Yamaha kit available 3-4 years ago. Was a significant upgrade. Obviously won't compare to higher end speaker sets, but whenever we have people round for a film if anything they want the sound turned down!

yes - large sqaure box, awkward but not impossible !
have owned these for 2 years, very good speaker set up - sub is the most impressive part.

Richard sounds do some great amps, onyko has one awards for many years on the trot, Im running an old Sony DB960 and my brother has an Onyko 696 .... and they rock for both of us !
They look good, modern and not too intrusive. the black looks better in fairness.

bulky but not that heavy. I have the 7.1 system of these exact ones, and its a fantastic deal!

Anyone taking advantage of VIP or DotD stuff be wary. For the Sony AV receiver 610 VIP deal they charged me full price and I had to make a second journey to get the discount refunded (they did not do it over the phone as 'they are not insured'). Second time for the Tannoy floorstanders when I showed up at around 6:40, the manager tried to put me off by showing me the price on website has reverted to full price so no deal of the day applies! I pushed and he finally backed off, but not the best attitude I've seen towards a customer ... Names and branch names are available upon request for RS user in HUKD.
#38
I've got these in Black, superb for £250 I paid, let alone £120!

Would these speakers work with a PC and an Xbox 360? What else would I need to get these working with them? I have the old version Xbox without HDMI but I think it has optical. Thanks for any replies.

You'll need an amp, these are just speakers and have no inputs.
