Tannoy TFX 5.1 builds on the success of the previous multi award-winning SFX 5.1 system, and further improves the design to deliver a thrilling roller-coaster ride of movie effects from the latest uncompressed surround sound audio formats.

With flat panel TVs struggling with sound reproduction due to their rear-facing drivers, Tannoy TFX 5.1 powers through Dolby True HD and DTS HD-Master Audio soundtracks with ease and makes dialogue crystal clear.

The stylish TFX 5.1 system components are fully colour matched in either a black or white high gloss finish.

The four satellites are supplied with dedicated wall brackets and the pack contains enough speaker cable to set up the system in all but the very largest room.

Optional matching floor stands are available for the satellites should wall mounting not be practical.
The extremely compact dimensions of TFX subwoofer make installation both flexible and discreet.

The subwoofer offers twin line level and speaker level input options and an automatic power on/off function is provided to save energy.

I have the SFX 5.1, love them, is there any noticeable difference between the SFX and TFX?

Tannoy TFXreview

TFX is the evolution of Tannoy’s SFX system, its best-selling budget speaker range ever. This updated version adds new, improved drivers, restyled enclosures and a revised subwoofer, all of which are designed to handle the rigours of today’s Blu-ray surround sound formats.

Looks like a great price in comparison to the SFX which IIRC are still retailing at £179.99, to be honest the enclosure design of the TFX outweighs that of the SFX alone to warrant the extra £20, Heat added from me.

I have the sub which cost me £100 alone. Impressed with it so far :)

I also have the sfx version. Excellent speakers.

Would jump at these, but doubt the upgrade would be worth it. I doubt you will find better in this price range

Yes...also interested in a VS with those...

I have owned this set for just over two years now and it's brilliant. I actually bought it along with the Yamaha RX-V673 amp from Peter Tyson.

I also considered the Boston Acoustics set but after seeking advice from Peter Tyson, they said that that the TFX was the better option. I believe the SFX is also a good set but it wasn't an available option for me at the time of purchase.

I watched Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark for the first time in 5.1 surround sound yesterday and it was incredible! It's one of the best movies with HD sound that I have heard on this system.

I have this system. its brilliant for the price.

Highly tempting!

Might get Richer Sounds to price match, as they're currently selling this set for £219.95

Edit: Apologies - The cabling comes as standard with this set, so Richer Sounds do of course provide it too.

I have this set as well, really good for the price.

iirc I paid a little less in-store at Richer Sounds for a open-box (though immaculate) version

I've been using these for about a year now and would definitely recommend them. I remember going from using my TV speakers to these and they really brought out another dimension to watching films.

Hey! There's a glowing impression on here from a site that were given the world's first review. What more do you want as proof of its excellence?!

Scratch that...I got this mixed up with another deal that had a receiver as well as the speakers. !!

I've been using these for over a year now along with a pioneer vsx-827k receiver. I had previously used a 1000w Sony one box cinema system. I had contemplated on buying the SFX 5.1 speakers but the style of the TFX speakers along with the glowing reviews convinced me and I have not been disappointed. Awestruck perhaps is a better description. They will sound better (like all speakers) after being run in for several hours.

If you're thinking about these as an entry into home cinema separates then go for it without hesitation. The speakers are around the size of a large mug and very reassuringly heavy. Stunning gloss finish and sleek curves. Just awesome. Subwoofer is plenty punchy to.

My Pioneer is a 7.1 system so I bought the Tannoy mercury V4 floorstanders and VC center speakers and still have the TFX as my rears and sides. I'm really really happy. I paid £350 for my TFX so for £199 you should go to the police and turn yourselves in for theft cos its a steal at that price !!

I think its debatable whether they're £50 better than the SFX, because they're pretty much the same product just quite a lot classier looking (in my opinion).

I think they're definitely £100 better than the pioneers though. Much better build quality and clearer sound (I think the pioneer speakers are just single drivers with no separate tweeters to handle the treble).

I bought an Onkyo system with amp and 5.1 speakers about 3 years ago. I never really found the 'perfect' sound. Do you think these are noticeably different to the Onkyo speakers?

If the Satellite Speakers on your Onkyo has only a single full-range driver & no tweeter, you will not get very good sound separation. The TANNOY TFX satellite has a mid-range driver with a titanium dome tweeter, this would give you better sound separation - able to handle high notes better, giving you a noticeable difference in sound quality.

From Richer Sounds:

Speaker/interconnect cables included with the package. Please note that in most cases, these are basic cables only and would often benefit by being upgraded. Speaker Cable 25m

well still not 25m+3m (_;)

From what I've read it seems the cable comes as part of the package, so it should be the same length/quality no matter where its's bought from. The included cable is even mentioned on the Tannoy website, so any advertised differences are probably due to mistakes on individual retailer websites.
