The interesting bit is at Sainsbury's you can mix 6 bottles and get another 25% off on top of discounted price making this £12 -> £9 for a whole 1L (equivalent to £6.75 per 75cl so this is cheap as normally at £12 full price everywhere).
.
Sainsburys single bottle discount is the 1 litre bottle which is not as cheap by volume as the Asda rollback offer of £8 for 75cl (reduced from about £11).
.
But if you want a single 0.75cl bottle, £8, then Asda rollback deal offer better and link is here:-
https://groceries.asda.com/product/port/taylors-first-estate-reserve-port/43102
(Not sure if Tesco has this too on offer at £8.)
.
And this is far better value than the M&S Special Reserve 0.5L , even when discounted at 50% off from that ridiculous high price, which is also the same ruby made by Taylor's if you don't want the M&S decanter glass bottle.

Taste notes: This Taylor's First Estate, a blend of young reserve ports, has all that youthful exuberance.
Ripe dark berry fruits, cassis, eucalyptus, cooked mixed fruit and warming spice - sweetness, freshness and savoury persistence.
An excellent entry-level port. (As calculated above at £6.75 per 75cl when buying 6 bottles of any wine from Sainsburys.)
A dessert in its own right, match with chocolate and cherry torte - or dark chocolate.

Does the till at Sainsburys see Port as being a 'spirit' and thus excluded from their money off vouchers or can I get a £3 off my purchase too?

I bought 6 bottles of port, triggered 25% off, port is a fortified wine, and I used a £2 off £20 spend Sainsburys voucher as well.
.
But different voucher has its different terms but , spirit, liqueur, wine, beer are classed differently, see here for example http://help.sainsburys.co.uk/help/ordering/evoucher-qual-spend-exclusions

Thanks for that Splender, using the rules as explained in the link it seems the voucher shouldn't work, though as you point out, it worked for you.

Worth a try as always, hard to read all those small print on the back of small vouchers every time.
.
But I just did for you on my other £2 off £20 spend voucher, "Qualify spend excludes spirits and liquers, fuel, first stage baby milk products, National Lottery, tobacco, gift vouchers...". I know wine/fortified wine is not spirits and liquers for sure under centuries of liquor laws and commercial language. That's why the scan accepted it no question.
