This is a great price for a really nice looking and great sounding turntable, the TEAC TN-300 (I know because I bought one from Richer Sounds a year ago) :)

All four colours are available although some are in store only. I think I paid £250 for mine but the price now is £239 (and possible a further £10 off for VIP members - which is a mailing list that's free to join). You should get an email stating that until 20th May you'll get £10 off any spend over £100.

I've looked around and there is one open box TN-300 for £229 at Peter Tyson and a few in black only on Amazon. So in terms of customer service and colour choice I think this is a better deal.

Onto the specs.... well out of the box this turntable is excellent, I've really enjoyed getting back into Vinyl using this turntable, the sound is "bright and vivid" if that makes sense. The Turntable includes a Phono Stage so you can plug it straight into a surround sound amplifier, and the stylus is the highly respected Audio Technica AT95E cartridge.

I've since upgraded to an external preamp/phono stage and an Ortofon cartridge to give it a bit of extra oomph but out of the box it's absolutely fine and will please most people as it is.

The main body is very nice, it's polished MDF and gives it a really classy feel. With the USB out feature you can easily archive your old vinyls, I've tried this a few times and the results have been excellent (I can post some Youtube links if you are interested).

OK couldn't resist X)

Here is a 12" I recorded using the USB output into Audacity running on my laptop. I didn't adjust the sound at all it's just as it comes out. I then recorded the 12" playing and added the sound track to the video.

Which? give it Best Buy status and 73%, only beaten by a couple of Rega Planars. Heat.

Cold. Same price in other places.
Can get better around that price.

Be interested to know which other places as I did check.....

"Better" is a difficult thing to quantify as there are quite a few variables and personal preferences turntables, my personal feeling have looked at all of the turntables in the £2-300 bracket was that this one was easily the best.

Peter Tyson and Amazon first places I looked.
The Sony PSX-500 does double-DSD rips and is 275 at Richer Sounds.
As you say to each their own. Personally I prefer the Sony.

I did check Peter Tyson (as mentioned in my deal) but they were showing one open box and Amazon had just black.

The Sony is a nice turntable and gets good reviews, so certainly not going to knock it.

Richer Sounds have the PS-HX500 not the PS-X500 (which is a much older model). Still good though.

Was this recording made using the stock AT95E cartridge or the Ortofon? I noticed some slight sibilance.

I have a VMS30E MKII which I used on my old Aiwa LP-3000 deck and was thinking of using that on either this deck or the Sony PS-HX500. I haven't decided which I'm going to get yet.

Good point.... I'm using the Ortofon on this recording... I have other video clips which are just recording the amplified sound happy to post a few if it helps.

Also interesting you mention about sibilance, (I had to look it up) hehe and found this thread HERE

I can't say I have noticed particularly high or sharp trebles, very crisp though.
