Tis half price at the moment, nothing saying it is but I noticed the price drop earlier on Steam. Arguably one of the best active multiplayer games around at a great price

Absolutely worth it - Great Price, Heat Added.

Great game, great price

One of my favourite games of all time, but saddly ruined by their recent faffing about with classes and weaponry, which basicly means the best/most experienced players have hugely more effective weaponry than the occasional or casual player - such a shame!

nonsense as the new dropping system allow a newbie to get a good weapon without any achievement grinding.

And if you feel in need of weapons I can donate you a couple! My steam name is the same as in here, :)

On the other hand it can be annoying due to hat traders.

Just to let everyone know, this price is staying permanently.

Good price but I paid £15.00 for the orange box in 2007!

That was a bargain.

Nope, it'll recognise your OS and download the appropriate version. If you have a mac and a pc you can download it on both no problem

i ask because i know my macbook pro is powerful enough to play it, but i would prefer it on my shuttle pc. but im not so sure it would run ok on that.
so if it doesnt run on the pc, i could at least use it on the mac

too close to easter sales for buying this... almost guarenteed it'll hit £2 over easter
#11
it was £2.50 last halloween, part of the orange box for £5 sometime before that (good times), so my guess is that this could get even lower.

Good price although the hats have now ruined this game :(
#13
really fun game to play

Nom nom nom. FYI I am a spy ... I told you not to touch my metal son.

Best. Game. Ever.

Using the degreaser gun to air blast enemies off a cliff to their death or backstabbing as a spy is just too good to turn down.

Is it that great.

I love CSS but I'm not sure about this, and the above comments about the already better players having even better weaponry basically because of their rank (a particular annoyance I have with the rank system that is so common in shooters these days) Is putting me off.

If I'm getting annihilated through lack of map knowledge I can deal with that. If I'm getting annihilated because more experience players have better weapons then I can't really be bothered with it to begin with.
#16
Voted hot for the price - it used to be a good game, but it is now basically a "Hat collection simulator"

Most of the non-standard weapons have disadvantages compared to the standard weapons, so it is often a trade off. For example, I like using the demo man with grenade launcher. The basic grenade launcher isn't as powerful as the upgraded one, but it was far more ammo and the grenades bounce a few times before they explode (meaning you can get people round corners). Where as, as soon as a grenade touches something in the upgraded launcher, it goes off (only causing damage if it directly hits a player).

I agree. Can't understand why hats are so important for those people! I have a bunch of them which I got just by playing and when somebody asks for trade I decline straight away as they are jst going to ask for flicking hats!

Do I need to attach a mouse to my macbook to play this?
#21
brilliant deal.

a mouse is really vital for this game, requires a high level of movement
#22
good game shame i suck hard at it

No but if you get a kill, it'll be a damn miracle, the game requires very quick free form movement of the mouse, which can't be achieved using a trackpad, a dedicated mouse of some form is HIGHLY advisable.

orange box anyone? :|

this thread has reminded me that i have a free copy of Half life 2 and Half life 2 episode 1. if anybody wants it send me a msg :)

This is easily the best PC multiplayer game the free stuff they give you is amazing eg Christams, Hallowean etc

As for pro weapons the vanilla set of weapons is as good as any of the others the ones you gain are just different for every disadvantage they'll have an advantage etc

No, being a Macbook you can use your Steve Jobs vibe to control the players with your mind.

You won't be able to play well without a mouse.

I find it strange that a CSS player is complaining about some players having better weapons. What makes CS / CSS so utterly dull is:

The Ikea shopping experience at the start of every round
AWP uber 7337ers that whine if you kill then
Having to stare at other players bottoms until the next round starts.

Why CS ever became popular, especially in the days of pay-per-minute internet access, will always be a mystery! TFC and TF2 are infeinetly more fun as you never have to stop playing!

I think its popularity speaks for itself the fact that even today the original CS is still played by thousands is a testament too how good it is.

orange box tenner on most online stores - you'd be a chump not to get portal and half life 2 /ep 1/ep 2 for an extra £3

'nuff said
#31
not really worth it as you can get the orange box from amazon.co.uk for 11 quid which includes this, portal, half life 2 and half life 2 episode 1 and 2

Sorry but this isn't the case with TF2. Most of the 'better' weapons aren't really any better than the original ones that first appeared. They are just a different style. I still use the older weapons for many of the classes and still do pretty good (if I may say so myself). You can always trade and buy weapons if you don't want to wait for the drops.

Must say the trading aspect seems to have got a bit out of hand - but doesn't stop this being one of the greatest multiplayers ever.
#33
Are you all nuts? just spend a tenner to buy the orange box online. You get the retail box and 5 other games with this.

How in your right mind could you think this is a good deal?

as mentioned, this feeling is in large part due to no knowledge of maps (though they are a lot simpler than most online FPS, just learn the powerup spots/chokepoints) and not used to game handling/mechanics. you don't need to put much time in to get a feel for TF2 and get a class of choice - some weapons are better in general but have tradeoffs, like the scouts most powerful shotgun has smaller clip, most passive gear buffs are offset by a loss to another stat etc. game is still receiving patches and additional maps/gear/content and has many many active servers online.

and get orange box.

For those worried about the updates to this game since its release:

Hats: Almost totally cosmetic so haven't ruined anything at all. Sure, people may look a bit different these days, but in the end it's just a hat. There are the odd exceptions to this but they're few and far between.

Weapons: I've been playing this a long time now and for the most part I still use default weapons on the majority of the classes. The reason for this is the trade-offs that you have to do for each of the weapons is quite fair. If you get a damage increase in one situation, you get handicaps in other aspects of your play. For example, you can get boots for the soldier which prevent 60% of the damage you take when you do a rocket jump. In using this, you replace the shotgun, which is a great secondary weapon for finishing someone off rather than reloading your rockets and getting killed in the process.

I think they are complaining because some people are more concerned about exchanging / selling hats than playing the game.

I just can't be bothered to accept trading request anymore as 99.9% of the time is an idiot asking:

Do you have any hats to trade??

You can get it from Amazon now for £10.99 - so I'd not touch this deal.
