Good little camera that takes decent photos BUT it does chew the batteries even when using the re-chargable ones. Sturdy, and good for getting the kids used to their own camera - got ours this last year.

why is everybody submitting cameras int he computer section, this should go to electricals.

By the time you've bought an SD card and a few packs of batteries I think you'll wish you'd spent a bit more in the first place for a better camera (with zoom and rechargeable battery).

Yes, I know it's a cheapie for the kids but I suggest it still isn't good value. Reviews aren't great either.

This is more than 50 - but if you can stretch to 60 it is a much better camera. However you would need a memory card too so perhaps too much. http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/565601/FUJIFILM-A160

50 quid is going to be tight but if you watch on here or look out for clearance items in store you should get something decent. If you stretch to £60 the market opens up quite a bit. Key things to look out for are: a recognised brand; SD card memory (the cheapest) and a 3x optical zoom. You don't need lots of Megapixels (7Mp is loads). Rechargeable battery a great advantage but may be a challenge at that budget level.

I know it's considerably more than this one but the results will be way better and with care it should last a few years. However, if it's just a toy and not going to get looked after then this one minimises the loss! I would have thought at 12 years old the average kid is old enough to encourage a lifelong interest in photography.

If picture quality isn't important there are plenty of phones with cameras for less. Just a thought.
