Don't know if it's any good but dirt cheap for an upscaling DVD player with speakers!
That's what you usually pay for a budget normal DVD player. Heat for that from me!

I have recently bought the std Tesco upscaling DVD player for £25, emergency purchase when we'd gone away for the weekend and took a load of DVD's with us to watch but the hotel (Celtic Manor) had no DVD player in room.

Qulatiy was excellent, so really tempted to get this for £22.47

Wow this seems like a bargain. Bought a Technika upscaling HDMI DVD player for my grandmother's new HDTV and it works a treat, and that was on its own for about £30.

£22.97 to torture your eyes/ears, no thanks. Still at least it's so shoddy it'll break before you have to suffer it for too long.

The fact is this is a brilliant price for an upscaling dvd player, Not only that you can dock your ipod on it you get a couple of little speakers ideal for a bedroom setup and some travel speakers. If you dont like it please add contructive comments not a load of old tosh! Like I said you obviously know very little (broadly)
Maybe you should get back to your anime characters! 8)

Resorting to ad hominem already, how very predictable.

In order to be "a brilliant price", rather than just cheap crap, it would actually have to be at least a reasonable example of what it is. It is not, it is in-fact pretty much the worst example you're likely to find.

For starters it looks cheap and tacky, in-fact it actually looks cheaper than it is, which is pretty good going at £22.97. Admittedly that's subjective, but I'm sure I'm not alone in those thoughts.

Then we get onto the quality of the product itself: The internet is littered with examples of the poor reliability of this and Technika products in general. They are made as cheaply as possible so Tesco can sell them cheap but still make a decent margin, so their poor design and build quality is hardly a surprise. This one's not subjective, it is fact, Technika products are well known for their high failure rates.

Then there's the performance of the product: The sound these things put out is egregious. The picture isn't much better, but then you'll probably never notice if your TV is equally as bad and if we are honest that's probably going to be the case if you're spending £22.97 on one of these. With that in mind I'm not going to suggest you would have to be tone deaf and at best partially sighted to think this sounds good or performs well as an up-scaling DVD player, you probably just don't know any better, but you should think twice about having the cheek to say I'm the one talking "a load of old tosh". :p

Cheap it may be, very cheap in-fact, but it still doesn't alter the fact it's a poor product. While you may be happy to take the cheapest you can find, I'll stick to buying quality thank you (_;)

Did you sit down with pen and paper and write that, and just because it is cheap it must be a poor product? Like I said you obviously know nothing.

Budget products can perform as good as or better then more expensive products of the same spec, all you are doing is paying for them showing the product in magazines and TV adverts. That in turn makes you a mug :)

Also this is hotdealsuk, Its the cheapest price for this product which makes it hot, are you a little slow in understanding concepts and how things work? (_;)

Some people can't afford to pay for a company's advertising costs so they buy products like technika and never have problems.
You are obviously a very snobbish person and obviously a very lonely person if you carry that attitude around with you all the time.

and we're back to ad hominem arguments again, if your had faith in your arguments you wouldn't need to insult me or make assumptions about me to fit your arguments :p

It's not a poor product because it's cheap, as you rightly imply you can actually pick up some very good products for very little, this particular product however is cheap because it's a poor product! As already mentioned Technika products are very well known for their reliability and quality issues.

Again as you rightly imply some people can't afford to buy the best examples of particular products, but this particular product would be a waste of £22.97 that those people can ill afford! So I think you'll find it's not me who's the mug in this equation, I'm not the one trying to persuade people to waste their hard earned on this steaming pile (_;)

I am not trying to convince people to buy it I get nothing out of it, I am merely suggesting it as a viable option as a DVD player, IMO of reasonable quality.

Just because it is cheap you wrongly assume it to be of poor quality, the sign of a poorly educated snobbish mind.

Also I am not making assumptions of you to fit my arguement, You do that all by yourself by your as I said "snobbish comments".

A player you spend £150 on can break and yes you have your 12 month warranty, which you also have on this product. I couldn't give a toss about if you buy it or not but please come forward with an informed product knowledge not say its crap because its cheap, that is really sad.

I can't be bothered continuing this arguement, its pathetic like its creator :)

If you need a DVD player of reasonable quality then Yes, if you don't then...
no, lol :p

So long as it works and you're not planning on hooking it to a 50" plasma I can't see how you can complain. Nice post in my book, great for the kids!

Can someone explain what 'upscaling' means please? Not heard of this.

I need an ipod dock for playing music on - would this do the job?
If so I may come in handy for watching DVDs in bed and playing music.

Cheers.
