Yes sorry must be going blind - HOT
#3
its £80. just been in
#4
sorry didnt read properly. this is a great deal and im kinda thankful i saw it because i nearly just paid £80 in store.....heat!
#5
Yeah its the best price for a Freeview HD box at the moment, just need more HD channels now!
#6
Great deal even if no BBCiplayer
#7
There are going to be what, a maximum of 3 or 4 HD channels on Freeview HD for the foreseeable future? £60 seems a bit steep for a handful of channels.
#8
Price ok but a set top box with no PVR facilities is no good to me really.
#9
Is the code valid on anything else?
#10
Voted hot as best price for a HD Freeview.

Can't see any mention of tuners - anyone know if this is twin-tuner, or single?
#11
According to Tesco it's:

Tuners: 1x Digital

Still good price though
#12
Thanks 8tpercent - I didn't see that.

Single tuner means you can only watch one side - as it has no PVR I suppose it was obvious

It'll no doubt upscale existing channels, so its a bit better. I've got a goodmans HDMI freeview box i've had for a while and the upscaling on that ain't too bad.
#14
Took a punt on this as figure got nothing to lose if I can return it. £60 quid cannot go wrong.

No reason to have two tuners - it doesn't record, so what would be the point?

Great price, but no HD until 2012 over here or I'd snap one up.
#16
Good price, but until BBC1 HD launches there realy isn't anything worth watching on HD.

I'm waiting for a DVB-T2 pc tuner (pci or usb) to get to market. Apparently the TV & set-top box manufacturers have called dibs on all the specialist ICs - so there's going to be a long wait :(

Sux realy, as a PC will make a much better PVR than all the buggy pieces o' crap currently on the market.

No my friend, the Tesco site says that this is only on this box.

The exact words are - TDX-L24F - Save £20 On Technika Freeview HD Set Top Box - and that's after you enter the code.

Dont forget if your on Teesside a good majority can receive freeview hd via the pontop pike transmitter youll need a different aerial or your current aerial turning to Pontop

Judging from most other HD box reviews I would not assume that SD content would look good on this.

Thinking about getting this, but I have a Hitachi hdmi box which was half price at argos £39.99 down to £19.99 i think and it upscales so well you would not believe, so would put me off if this box couldn't do the same.

Actually, it does work on multiple products.
Technika STBHDIS2010 Freeview HD Set Top Box (this deal)
Technika STBHDV2010 Freeview HD Set Top Box

Don't ask me what the difference between the two is; feature-wise they seem almost identical.

:edit:

Apparently the STBHDIS2010 is manufactured by some Chinese company, where-as the STBHDV2010 is manufactured by Vestel.

No idea which is better, first couple of googles have turned up a number of reports of instability & crashing. Though this problem plagues all the HD set-top boxes atm.

Anyone know when sky is going to do that deal again where you get half price tv packages for a year and free HD box and installation?
#23
As with all new technology this is really expensive for what it is. £60 for a few HD channels that your normal freeview cant get is not good value. Voted hot as its the cheapest box you can get at the mo tho. I personally would wait until they are the same price or phase out normal freeview boxes.
#24
Technika? No thanks. I'd rather set myself alight,

Double clubcard points = £1.20 in vouchers or £4.80 in rewards.

To clarify, the HD channels so far are BBC HD, ITV1 HD, 4HD, and S4C (Wales).

There are a few people in here slagging Freeview HD off, but to be fair, these are the top 3 freeview channels, so you can't really grumble. Presumably Five HD is coming soon as well, as it was just launched this month on Sky and Virgin.

You're not expecting Sky One are ya? :)
#27
Don't think there will be Five HD - the transmitter space was re-allocated to the BBC who plan to use it for BBC1 HD

I looked at these in Tesco yesterday - the STBHDIS2010 seems to have 2 scarts, but the STBHDV2010 seems to have only one, but also has digital out which the STBHDIS2010 doesn't seem to have. Just ordered the STBHDV2010 for collection Tuesday, will return if crap.

I collected mine today. Connected it up with an HDMI lead and switched on to find that the remote control was dead.
I tried it out using the buttons on the box to control it and was impressed with the picture quality. As expected HD channels are much better but so too are SD channels compared to viewing on the tv's built in tuner. I watched tv for about 30 mins. and turned it off. Now when I switch it on, initially I get the channel list but when I select a channel the tv screen goes black and displays the message ' Mode not supported '.
I bought the tv a Samsung LE3241BD about 4 years ago, it was described as HD ready and has a resolution of 1366 x 768
At a guess the ' Mode not supported ' message is because the box is outputing at resolution not supported by the tv, does that sound right? If so why did it work at first and not now?
Now I have to decide between a replacement box or refund but am concerned that a replacement may also have the ' Mode not supported ' problem. Should the box be able to determine the tv's capability and output accordingly?

faulty with the box, get it replaced. or get a branded freeview hd box, you get what you pay for..

I'd go with a replacement - a branded freeview HD box will cost a minimum of £130. Glad the SD channels are better than when viewed through the TV's own receiver. Hope this is the case with the model I plumped for (STBHDV2010).
#32
USB could be interesting on this machine - can't be that hard to allow it to record as you can do this with technika tvs
#33
After problems I got a replacement box which works great except for one thing.
It keeps losing the HD channels from the EPG. No problem with the other channels and I can get the HD channels back with a re-scan, but that's a nuisance .
Any ideas why this is happening? Weak signal maybe?
