Glad I missed out on the supposedly buggy Grundig Freesat recorder deal the other day now. The HDFS is very well reviewed as a quality HD receiver which can record to any USB Drive. In the small world of Freesat boxes is generally considered second only to the Humax HDR which was a scorching deal a couple of days back at just under £200, this is £44.

Clearly the capacity will depend on the USB drive added, it is also only single tuner. The picture quality is top notch, the box is stable and the thing is German made with a three year warranty. Looks nice to boot :-)

First time I have found a bargain in Tesco personally so can finally say they do exist.

Only has a single tuner so you can't watch one programme while recording another :(

This is not a " recorder ", it only has the ability to be transformed to a recorder via external USB sources.

So title is incorrect.

Is this national or store specific?

It's more a recorder than not a recorder.

So can someone clarify that if I want to record a sky sports programme and watch it at the same time, as long as I have a usb drive, it'll record whatever channel I am watching?

No, because Sky Sports is not available on Freesat

This is about to get VERY hot! I got this from Amazon last year for about £120 and it really is a brilliant Freesat box and the PVR is a bonus. Ok you cant do 2 channels but it is just a bonus. You can also tune in some other HD channels and hidden channels!

Voted VERY hot for me and tempted to get one as a backup if mine ever fails!

Seems pretty limited if you can only record what you're already watching (or you have to leave it on the channel you require)? oO

But cheap as a recorder if this doesn't bother you...

At that price, buy 2 (though good luck getting the remotes to not interfere with each other ;))

You can also record programmes in advance using the EPG, and the box will come out of standby to record them. There's no series-link function, but you can record something at the same time each week.

I own one of these and agree its an excellent product, it will also hook up to a router (I added a technisat wifi dongle to it) to watch bbc iplayer via wifi..

But can you clarify what extra channels you managed to add and how, esp HD ones....cheers

is this Linux based? can you flash it with gemini or something and put cccam?

Can you connect an external USB Hard Drive to this or does it have to be a USB Stick?

Works fine with a USB hard drive - I've got a 2.5" drive connected to mine, powered through a single USB

You can get non-freesat HD channels by switch to Technisat mode, not Freesat mode. You'll be able to receive all other free to air programs not in Freesat program. Last time I checked this includes NHK HD, and many interanational standard res programs. The downside is you lose BBC iPlayer if you are using Technisat mode.

This box is very versatile and good quality. Channel switching is very fast. Picture quality is excellent, much better than the Sky HD box.

I paid about £85 for it, and this price it's worth getting 2.

Can you please give more details about the hidden channels? What channels did you got?

Can you put a sky card into one of this?

Got mine last year for the world cup and it has been excellent. Had to send the first one back but Technisat were very good at replacing it. Picture quality better than a sky box. NHK HD is on FreeSat btw but you can pick up additional SD channels such as SkyNews (if you really want to), Asian and religious ones in technisat mode but the guide is quite ugly. We record onto an old laptop drive in a cheap enclosure and there are two usb ports so we sometimes add a usb stick on front one too. iPlayer quality is not nearly as good as on my Sony Home Cinema but better than some alternatives such as the Wii. Unlike Humax it doesn't support ITVPlayer but that seems to have been on trial for ever having appeared long before even the Humax was supported.

They had a few of them at the Tesco I went to, hence why it was marked up on the shelf as in the photo I added. Wasn't sure whether to grab more, but in the interest of happy HUKD peeps anyone in the Tesco Park Road Liverpool area (the new one with parking underneath) should fill there boots.

Deffo not a one in the UK deal, but having chased many Tesco's for many deals before and never got one, this was a pleasant find indeed.
