250GB harddrive gives 180 hours recording
freeview+ means it'll wait for the program to start before recording (not just taping eastenders 7:30-8!) not sure what else it means as i dont have it on mine :(
twin tuner means you can record 1 channel while watching another (maybe record 2?)
CAM slot for top up tv

i've not bought 1 as i have a toppy but i did buy 1 for the mother & cant wait to have a go of it!

i'm sure it was 1012. when i saw them in the warehouse yesterday i thought i'd try and find out more but theres not much out there!

it doesnt look much, its the spec that makes up for it i think! the remote also looks well laid out.

I have a Techwood 32" HD TV from Morrisons, it's great. Not had no problems. I was a bit iffy with it being Techwood but it's brill.

can you connect it to a sky digibox or virgin media box to use as a HDD recorder?

Freeview+ boxes must have the following....

All Freeview+ receivers are required to include the following features:-.

* At least 8 Day Electronic Programme Guide (EPG)
* Series Link (one timer to record whole series)
* Record split programmes as one programme
* Offer to record related programme
* Record alternative showing if there is a time conflict
* Schedule changes updated in standby (e.g. scheduled recording starting early)
* Accurate recording (equivalent to PDC - programmes are recorded based on signals from the broadcaster rather than scheduled time) - since this is based on signals from the broadcaster, the broadcaster can prevent recording by sending nonsense signals as a form of copy protection, as already happens on music channels. This can be circumvented by specifying a timer recording instead of a programme recording or by routing the player through a good ol' vhs player.

according to the piccie above the set is a freeview+ one :)

It looks like a standard Vestel box but I would check the forums at DigitalSpy for more details.

They may be required but I have found that some dont have these features but have a disclaimer in the manual stating these features will be 'coming soon via over air update'. I'm still awaiting all the following updates on my freeview+ tevion after 2 years! :x

mmm that is not impressive and I wonder how they are able to do use a disclaimer whilst claiming to conform to a standard..? Unless the above functions which you have noted are not just relying on the unit itself but also on the channels / programmes to broadcast the needed information for series link, for example, to work..?

I also have a humax running from the same aeriel which does have all those functions.

I agree, they shouldnt be allowed to put disclaimers in :x

this pvr is one of many brand of same basic product
they been badged as techwood digihome goodmans sharp hitachi and many others
the newer models are alble to record 2 channels at once and some have hdmi and top up slots

i had older model sharp 160gb and was fairly happy was quiet and reliable
this has 250gb card slot for top up tv and will probaly have espn sport soon which bought out setanta rights to premier games
i think also in future sky may put stuff lke sports and moveis on freeview but dont quote me on that they always discussing it
i reckon this good value for money fill your boots

Better off with a refurbed Humax box for under £100.
Comes with a 1 yr gaurantee so can't go wrong...

Anyone got one of these? just got one from morrisons but know that some of these pvr's have niggly faults so may take it back and go for a refurbished humax.

Obviously can go worng or they would not have been back for refurbishment.
#25
Cheapo PVRs have a terrible reputation for reliability.

While this is a good price for the features you get I'd recommend spending a bit more on a Humax that will be more reliable and with much better support from the manufacturer.

It's a Vestel T845 clone which has been already been said are very buggy, some of the other (non TUTV) Vestels are decent, but probably not this one

they're not normally faulty. just customer returns.

I have just got mine and set it up. All seems to work well and as my wife gets 10% off at Morrison's for £53 it seems a good deal for meal, as long as it works as it should.
I am updating the software, hopefully, as it came with version 0.5 and version 2.04 is available.
The Humax might be a "better" PVR but then again at twice the cost of this one, which has a larger HD than the cheapest Humax, I would expect it to be.

come back in a week and post a review. You might have more to say about paying the extra for a working humax then ;-)

You might be right :)
If it proves to be problematic than all I will do is to return it and get my money back.

As has been said this is a T845 Vestel box as they are known. Currently known variations include (alphabetical order): Bush TU160DTR, TU250DTR, TU320DTR and TU500DTR (Argos) · Digihome DG250DTRA08 (Tesco) · Luxor TUTV2500 (Comet) · Sharp TUTV162H and TUTV252H · Wharfedale Top Up TV Digital TV Recorder in 160, 250, 320 and 500Gb flavours (Argos)

Went to three morrisons today and it was sold out in all of them.:x

Can you load stuff onto this from a flash drive or external drive? Like AVI etc
#34
just bought 1 of these today! got to say its great! does what it says, has not crashed or froze and had it running for a few hours now. dual tuner lets you record 1 channel and watch another, or you can even record two different channels at the same time!

very easy to use and set up, has 2 audio (left/right) outputs at the back, 2 scarts, RS232 port (possibly for updating), optical output... On the front panel there is a card slot which comes with the box, and a USB port but the USB feature seems to be disabled and does not have any effect.

The EPG is good and simple. The remote control is good - similar look to the sky remotes!

It is very clear and has good features.recording quality is good, and recording features are good too!

overall im very happy with the product! at £60 cant really go wrong.. similar spec units are around £100 elsewhere.. well worth it!

glad someone else is having good times with it! the one i got the family is working far better than there old 1. i bought them a humax (the make everyone keeps recommending) 4 years, at
the same time got myself a topfield. the toppy has never missed a recording & is just amazing! still going strong! the humax however is dying. it has to by tilted for it to work properly now! its missing recordings also. even when it was fine i found it slow, featureless & no way worth the price i paid!

if i didnt have a toppy i'd be buying this (although i am tempted still!) but at this price is all does go wrong after a year you could probably take it apart and sell the harddrive for £30

Hi, a bit slow here when it comes to the technical side of things. I know there's already been a post asking (I think) the same thing, but what I need to know is if you can record from Sky with this Techwood machine, or only from the freeview channel. If it's the latter, then I'm not interested, so I could really do with knowing.

Thanks in advance.
