These are great when they work. Ours lasted 8 months before the paddle gave up rotating. Ours never caught fire though so ignore the scaremongers.

Rubbish!!!!! (They've been redesigned since then - please keep up to date before scaremongering)

You couldn't cook fish in home made batter or anything else that requires submerging in actual hot oil in one of these can you? If not I really can't see the point of them...I'm sure oven chips are just as healthy!

Got one when the Argos deal was on a while back - superb piece of kit, we use it regularly, and soooo much better than oven chips. Well worth the money back then, and this is even cheaper
#8

Not Rubish at all, I love these, but have to admit I am getting tired of them going wrong as I am now on my 6th one in 3 years (3 white and 3 black).. with the first 2 the element burnt out, with the 3rd one the paddle jammed, the 4th one which was one of the new black ones caught fire and melted, and the fifth one which was also one of the new black ones was returned only last week as the plastic catch that keeps the lid in place snapped off.. cant comment on the 6th as only had it a week.. but the fact I keep faith with them after all this just goes to show how good I think they are while they work.. but sooner or later I will give up....

seems a good price

You can cook all sorts in them, Currys, Risotto's, Chicken, Chilli's, Stir Frys, Chips, you get a 160 page recipe book with meals from all over the world in it with the Black version... Im not sure about whether you get it with the white version as I last had one of those over 18 months ago, and at that time it came with a smaller book with 30 recipes in it...

Rubbish! We had one for 12 months before it went bang and burnt out a few weeks ago. They make good chips but they're rubbish build quality.

Are this good enough to cooked fish like salomon without smell all around house???
#22
Got one of these last christmas at Argos for £99 (While working there)

Nice bit of kit, However the lid spring gave way and the lid flew into about 4 bits, rang the company and they sent us a free lid (3 weeks later...)

Great for chips/sausages, or making a Curry/Bolognese

Same here. Died a noisy and fiery death just after the guarantee ran out. Not the first Tefal product with dodgy design/build quality that has ever crossed my path, either. I just avoid them now.

Have to agree with the others though, it was great while it worked.

Make sure your house insurance is up to date before buying one!!

Anybody got suggestions as to alternatives? The job this does seem to be recommended a lot but unfortunately the safety record and build quality doesn't inspire confidence. Surely there must be a good alternative?
#27
will this ever be sub £100?

even with all the problems mentioned above im surprised the price has not dropped much

Great way to make the basis of a fire damage insurance claim.

line a oven-proof tray with tinfoil (enough to fold over and form parcel) sit salmon on lemon slices, splash with white wine, bit of dill, butter, black pepper, fold up the parcel and bake in oven for 20-25 mins at 200

Joking aside, you have to wonder why on earth Tefal weren't forced to recall these.

With such an item I would rather pay more at costco or amazon so I get a replacement if it goes wrong. Don't know about direct but tesco store return is a bloody misery, the last time I dealt with them they told me to send a faulty device (bought three days) before back to the manufacturer to be repaired. For anything over £50 I now avoid tesco, currys, comet, pc world.
#32
That's not right I've tAken loads back to tesco no questions asked
#33
We've had ours for more than a year and it is excellent although again one of its lid latches has snapped and the lid is only held in place by the other fragile latch which can give any minute. The design leaves a lot to be desired.

The price has actually gone up~! I was looking at these last year and they were all selling for around the £140 mark, now you are hard pushed to find one under £170!

either
go in store, hand your vouchers to CC, who will give you £10 for every £5 then take item to till or order via Tescos collection

or
go online, put vouchers details in and order fo rome delivery / collection

Possibly, but others might prefer to pay just £109 for one from Currys (£125 from Tesco) and use the double up Clubcard vouchers for something that Tesco isn't more expensive for.

I have one of these and read all the horror stories but have to say no probs so fat, touch wood and it really is good. cooked chillis and chips, great for roast potatoes and roast parsnips too

I love my Actifry, beautiful chips, roast potatoesand parsnips. It was ideal when I was dieting, still able to have my fish and chips on a Friday night, and still be within my "points"
The chips cooked in the Actifry are far superior to oven chips in my opinion.
