First time I've seen this under £100 (even if it's only by 1p!) Gets great reviews and low fat means it's actually healthy.............. :D

Smoking (pun) !
Hot from me though!

It's rrp is never £199??? It's always around £95 - £99 in Costco
#3
costco plus vat...99 is cheaper than costco....and I bought one of these 6 weeks ago and its great
#4
When are the other manufacturers going to step in and bring some competition to get the price down? I been waiting to get one for ages but its too expensive at a hundred quid! Was hoping some rivals would have released something by now. Not really wanting to spend 100 pound on something thats going to blow up in my face after a year.

1 star reviews make scary reading! Looks like, while you could get nice chips for 18 months, there's a risk this product could blow up. Heat added for price, but product leaves me cold
#6
got mine from Costco a year or so ago & it's fantastic. The 18 month explosion coulfd be any day now tho. Also heats the kitchen pretty well

i imagine an explosion would do!!! lol

You should watch the watchdog report on these, works great until it bursts into flames apparently. I have heard that the new model (model code in the 7000 range) are better though but they are more.expensive than the base model.
#9
I have couple two of these and both failed less than two years old. Very expensive given the lifespan.

thye're comparing to the newer, non explosive model which is ~£199 rrp; these older models can be found for around this price in many places.

There's also that american one, the food goes in a round cage and it turns round and round. Not sure if 100 worth it, it's definitely a hot deal (mind the pun), but rather not risk an explosion or fire or worst.
#13
Got one for Christmas from the Parents, I think its great, Worth getting, Doe's get very hot though!
#14

#15

Make sure you have good house fire insurance!!!!!!

Guys - what's with the negativity? I've had one for years without any issues and chips come out nice and healthy (just potato and olive oil) but you an make currys etc in there. It's brilliant, safer than a vat of hot oil, no smells and easy to clean. I've converted some of my friends too.
#18
I've had one for 2 years now...I think it's a good bit of kit - the chips are nice but it's good for doing other stuff like roast potatoes too.

I can see how the over heating can happen...if you put too much solid food in, the paddle can get stuck as the food blocks it and I imagine it overheats and can break, so just make sure you don't add more than the recommended amount of food.
#19
what is the warranty period on these? Just the 1 year?
#20
I am thinking, that Amazon has 19 more, the price will drop more to sell them... we have to wait for a better price
#21
We had one of these after my other halfs parents and grandma recommended it. Made lovely chips as well as lucious sausages and roast veg for a sunday dinner.

And when his parents first machine blew up and blew the fuses, Costco changed it, no problems mentioning that they'd had a few returned and thought they'd had a faulty batch.

Then his grandmas blew up. And his parents second model went with a bang.

Needless to say, when ours went pop, literally, we didn't replace it. Not worth it in the slightest.

Cold for product. Not voting either way as it's about deals and this seems to be the best price, but I would strongly advise against one, none of ours lasted even 18months.
#22
I love mine!! best chips ever!
#23
my mum had one died after 13-14months get extended warranty if you can
#24
Far too many stories of blowing up and burning, looks like the ones that got the things that are going after two years got the faulty batch, because they didn't explode.

There are too many people in this thread with first hand experience of faulty units that it's just not worth the risk.

Voting cold, because who in their right mind would purchase a sword of Damocles for their own use and call it a bargain.

One of the best kitchen gadgets I've ever owned right until it conked out.
Exploding and blowing up is a bit excessive though. What happens is the fan breaks down and the element smokes a bit till it cools down.
I'll probably get another one at some point, but it's one item I'd consider getting an extended warranty on.
#26
ive wanted one of these for years, after reading the reviews though both on here and another site, i think il save myself the bother, maybe wait till the air fryer comes down in price :)
#27
were on our 3rd lid, the crappy plastic catches break, my mates blew up so he gave us his lid as ours is out of warranty now
#28
I thought with these latest models the flaws had been fixed and thats why the prices had gone up. I'm sure these were always sub £100 a year or two ago because they had so many problems with earlier models.

true, but costco give a 5 year guarantee with electrical purchases.##

Still voted hot as costco is members only

Voted hot, I have one and they are excellent. The stories of them catching fire are mainly down to poor usage. People push them up against the wall when using, this blocks the fans and they heat up. So it's to be expected. What would you expect your PC to do if you blocked the fans and airflow.

If you want chips cooked in boiling oil, then support your local chip shop. If you really must cook chips at home, use the less than ideal oven chips. You wouldn't put a few litres of boiling diesel in your living room would you? So why do it in your kitchen?

A good compromise between a fryer and an oven chip is to rub your potato slices or wedges individually with a little oil then pop them in the oven to roast. Lovely.

Or they go with a big bang, a flash of light and fuse the other appliances in the kitchen as was the case with 2 of ours.

You are incorrect for assuming that every person who has complained about them on this thread have used them incorrectly. Granted, some users may not have used them in the correct manner, but do not tar everyone with the same brush as we were all responsible users with ours and they still blew. Not rocket science how to look after appliances correctly, they are clearly flawed in design.

Switch off due to the overheat protection that most new motherboards have! oO

At £1.50 for the chips and £5.00 for fish it will be literally supporting them charity like! Also most chippy chips differ greatly and most around here are pants, they cut corners for profit! Cheap tatties and not changing oil:(

You haven't got a clue about this product have you? ie, the difference between this and a normal deep fat fryer.
