Possibly not everyone's cup of tea, but Lakeland are selling the Tefal electric jam maker for £69.87 - it was originally £99.95 so it's a saving of around £30. Perhaps not that good at first glance, but I can't find it for under £89.99 anywhere else so if you're looking for this particular jam maker, I'd say it's a cracking deal.

Review

I bought this just a few weeks ago, and have already made delicious jam from blackcurrants, raspberries, strawberries, gooseberries and plums. I would agree with previous comments: you need to be prepared to experiment and adjust recipes from other sources. I used the steamer basket and programme to pre-cook blackcurrants according to my mother's recipe: equal weight of fruit and water (e.g. a pound of each) simmered for 20 minutes before tipping the fruit into the water and adding the sugar for the Jam Programme. Mother would have used 2 pounds of sugar for 1 pound of fruit, but I used less for a sharper result. We can recommend the Onion Confit recipe from the main book, which we made as Red Onion Marmalade. It's a real winner for a barbecue - excellent with sausages and burgers!

This would look great at the back of my cupboard next to the bread maker, electric knife, breville toaster and the 'Rap Tou'

Glad to see you've already found a place for it  Seriously though, as I said in my original post, it's not for everyone but if you're looking for this jam maker then it's a cracking deal.

That would mean having to throw away the soda stream to make space.

Jeez - what a dilemma! :?

I want to interrogate the previous tenant of my flat about the necessity for a milk boiler.

Don't take it personally - some will be voting this cold because the deals not relevant to them. TBH not many will be interested in a £70 jam maker but if you make a fuss about the cold votes people will vote it cold just to irritate you more........

Maybe because you can use an ordinary saucepan to make jam?
As I'm sure the mother in the review did!

You need a very good heavy bottomed pan, wooden spoon, thermometer, juicer(for making jellies),strainer and the time to stir and test the set.
this machine replaces all of these and can be left to its own devices.
I would love one of these as this is an excellent price, but sadly funds don't allow it.

The idea is good ... The price tag is still pretty high!!!
If they sell it to the price of ... a toaster maybe I ll consider :)

It's significantly cheaper than this toaster - will you now reconsider?? ;-)

Thanks for your post, Ryanposs! In the absolute, I find it a good deal, and it's a bit of a shame that you get voted cold only because it's not a popular item. That unfortunately also prevents people who would be interested to see your deal, as the home page only displays items above 40 degrees.

Here are 9 degrees from me, and since it won't be enough, I'll just throw in some rep' to make up for the disappointment. Don't get discouraged and please go on sharing your findings.

seriously, how tricky is it to make jam.

heat strawberries and sugar in a saucepan and stir a little.

jam done in 20 mins - £70 saved lol

what next for the useless lazy cook?
