Possibly not everyone's cup of tea, but Lakeland are selling the Tefal electric jam maker for £69.87 - it was originally £99.95 so it's a saving of around £30. Perhaps not that good at first glance, but I can't find it for under £89.99 anywhere else so if you're looking for this particular jam maker, I'd say it's a cracking deal.
I bought this just a few weeks ago, and have already made delicious jam from blackcurrants, raspberries, strawberries, gooseberries and plums. I would agree with previous comments: you need to be prepared to experiment and adjust recipes from other sources. I used the steamer basket and programme to pre-cook blackcurrants according to my mother's recipe: equal weight of fruit and water (e.g. a pound of each) simmered for 20 minutes before tipping the fruit into the water and adding the sugar for the Jam Programme. Mother would have used 2 pounds of sugar for 1 pound of fruit, but I used less for a sharper result. We can recommend the Onion Confit recipe from the main book, which we made as Red Onion Marmalade. It's a real winner for a barbecue - excellent with sausages and burgers!
