Hardly! If you have higher quality source equipment then you need a better TV - I think this is not full HD (I said 'think' before anyone jumps down my throat), and although I have a Panasonic myself I still think Pioneer make the best plasmas....

By all accounts Pioneer do indeed make the best plasmas but they are VERY expenmsive and will not be around much longer as Pioneer are exiting the TV market and closing their TV factory.

How is this only 90 degrees?
The previous best price on here was about £640 plus delivery on top of that?
That post got over 300 degrees?

Because that's what people decided to give it....... just let things happen, it's not a competition......

Any good deals on the 37" version of this?
Richer sounds should have it in soon.....if the in shop price is the same as their web site you could get John Lewis to price match it & get the 5 year guarantee.

You can get it from Dixons for £544 delivered using the code 'MARCH20'. Link  Not sure if John Lewis price match against Dixons but if they do you get a 5 year warranty thrown in. :)

John Lewis won't price match online stores...they used to but not anymore.
They will match shop prices but the item they are matching has to be in stock & the price has to be displayed, then they will price match.

Cheers.
FYI: The b just denotes the model is supplied with a british 3 pin plug

has anyone used Teleworld before?

John Lewis were selling this same tv for same price but with 5yr Guarantee, it didn't last long and was sold out very quickly.

Comet are doing it same price aswell: http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/448222/SAMSUNG-PS50A557S3FXXU

same TV just different model number (they do this so price matching is difficult)

I just called them and they seem ok, they have a store etc so how bad can they be? ;:whistling:

They have mixed feedback on the net like any company, if you are that concerned perhaps look at other retailers, or consider paying by credit card for additional security?

too big for most people except charvers who have front rooms smaller than these actual telly's and who mount them about 8 foot up on their wall and cover them with tinsel

I agree with the comments about the falling pound. I think some things will go up, however in a depressed market retailers will have to keep prices low, in order to have any chance of selling anything. One example is in denmark where tax on new cars is astronomical, so in order to sell cars at all, manufacturers have to sell the car at a very low price so that when tax is added it is still affordable. this is why when the £ was high, the best place to import from was denmark, as the ex tax price was the lowest (for imports you didn't pay the tax) so this might be what happens here, overseas manufactureres have to cut their margins for uk sales in order to retain a market share.

All of this is true and the fact that 200Hz TV's will be all the rage and the shops will need to shift the "older stock" Then we will have the "it's not 200Hz" mob replacing the "it's not 1080P" mob when people post deals. :whistling: Good spot for a nice telly Heat added.

I have contacted sainsbury.

Its a differnt model number and older version Sony kdl 32l4000

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665370677

they have had it for a few weeks- hardly selling, not surprise. As it isnt the same model number cant get it price match, dont think.

Any other clever ideas?
Dixons do not price match- they are only online now, currys part of DSG similar to Dixons price match and give a further 10% redcution.

im going to contact sainsbury. Im sure i get some unhepful person on the phone...lets just see
why don't you ring your nearest "big" Sainsbury store and ask them what the price is of the sony? It could well be someone chatting Sh"t on here for whatever reasons.

It is now £100 more than this - shown expired.

Just for clarity the KDL-40W4500 DOES NOT run at 200Mhz.
Generally, the higher the letter after the screen size the better the panel will be. "W" and "Z" are premium range - think of the "L" and "V" a bit like entry level models. HTH

Oh the main difference between the KDL-40W4000 and KDL-40W4500 is that the latter supports 100Mhz. TBH the sony panels are good enough without 100Mhz - I've never seen motion blurring yet on Sonys without 100Mhz (but then I go for the premium models) and this is now being introduced as a marketing gimmick - a bit like the processor speeds.

You pays your money....

Same here. I've noticed no motion blurring on mine, apparently there is on the larger screen (46"+).

I will hopefully be moving to a much bigger house in the new year (assuming I sell mine) and will probably get a 46" 4500 for the living room.

This expired very quickly.
I've amended the price. This brilliant TV is now £669.99 delivered.

If you include the 5 year warranty at cheap electricals the price is better at cheap electricals .
Thanks for reminder < steve bath >
Now if only somewhere cud cut off another £10 and throw in a free 5-year warrenty, seems like its getting close.
For further info check this site: http://www.avforums.com/forums/lcd-televisions/
Looks like issues were only seen on the bigger sets which can be replaced under warranty if you get a dodgy one.

AFAIK Sony only gave away PS3's with the X series in Australia, I don't think they have done a similar promotion here in the UK yet. You could always get a 'free' PS3 for taking out a mobile contract for 12 months, see here: http://www.mobilepricehunter.com/show.asp?price=100&gift=ps3%2080

thought it would be to good to be true!! guess i will consentrate on getting a cheap kdl 40w4500,
but the mobile option dosnt look to bad for the ps3, t-mobile looks cheap with only 12 month contract but not sure on coverage, would go for orange with me and the wife on orange.
thanks for the advise, you give me another option

Whats wrong with comic sans?
The TV is very very good. I got it from John Lewis 4 months ago for £950 incl 5 yr warranty. Teleworld are ok, at this price you would be waiting for atleast 4-5 weeks before they deliver

They're a small home cinema retailer, a lot of them have sucky websites. Here's the site for my local one:

They're an OK shop, service is great but the prices are rubbish. From their website though they look dodgy as hell!

Is There is Difference in Energy Usage?
Everyone has to play their part in bringing down energy consumption and fortunately both plasma and LCD televisions use up to 60% less power than old CRT technology. However, if you really want to minimise your energy usage, then LCD uses slightly less than plasma.

I think you will find that LCD uses around half the power of plasma. Also the larger the TV (normally far larger than the CRTs they are replacing) the more power is consumed. So generally, someone moving from CRT to a larger plasma or LCD will find a big increase in power usage. This is factual!
My personal fav is the Toshiba 40zf355 which is a 40" LCD with S-PVA panel that's also used in the Samsung A656 and Sony W4000. This is a 1080p with 100Hz panel.

PRC are doing it for £885.00 incl delivery, whereas JL are doing for £1299.00. Trying to get them to do a price match
Chris52;2983086
I too suspect it may not be as good but I don't know that it isn't.

As I am sure you have carried out a detailed comparison between this & the Pioneer/ Panasonic as the basis for your strong comment I would be very interested to hear exactly why this, as opposed to the previous model, is so inferior as I haven't seen one yet. Have you?

I haven't compared them. There is no need. A ferrari is better than a golf. No need to race them to prove it. I've yet to see any lcd that looks better than a decent plasma so i have no reason to think this one does.

And who actually cares about how much power they use? I best go and and stop my tumble dryer now so i can watch my plasma for a bit, i'll have to wear my pants wet in the morning.
Everytime Lcd v plasma b*llocks
Vote on this deal.
At £899 its a good deal. But add postage (free postage is upto 28 days) and then factor in no warranty you may want to shop elsewhere.

I wasn't aware of HDMI 1.3 until you edited your post. HDMI 1.3 is backward compatible, so it's introduction won't make these televisions completely obsolete, although I agree both HDMI and 100hz would seem important for the future.

There is a debate as to whether any Sony model can reproduce a real 100Hz signal, most people seem to think the current motion flow + 100hz just converts 100Hz from the 50Hz signal, but as there is no 100hz signal in the UK at the moment it is speculation.

I agree it won't make these T's obsolite, but you won't be able to enjoy the full beauty of higher definition pictures and word perfect sound (lip sync issues)
cats;2350035
Like all LCDs the image quality is totally unrealistic and cartoonised..........

I'm sorry but I have to totally disagreewith this comment. If you haven't already I'd advise that you watch a bluray movie through a 100hz LCD TV capable of true HD with HDMI v1.3 or sky sport HD channel. I think you might change your mind.
If you still feel the same I'm afraid you're in a minority.
hukd don;2353447
Even with the 5 year warranty?

In my experience thiese kind of warranties aren't worth the paper they're written on, typically they don't apply to anything that the individual shop considers wear & tear...i.e. usage...there are always loopholes.

The *vast* majority of things that might go wrong with a telly (i.e. electronics, speakers, dead pixels - typical things that are covered under the warranty) will go wrong in the first 3 to 6 months if they were going to go wrong at all. In which case you're still covered by the manufacturers warranty.

IMO It may say "free" warranty but it's still included in the price somewhere....I'd rather get a better telly and have it covered for accidental damage by your home insurance. If anything does go wrong outside the manufacturers warranty period just make sure you invite your 7 yr old neighbour over for a small 'accident' while playing video games.

Just my opinion.
Hmmm... was trying to see whether it was a secure payment site (as the rules state for Dixons price match), and it uses HSBC or something... cant see anything about it being secure...

Anyone ever ordered from them before?

I got a great deal from (believe it or not) House of Fraser. They had (and may still have ) it for sale in store for £599 with a 5 year Panasonic warranty included. You can phone your local store to check stock and price. I bought mine in Lakeside - Essex.

Another good buy is the Sony KDL32D3000. Similar spec TV for only £635 at PRCdirect.co.uk.
Check their site regularly as their prices fluctuate daily. TV is only available for pick up from their Essex stors.

Hope this helps someone.
