if it's anything like the iphone fiasco, it'll be availabe when their system comes back online...call tomorrow at 3...no 12....no 10:30 LOL :)

Works for me in Blackpool which is odd considering Virgin don't, but I'm currently tied down to a very expensive BT contract, gutted :(
#8
looks a good deal, includes caller ID. but no inclusive 0845 or 0870 numbers which is a shame

edit: its not much different to the o2 deal for o2 mobile customers.

'Line Test' my bottom

they will just look in a database, that's hardly a test!
#10
Mmmm, I would caution that they can only provide 20mb where the carrier they use can facilitate that, so Virgin or BT etc. I have a BT line, which has max 5mb, but its surprising the number of other vendors that tell me they can deliver 10 or 20mb, when I ask them how they do that when BT have told me its 5mb max, all of a sudden they get all tongue tied on the phone and need to speak to a supervisor.

No info on call charges anywhere. What have Tesco got to hide? Probably very high charges (as Virgin does)

NO international calls included. (Charges?)
NO 0845/0870 calls included! (Charges?)

I wouldn't touch that offer.

I have a BT line which I got changed to Virgin (non-cable) when I moved in mainly because it was a way to move without having to pay Virgin the remainder of the minimum 12 month contract for V+ and a couple of other add ons I took.

I get 10-11Mb fairly consistently at speedtest.net - should I only be able to get 5mb?
#15
hmm. I currently get 3.5Mb and their line test says I'll get 0.7Mb if I swap - don't think I'll be risking it thank you very much ....
#16
I get "We currently estimate the maximum speed on your line will be 13.388Mbps" - I've never got that with Virgin.

If you've got Virgin via phoneline it's ADSL not ADSL2+ which is what tesco offer. You'll get more out of a phone line with 2+ than with standard ADSL.

If you've got virgin via Cable then you can't compare, it's a different technology with a different delivery method.

It's got nothing to do with Virgin, why's it odd?

Like I said earlier in my post, the difference between ADSL and ADSL2+ could be the difference between 5mbit and 10mbit. I'm not arguing that call centre people are educated badly on the product they're selling, or that they'll plain lie to you, but just because BT can give you ADSL at 5mbit doesn't mean your line can't do better.

Very interesting, I didn't know any of that so thanks - looks like my 11 mbits could be higher with Tesco then.

it's not really a test just like the tesco one is not. It's an indication of what you possibly could expect in regards to the speed of service.

you enter your telephone number and postcode in and follow through the info it shows you ,, eg click on bt adsl and it will tell you your likely speed* use only the phone number -- imo to get a more realistic guess.

Looks like I'm not up to date with what VM offer outside their cabled areas, I didn't realise they'd started doing 2+. If you're on 11mbit right now you're on adsl2+. You probably won't see any improvement with Tesco, bar any chipset/dslam compatibility issues, and it could go down as much as up.
#22
Ok thanks again - I'm not up to date as I've never even heard of ADSL2+! Looks like it's a price only issue for me then.

BT Broadband deal looks better..
