My first post so please be gentle but after months of getting loads of bargains on this site thought I ought to share.

I like many other parents with little ones have to have calpol in the cupboard at all times!!! I recently started buying boots own as it's the same stuff but £3 something instead of £4 something. I was running out a couple of weeks ago and was at tesco pharmacy and saw their own brand at £1.56 so I gave it a go and I am not dissapointed it's great and does exactly the same as the stuff over three times the price (only difference is it's cherry not strawberry flavour and it's 3 months not 2 months plus.

Sorry don't know how to add a pic

Hope this helps a few people

sounds like it's worth a try at that price nice find and welcome, have some heat

Could you confirm it is 200ml as the standard bottles are 100 ml (We tend to use the Morrison own brand at just over a quid for 100ml - sainsburies want 1.89 for the same stuff - naughty)

Yes can confirm it is definatley 200ml

Try getting it on presciption or through the pharmacy first scheme, that way you wont need to pay. You will usually get generic paracetamol but it all does the same job!

The pharmacy first scheme really is fantastic and saved mum here a small fortune - I would recommend everyone joined this scheme if they have children.

i agree with above-can get it free on perscription from doctor or health visitor.good price though

It's fab - as tasty as Calpol so they will take it - the stuff from the docs works fine but tastes yuk!

Just did an online tesco and was only offered 100ml at 1.94 :(

Need to find out what 'pharmacy first' is me thinks.

Have a look at this.............http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2006/06/26102829/1

I live in scotland, but its UK wide and has been a godsend for me and my purse - plus if your in receipt of tax credits, adults also get free medicines etc.

Maybe.
However I still think parents are far too quick to dole out the paracetamol to little kids with little regard of the side effects. A lot of parents on this forum use this on a daily basis which is frightening

I tend to find as the temperature heads north of 39 and the child starts moaning/shivering it is kinder to give them some paracetamol to bring the temperature down than just leave them to tough it out but each to their own I guess.

Can they prescribe anything to help with parents' spelling?

The price is fine if its 11.45pm on a Saturday night (My Tesco's close's Midnight) - I am positive the Tesco stuff is the same as Calpol. After all, Paracetamol is paracetamol any way you make it.

If you cannot get on prescription, or from Hospital if you had to take the poor dear(s) there - you can also get for free from a few/some/all/most Pharmacy's who support the 'Minor Ailments Scheme' which I confess to only finding out about thanks to HUKD's a few months back.

Go into the chemist - quote as above, and on basis of self diagnosis and the Head Chemist looking at your child (normally needs to be present) you can walk out with medicine for free - no need for prescription! This also applys to adults who normally get free medicine too....

Good Luck

Sorry didn't know that it wasn't the same price on line as I didn't realise you could buy it online.
However I can vouch for the taste my daughter goes and sits herself on the sofa waiting patiently when the bottle comes out , she loves the taste.
In saying that though don't just give it her everyday because she likesit. In the last four weeks we have had episodes of teeth problems, croup and the dreaded swine flu so rather than make her suffer and on the advice of my gp we have been going through quite a lot.
I will be checking this pharmacy scheme though. Thanks for the info.

Advice for anyone who can get paracetamol on prescription - different pharmacies give different brands. They are unlikely to give actual calpol brand but the flavour will vary. I found Boots give out a red coloured medicine that my little one seems to think tastes like caplol! I know it all has the same active ingredient but taste and colour matter to some children!
