Britain's biggest petrol retailer has cut the cost of petrol by 2p per litre and the cost of diesel by 1p per litre at all of its petrol stations. The changes will come into effect by lunchtime today.
Tesco’s network of 500 filling stations is the largest of all UK supermarkets and the drop means millions of motorists across the country can save even more on the cost of fuel in the run up to Christmas.
The cut is in addition to savings customers can make through Fuel Save, which can be worth up to 20p off a litre. The more customers shop with Tesco, the more money they can save on fuel.
Peter Cattell, Fuel Director for Tesco said:
“We’re dropping the cost of petrol by 2p and diesel by 1p at all of our 500 filling stations. That’s on top of the 6p per litre average saving on petrol that Clubcard customers are currently getting thanks to our Fuel Save scheme. That means Clubcard customers visiting friends and family this Christmas can get the lowest price for petrol in the UK.”

whats the price of petrol then - dont think its stated
Probably because Tesco usually have different price across all their forecourts - higher in areas where they think they can get away with it, unlike Asda, who often have harmonised prices that are lower than Tesco. Every Lidl helps!

I refuelled at Tesco Chineham yesterday evening and it was 122.9 a litre for diesel. I also had 4p off on my clubcard, which helped.

This is great, thanks OP - just running my tank down now so I can use my 20p a litre saving on top, I think my local was 120.9, yesterday so with another 2p off that will be 118.9 and then with my 20p saving I will actually get a litre of Diesel for 98.9p per litre - wow!

The asda at the metro centre Gateshead was 115p a litre last week

Allegedly might drop another 5p in the next few weeks but not much lower since the majority of the price is duty and production/transport costs.

Also you can pretty much guarantee that if it stays low for a while HMG will whack some extra duty on it, which will stay on even when the price goes up.

Diesel 120.9 at Tesco near me this morning.

Nonsense! Cheaper fuel is, in general, a boost to the economy, both for motorists and consumers in general. Not so good for HMG (the VAT portion of fuel prices will be proportionately less) and oil producers.

Loving these recent drops in fuel prices, as my car does 30mpg on a good day xD

European stocks retreated as energy companies slid amid a drop in oil prices.

FTSE down over 100 points today so don't claim nonsense when the reason for the drop is printed for all to see!!

There is always a downside. Exploration being cut back already and possibly a lot of North Sea jobs going not just offshore.
Probably means higher prices in the long run.

Better to have a steady price that doesn't hurt motorists and keeps the industry ticking over. Right now this is the US fighting Russia and OPEC trying to kill off the competition with low prices.

Although I welcome any drop in fuel prices why is the cost divide between petrol and diesel getting larger?......3/4 months ago there was a 3p per litre disparity between petrol and diesel prices and now it is 6p!!.........I guess its because there are more diesel cars on the road now and fuel retailers want it to make out they are giving us diesel drivers something they are not!!

there are more diesels in Ireland but over in Ireland diesel is far more cheaper than petrol.
just depends on customers I guess

Nice...

$50 bucks a barrel for crude and no reduction in output to counteract the fall is on its way...

Sure a 99p deal is not far away now 8)

nb: above is pure speculation and is not intended to offer any logical reason why you should take any notice of the above and go without fuel in your vehicle in the hope that you will fill it up in the new year for less than it would cost you today :p

Its 1.149 at my local at the moment would be great if it went to 1.129 I need to fill up!

I was over the border in Co Donegal last weekend, and filled up for 108p per litre for Diesel :). Pity its about an hour and a halfs drive away lol.

Prices are only falling to ensure that one certain country that is sticking it's nose into Ukrainian affairs and relies heavily on oil exports has its economy ruined.
Once they been punished we will go back to even higher prices as no doubt fuel duties will have been increased whilst they have the chance.

Sainsbury's A57 Salford Regent Rd = 114.7p/119.7p. The shell across the road is closed for maintenance for a while and they used to be the cheapest shell around, just around 2p more than this sainsburys.

Asda and Lidl are the worse stores in the UK. Always somebody on here pulling Tesco down, they have reduced the price not put it up what the problem.

Nice timing, we're hopefully getting a car tomorrow and we've maxed out our fuel discount so we might have to test what it costs to fill up :)
