This is a fantastic price and a superb entry level Digital SLR which will serve you well even if you decide to become semi-pro. Bought it last year for some £600. Good find.

Great price and nice camera but hope you don't get messed about by Tesco Direct cause their customer service is appalling. They've got a habit of charging you for items they haven't got in stock and then telling you repeatedly that there will be a 24 hour delay.

This is an excellent price. I went into Jessops yesterday and almost bought one for £499.99 but walked out at the last minute. I just hope Tesco Direct don't let me down.

Thank you for a great site! Did not no of any issues with Tesco Direct. Will see how I get on. I don't mind waiting for a few days at this price.
Next best price I found was £424.00ish (not sure about £50 canon discount).
Don't pay £499 just shop about.

I can't say I've ever had a problem with Tesco Direct and I have ordered quite a few deliveries from there. Anyway remember Clubcard points as Dino said and I'm sure there is still a £5 voucher floating around somewhere (well it will cover the postage at least!) :)

£4.85 delivery unless you live by one of the selected collect from stores.

damn good price though...

Considering that it comes with the 18-55mm kit lens (not great but better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick) this is a fantastic price. Buy a decent lens, use the Casback promo on that as well and you have an excellent deal.

Voted Hot!

this site http://canonlensacc2007.onlinerebates.com/howtoclaim.aspx details the rebates, I think, but it only lists '400d body only' does this kit still count?

Neither am I but I've seen these things up against "normal" £100 digicams that are good quality things.

If left on auto it seems almost impossible to take a bad photo with it, anything dumb you do it seems to fix. Fantastic piece of equipment. If you have a young family or something and want really good documentation of them growing up then buying something like this in the first place is highly recommended.

If you just want to take pictures of your drunk mates in the pub or something to send to your Aunty Maureen saying "Look it snowed", then yes. Spend £30-£100.

It doesn't say "body only" it says "body" and you have bought a body as part of a pack.

Seems like it should and Tesco do SAY it does.

Excellent deal.

i know the nikon d80 is supossed be the slightly better camera, but for a price difference of £150 i would choose canon.
Im basing it on the nikon d80 body against this deal as the lens with this deal is terrible and can not even be used as a paper weight. only the fact that its more expensive without the lens goes to show.

Truly a amazing camaera for the price. recommend for any one who wants to step up from a manual film slr

Hi. Read many articles on DSLR. Everybody compares to Nikon D80 but there seems to be a major prices difference. A lot of people slating Canon lens but I am no expert and will wait till I test it myself.
Could anyone recommend a different lense for the Canon.

if u buy a canon kit that includes a lens, u still get the cashback due on the body, which is 50 quid.

and at 399-50, makes for a whopping deal....simply unbeatable value for money...

Got one and voted hot. Many thanks! Perhaps the 450 is about to come out, but still worth 350 IMHO!

It's worth spending quite a bit on a lens. If you have a look on eBay you will see that good lenses do not really deteriorate in price.

For a good "walk round" lens I would opt for the Canon 28-135mm lens. Yes it's not far off £300 but it has very good glass, a great zoom range (the EOS 400D has a factor of 1.6 times what you would get on a 35mm film camera due to the size of the sensor), is image stabilised and you have saved a packet on the camera anyway. For what it's worth, my basic lens was about £550 (24-105mm L series) but the results are amazing and I know that if I sell it in a year, I will get back what I paid for it.

If you just want a digital SLR... very pleased with Olympus I just got from ebuyer.

Camera "only" 8.8mp so spec is slightly below the Canon but package contains body and TWO very nice Zuiko lenses, 14-45mm and 40-150mm. £376 all in.

Just ordered!

Was going to go for Nikon D80 or possibly 30d/d200 but this was too good to miss.
I had some tesco vouchers saved up...the total I paid was - wait for it.....

£315......plus another £50 cashback (hopefully) brings it down to......

£265!!!!

What a bargain!

I just wish I had the initial outlay of £400 for this.
I will in a few weeks when my insurance claim get sorted out, but at the moment I don't even have 400 pence :(
Oh well, my Fuji S5600 is good enough for point 'n' shoot stuff.

Great Deal!!!
I'm so tempted, especially since i have a few very good lenses from my old EOS100 slr which should work with this. The 300mm one should be like a telescope, with the digital factoring, if I can get enough light in.

I hate chasing redemption vouchers though
#33
I got one last year to replace a stolen 300D. ( thats how I found out about hot uk deals )

Its a fantastic camera, with a lot of back up and many forums available to help. every one from the beginner to the pro.

If you want another lens then go for a 50mm f1.8. Its about £70 and you will not find a better lens for the money.

Thanks for posting this! I dashed down to Jessops to take advantage of their price match deal... It took them several phone calls and almost an hour for them to agree to match the price, after which they changed their policy with immediate effect. Apparently Tesco are selling these at a loss to 'disrupt the market' and Jessops just can't afford to match any more. Once again thanks for the post - and good luck to anybody trying to do the same!! :)
#35
Just in case you were looking for that £5 off voucher.
It is TDXR-DSJNNT

I think i'm gonna have to get one of these =)

I've been trawling the web for the best price, just spotted this & snapped it up. Used the £5 tesco direct discount code + £7 from quidco & saved £4.85 by collecting it (next week) in store...yippeeee!

Thanks all

Any ideas on where to buy the memory cards & a good case ?!
#40
I'm off to get my clubcard later today sign up and then purchase it. Can I purchase it now then use my clubcard points later? I shop at tesco's every week just never got round to applying.
