*******Also couldn't find the offer online.*******

The offer was in the fresh food isle - not frozen.

Whilst in Tesco (Hayes) last night I came across the deal and will try to remember as best I can what was included.

You have a choice of one side, one main (2 portions included), one dessert (again, 2 portions) and bottle of wine for £9.

Sides
Tesco Finest Goose Fat Roasting Potatoes
Tesco Finest Creamy Mash
Tesco Finest Green Vegetable Selection

Mains
Tesco Finest Chicken With Mushrooms & Madeira Sauce
Tesco Finest* Breaded Cod Fishcake Andgruyere Sauce 420g
Tesco Finest Mushroom Leek & Gruyere Parcels 320g

Desserts
Tesco Finest Tarte Au Chocolate 2 Pack 195g
Tesco Finest Tartes Au Citron. 2 Pack 195g

Choice of red or white - don't remember the brand, did notice they were marked as £6.99 on their own.

Also noticed a family meal deal further down, not the Finest branding - don't remember much detail - but did see a rather large lasagne, garlic bread and cauliflower cheese amongst other things. Deal included one side and one main for £5.*******

is this for online orders too?

Not that I can see I'm afraid.

Quite confident that this will be nationwide as there were promotional plaques highlighting the deal. Colour coded for each option.

Tesco's finest stuff is very nice - no doubt developed to compete with M & S - and this is £1 cheaper than their deals....

Check your receipt!

Bought this yesterday at Tesco in Andover.

Main was a beef dish,
Side - roast potato with Bacon
Dessert - Cheese cake
and a bottle of Claret wine.

Bought separately this would have come to £13.22 so deal saves £4.22.
That is as long as the check out registers the items as forming a deal! My receipt didn't.

Good news though was that when I pointed this out to Tesco they not only corrected the mistake by crediting the £4.22, but doubled the credit to £8.44 meaning the meal cost me under a fiver - BARGAIN!

Nice meal too.

Interesting. Tesco "deals" often dont show until you get to the bottom of the receipt. So after say 35 items you will see a total then below that it will say "MealDeal -£4.22" along with several other offers It will then say "Ttotal Savings" and give revised total . So message is make sure you check at bottom of receipt.

They were doing this in my local Tesco before Christmas so I guess it's back on. Wasnt too bad but really not as good as the M&S ones for just £1 more. Much smaller choice too.

They were also doing a deal minus wine (not finest) for £5, which frankly was better value.

rather pay extra for m&s when they have it on. tesco is nowhere near same qulaity imo

this offer was on in the Altrincham branch before christmas

Its been in both York branches of Tesco aswell for the last couple of months. The food is lovely and it is a bargain! I've bought a couple now and haven't been disappointed, my only grumble is that they don't stock enough of the offer! I don't think the M&S food is any better or any worse.

I did notice the £5 family deals the other day in Tesco aswell which looked fab if you're on a budget and don't like cooking, but I wouldn't buy them.

Saved £5.97 buying this. Got fishcakes with gruyere cheese sauce, goose fat spuds, choc pud and white wine. Wine on its own was £6.99, red one was £4.77

Only eaten fishcakes and choc tart so far but they were delicious, highly recommended :-D

Also saw the £5 deal but they only had lasagne and mash, both for 4 people in my local store (Rugby)

Waaaaaay better than M&S, they've actually got stock. Never managed to get an M&S one cause the shelves are usually empty :x

The fact that M&S run out of stock quickly shows they're good value!!

I've used both....foodwise M&S are a little bit better, but that's just imo......but the wine at Tesco is overpriced at £6.99...the same stuff goes out at under a fiver most of the time. Either way though, a meal + side+ pudding+ bottle of wine for a tenner ( or £9 ) has to be good value

I know its great value they've just never got enough stock for me to take advantage of the offer! I love M&S food, everything I've ever had has been great, just disappointed I've never had chance to get the offer

It is a sad reflection on most supermarket's methods of operating that they get so many people into stores by promising promotions that don't exist after a short time.

You really have to watch tesco online when ordering. I wish they make it easier to understand what the actual price you pay on the date of delivery is when you order, not just when you get your receipt on day of delivery.

For example a section on their link of Internet exclusive offers, (as of today 11.1.09) shows the following hellmans mayo 400g 89p (but displays £1.72 on your view basket) Tesco italian chopped tomatoes 4 x 400g £1.06 (showing £2.12 on your view basket) tesco free range eggs 76p (showing £1.52 on your view basket)

Tesco seem to have loads of offers, but they're all over the place. Sometimes the offer is on another link on their grocery site, but doesn't appear on their main list of items. eg: Hovis sensation seeds bread 3 for £3.00, but didn't appear with the other Hovis white thick or medium loafs in same offer.

I do wish tesco make life easier so you can see what you'll acually end up paying and not just relying on your receipt when it arrives with your grocery home delivery.:? which in our case has nesitated a phone call to their customer services to sort out the overpricing when the order arrives.

Are the special meal offers available online? We have seen them instore on occasions but don't recall seeing them online.
