Rib Eye! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. If you get a piece with some good marbling your in for a treat!
#4
Yes you are right, you are in for a treat, but not in my Tesco today, as they didn't have any at that price. Will be going back tomorrow. Have bought this steak from Tesco before and it is delicious!

Shame they don't do a halal version of this at any supermarket.
Good price though.

halal, why do you want the animal to suffer?
2 Likes #8
why is it people only give a **** about animal suffering when it's halal? If you care about animal suffering, DON'T EAT MEAT.
2 Likes #9
Halal animals have been through considerably less suffering than UK battery farmed animals bred for slaughter or their produce. Bolt in the head or a swift sever, if you are happy to eat meat, then really there is no difference. It takes literally two seconds for the halal way as the brain is starved of oxygen and nerve impulses by the huge virtually instant blood loss.

Either way the animals aren't handled with kid gloves. Too many people jump on the Halal band wagon that in actual fact are fundamentally racist and would only complain at something else muslims or jews do if they didn't use Halal meat.

I am not a veggie, a jew or muslim.

To please Allah, innit.

Bleedin evil morons.

That's a bit harsh. Halal and also Kosher slaughter are traditional methods that were designed to be swift and respectful of the animal. These techniques certainly do not exist to cause the animal more pain than necessary. Modern science may now be able to demonstrate improved methods of slaughter but these traditional techniques have been used for centuries. Until the advent of the captive bolt gun it is exactly what any English farmer would have done to slaughter livestock.

halal is illegal for a reason, i visit slaughter houses often, believe me there is a huge differance between a bolt in the head and having your throat cut and bleeding to death, the animals suffer to please a fictional chap in the sky....that is the point
#12
Normal Rib-Eye in Morrisons is better quality than this and only about £13/kg anyway.
#13
Good price.....I was at Jimmys Farm last week. His ribeye steak was £25 kg
#14
This is gorgeous steak, I had one at the weekend, but it isn't actually very much off the price

I don't have a problem with halal practices but insisting that Muslim slaughtermen carry out the task is prejudicial to women and to non-Muslims.

Other than that, I can confirm that Tesco finest range is pretty good!

Racial tension at HUKD today! Bit early for that people! I'm on the fence with this one but can't criticise either side of the argument. That's free speech for ya :)

Bigsky, Fleagal, MrShed, Monkey_uk, dudepop and any others I've missed - PLEASE - this is supposed to be a Deals forum. Can we leave out the religious stuff?
**** off the supermarkets - fine - perhaps even a light hearted pop at veggies but it's really not on to start a religious slagging match on what is supposed to be a friendly forum for nice people!!!! (And NO I'm NOT a religion freak - I don't care one way or another but I hate to see people making silly comments that are only going to upset someone.)
I'll get off my soap box now - thank you. :3

Has anyone actually bought any of this at the discounted price? Although I posted it, the information came from their website. I've looked 3 or 4 times now in two different stores and it is still priced up at £14.98 a kilo.

Where?
Is there a particularly obscure law specifically around your street or something that the rest of us are unaware of?

Sorry, but I didnt bring up any religious stuff! I merely said that someone making a discriminatory comment based upon religion is completely inappropriate! I make absolutely no apologies for that!

The provocation came from dudepop and was backed up by monkey_uk. Fortunately mods have removed the inflammatory comment from dudepop .

@micks_missus: Don't be surprised if posts that are ignorant, disrespectful and inflammatory attract comments from people that want to keep this forum civilised. You might be here solely to chase the next cheap food bargain but this forum would descend into chaos if childish antagonistic comments go unchecked. The mods can't read everything all the time so it takes someone to report a comment before inappropriate posts are removed.

Thank God/Allah/Yahweh/Bramhan/Tesco that some people are prepared to maintain some kind of decorum otherwise this site just wouldn't work.

Judging by what i've seen of halal slaughtering it takes a damn sight longer than two seconds. Yes, there is blood every where but the animal is struggling and looks under considerable distress and is very much conscious of what's happening for at least 30 seconds or so.

Stunning in some way beforehand is far more humane.

I'm not going to criticise methods of dispatch of animals but I will criticise supermarket meat. What is wrong with supporting your local butchers/farmers??

Agree though that ribeye rocks though!
