free on the NHS , the jab is a prevention...not a cure !

if you really had the flu mate you wouldn't be posting on here at 3am...

Yup - get it free from the NHS. Save a tenner. :) Unless you hate the doctors I guess....

Do you know which till number you have to go to and do you have to use your own bags??

i usually have to have a flu jab at docs due to being asthmatic, just for info, ths jab only covers one strain of flu, so it will protect you o som degree, but not against all viruses. also by having the injection they are putting th virus into your system and if unlucky you can get a bout of flu from having the jab and laid up for days... i am usually that unlucky person so have opted out this year as really don't fancy having flu. It really isn;t a magical cure, just prevents on type of flu.

Lol last place you'd be with the flu is wandering around Tesco...

i'm the same, got a light dose of flu from it four years ago, but nothing since. Doc says if you get th jab every year, you can actually build a bit of immumity to the strain of flu, meaning that the chances of you getting another dose of flu from the jab exponentially decrease year on year.

i feel that it's better to take the minute risk of getting flu from the jab, compared to getting the flu proper by not having the jab

m8 if youve already got flu dont geta flu jab, the flu jab gives you a little bit of flu and your emune system kills and remembers it, your just addin to the problem if you do. still not bad for a 10ner if u cba to go to doctors lol

With a possible flu pandemic just around the corner this is a small price to pay for the protection it offers.
Not everyone can get the jab for free so hot from me.

FLU JAB CANNOT GIVE YOU ANY TYPE OF FLU.

You can have a flu jab and then get a horrible cold a week later.......because you were going to get it anyway

If you are normally healthy, you don't really need this. Yes you will get coughs and colds like most people in the winter but flu jabs won't stop that anyway. Coughs and colds make you feel rotten and miserable but you can still mostly function. Simple paracetamol (30p) A packet of menthol sweets and hot drinks are all that is needed. There is no need to spend money on expensive items from pharmacist. COUGH MEDICINES DO NOT WORK.

With flu, you would not be able to stand up and would be flat in bed.

Like most things, if you pay for it you can have it but do you really need it?

By the way, this is not a deal, standard price for something if you needed it, you would get it free.

Well said - the flu jab is aimed at the older and morevulnerable population, and contains the strains of influenza virus that are common. There are other causes of colds, and there are other strains of flu, so you could still get ill

This will also NOT protect you in the unlikley event H5N1 stain of avian influenza manages to jump to humans

Just to comment Not All Doctors give this free. Once you've had real flu you are silly not to have the jab even if you have to pay for it.

The Flu is NOT your common cold, please don't confuse these. The Flu jab will not prevent you getting the common cold, which as I understand has millions of different variations, hence why there is no cure.

The Flu would have you bed ridden, and not out of choice!!!

I've only had flu once in my life - pretty sure I died and came back to life 7 days later

I can get it free because I am a 'essential public worker' (I'm really not), but I think this is a bad idea from supermarkets giving it out for £10. It'll just cause people to be even more paranoid and anti-nhs than they already are from the Daily Mail circles etc. (I'm a great defender of the NHS even tho my sister has had two hospital superbugs this year - you'd hate not to have them after all and my sister would be dead right now if not). And my dad died last year and mum this year; both would of suffered more without them. Sorry, I digress...

Like iglimpse and others have said, its free on the NHS if you need it. If they don't offer it to you free, you don't need it. Not that it matters, I've not bothered getting it. As you can guess from my rant, I've voted cold.

This years flu jab is pretty worthless if You ask me. Usually they pick a few of what they think will be the most common strains of flu (out of hundreds of potentials), but this year its just one strain.

I think they've just started giving them for the placebo effect, because people falsely believe that the flu jab will protect them in the case of a flu pandemic. Which of course it won't.

    Would you like to explain.

Who has ever paid a surgery for this. ?

Can make a charge just like Tesco, if you don't need it. But anyone who qualifies, should never pay.

I used to get colds all the time until I started taking the flu jab. Then I didn't have a cold at all for three years until last winter when I missed the jab, then I had loads again. This year I had the jab again & am cold free (so far). I've asked my doctor about this & apparently lots of people say the same thing but there's no evidence to say its related.

No there is no evidence because cold and flu are 2 different things. You are being immunised against ONE strain of flu........not colds
