I'm guessing this was in an Express store, as you seem to have paid a bit extra for some of the items. The mayo is £1.49 in regular stores and the olive oil is £1.99.

looks to me like they massively inflate the standard price then reduce and call it 50% off.

wouldnt dream of paying £1.40 for a tin of tuna!

I agree. Used to be £2 for 4 tuna tins. Just ripping people off, then saying its a great deal. When Sainsbury as an example, profits increase 11percent - you have to ask is that efficiency savings, or are supermarkets [monopolists] screwing more from the customer while at the same time their marketing department shouts of all the splendid offers they have and how they are helping people in difficulty by keeping prices low. Their loyalty is to their bankers and shareholders. Collusion? don't rule it out.

Im on a tight budget and have been horrifed by the increase in tuna prices in the past year. My son eats a lot of it and I've had to cut right back. It has gone up by about 40%, along with rice and pasta. :(

btw... Princes tuna is VERY fishy smelling. My son won't eat it and I thought he was being overly fussy til I opened a can and nearly keeled over at the smell. I stick to Tesco own brand now.

its actually bad for cats to eat tinned fish of any kind but tuna is the worst offender.

its ok as a treat every so often

I was told the same for my cats too when they were both ill, its actually not true that Tuna/salmon is bad for them and thats coming from vets and cats protection.

Indeed. It wasn't long ago that the Isla Negra wine was one of their "3 for a tenner" wines. I can't see that quality has improved, or the exchange rate has moved, to make it an 8 quid wine.

Around £4 is probably the right price for a wine that I would put into the "potable plonk" category.

I remember hearing recently that tuna were in danger of becoming extinct by 2012 (i guess due to overfishing). Perhaps this explains the rise in price of tuna. I don't eat it myself.
#16
The demand in Tuna (espically blue fin) has soared due to the increased popularity of Sushi/japanese dishes in the western world.
