Who in their right mind would feel the need to give other people parenting advice on the internet, about whether their child should be allowed to play around on a tablet?

stay clear . worst tablet I've ever had . Tesco gave me a Samsung galaxy 3 8 inch tab to replace it and left me with the Hudl that now doesn't charge and has an unresponsive screen problem after 4 replacements.

Always going to be a few dodgy ones when they're making as many as they have of this. Wife's got a Hudl, isn't going to set the world alight but for browsing, movie playback (it's got HDMI) and casual type games it's perfectly fine and a good buy at this price IMHO.

The price is everything though isn't it? and as a 32gb Nexus 7 (2012) can be picked up refurbished on eBay for an extra £11, Where would you be throwing your money?

I'll second area it's comments. Friends 2 kids went through 4 of these with varying problems. Tesco were aware of them all. Think maybe they rushed the released date.

I'm not aware that research has linked tablet use to alcohol and tobacco consumption yet.

There are some very bright 2 year olds out there and why should they not gain pleasure from the experience of the simplicity that a tablet offers?

Who in their right mind would give a two year old a tablet to play with!!

I have one, great for videos, and music i guess, and pretty tough, so i am happy to carry around in a bag if travelling

BUT really pretty horrible as a browser, laggy, etc.

Not bad for £60 if used as an entertainment device I guess, but may well be worth waiting for the clubcard boost thing if folk have any decent vouchers to use up

I'd only heard good things about the Hudl, but according to this deal comments thread, it's the worst tablet in the world.

Can anyone advise?

The screen and build quality are great for the price, but the performance leaves a lot to be desired. I suppose it's acceptable for £59 but you'll have to limit yourself to doing one task at a time. Switching between apps is very slow and frustrating. I found the browser particularly bad.

Would these take XBMC?

Had one since launch, works well, good value.

Disgusting how people are judging someone for letting their child play with a tab. No need. Surely the comments should be about the deal not slating other people.

I think the deal is fab. Got my little sister one for Christmas last year and my 8 and 4 year old one for Christmas this year. Good tab and brill for the money
#23
The comments should indeed be regarding the tab but two is a little young, but the parents need a break and finger painting, reading and making toys out of old cardboard boxes is so laborious these days. I do love the digital age though no kids on the streets now. Heat btw

Bought one when these were 79 six months in and runs fine.

Wow, never was aware The One Show had become the de facto in tablet reviews!

Hope no ends up with the 3 that I've had to return, left side of screen not work, hdmi issue on 2nd, erratic screen touch/volume down return to home screen everytime its pressed on 3rd.

Currently on 4th, When it works its a excellent tab for the price, hmdi out is 1 of the best features. shame so many niggly issues with them. Hope they sort it out on the upcoming Hudl 2.

I bet they rushed version 1, 2 should get a lot better

Good price and whilst HUdL isn't amazing it certainly good value for the money.

I let my daughter use whose is under two use my ipad, and it's amazing how her development has come on. Intrigued why someone would have a problem with a child using a tablet device. Like everything it's ok in moderation and as long as your child is monitored cannot see the problem. Daughter uses it for watching player and doing simply games and interactive stories and can already navigate menus better than a lot of adults.
#29
4 year old has a Samsung galaxy tab 3 and 6 year old has an iPad don't see what the problem is with 2 year olds having tablets, 4 year old had a blackberry playbook at 2
banned#30
They are educational tools if used properly, you're helping your kids progress faster.
#31
Heat added for the heads up! FWIW my 2 year old uses his laptop and can actually power it on, click on the guest account (no password), open Chrome and browse to youtube and select watch Tom & Jerry. I think it's amazing, I should probably video it for the doubters (or at least up date my avatar pic!)....
All my kids have DS's & DSi's, they all have BlackBerry's (which only function for Wifi now that Ovivo has gone!), an i5 laptop each, yet they still fight over the tablet!

Aren't you making an over-the-top judgement yourself. Disgusting? Really that bad? Don't get so defensive about it. Give your kid a tablet if you want to and let others make indirect opinions about kids and tablets online if they wish. Freedom on both sides.

You really have to be a bit of an idiot to deprive your children of getting to grips with technology in the 21st century. My 4 & 6 year old both have IT lessons at school and the older one will be programming on Raspberry Pi's after the summer holidays as part of their curriculum. It's helped my eldest immensely as long as it's monitored correctly. I was thinking of getting a couple of these for them for Christmas but I think I'll hang it out until version 2 comes out.

He did not imply whatsoever that they "had become the de facto in tablet reviews", the OP just said: "Hudl comes top of BBC One's 'The One Show' family tablet test". If that doesn't cut any ice with you fine. Doesn't with me either but he was only stating a fact that might with some.

Ones who recognise the educational value that they can have and are aware that young children are information sponges.

Ones whose children will likely go on to very successful lives.

it's made by Archos this is why it's poorly made tablet. tesco is all about low quality to generate sales/profit even with food. the likes of aldi & lidl sell much better quality food for less money.

I've got one of these and although it isn't the lightest or the best screen it still does a great job for the money. It's capable of playing all the games on Google play and also has expandable memory, so you can throw a load of films on it when going on holiday (and if you get a cable off amazon you can plug it into the back of the hotel rooms tv and watch them up on that). although one thing to note is that the built in speakers don't turn up very loud so we have to wear headphones or use a third party wireless bluetooth speaker.

I would recommend as a first tablet for anyone who just wants a tablet to mess around, watch films and surf the net on. But not if your wanting it do any real work on as you'll get frustrated with the screen size for typing.

refurbished stuff is a massive risk, this is second hand and should be worth £20

Got one off Tesco outlet few months ago and it came in its original box and only very minor mark on back, we got it for our 2.4 month year old lol cant see why you would not want your child to learn these are great tools for them and she is very advanced for her age as she has been using mums phone or a tablet since she was 1 and she can count to 15 and knows all her colours and im sure this is down to using the apps on phone/tablet she is more advanced than all the others her age at my sisters child minding business.
