Has anyone ever used one of these ?

And while this Adapter is connected via a Powered Broadband Router can the PC be switched off and the phone still works ?

I am using similar device and works pretty well. Note that it won't work with Skype, only with SIP providers.
PC is not required at all (apart from setup) in case of my device and I believe this is also true for this one as it is using Ethernet connection.

My one cost me 30 quid. I am not sure if this one is unlocked (some of ATAs are locked). If it is, then it a good price. If it is locked to Tesco, then not.

Yes of course :) Since when Tesco became a charity?
There are some other providers that let you to make free UK, Euro and US/Canada calls but I am not sure if this box will work with it (i.e. locked).
