Any chicken being reared by one of Tesco's suppliers is better off dead anyway.

a clucking good deal

hot n re from me

Tesco = worst meat of any of the supermarkets

These will not be nice. But if you want a cheap fatty-protein meal then that's up to you. I won't be wasting a fiver on it though so it's cold from me.

Is it wrong to vote hot purely on the basis he posted a photo of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall?

Wash your mouth out-these chickens have tons of meat on them.

Fat & protein? I'm not sure what else you're expecting to find in chicken meat, to be honest.

Seems like a pretty foul deal to me.

Heat added...

I hate people who have a problem with deals like this, half the **** your probably eating is going to be exploiting something. Unless you go and harvest everything yourself and rear livestock and kill it humanely then stfu because your idiots. Who cares anyway, were top of the food chain if the chickens have a problem with it why dont they tell us? oh yeah because they are food for our consumption, hardly an intelligent emotional animal, boo hoo, feed me - hungry.

P.S I LIKE CHICKEN MAYO

Serious internets are serious.

And to be honest I can't see anyone really disagreeing with you. Erm, nice rant though! :D

you're*

:)

I don't get why you'd want to fill your mouth with under-nourished, disease ridden livestock, up to you really and I don't vote hot or cold either way (it's a good deal for some). Personally I'd prefer to pay a bit more and know the chickens more likely to be of good quality. I'm not fussed about it's 'quality of life' though, just fussed with the standard of **** I'm eating! However the supermarkets are easy targets - have you seen the state of the meat sold from burger vans? They're 100x worse but don't really get much campaigning against them because they're not corporate giants.

I want to know what the copper has got in his right hand!
Looks like another paltry bit of poultry to me.

Eat a bit less but buy free range....You CAN taste the difference. The meat on battery reared chickens is soft and pappy.Think about what you are putting inside you.Cold form me.

Thank you so much for posting such a good deal this side of christmas. After being so very broke right now, I can't really afford to pay £10 for one orgasmic chicken so really do enjoy getting enough meat to last the week! If you hadn't have posted this deal, I might have turned vegetarian because of the extortionate cost of all this free range pampered rubbish. The things are bred to be eaten so why show them the brighter side of life when they're just going to get the chop at the end of it anyway? It'll certainly stop me driving around country lanes trying to knock down innocent rabbits for a while anyway.

There was a news item over the christmas period that was showing you how to have a cheaper christmas and saying really reasonable things. Like why buy a turkey when a chicken will most likely be enough for your family and it tastes nicer. They also made the point that although there is a difference in taste it is not a great difference and because whole chicken is off the bone it will not have had water and protein added to plump it up. So yes there is a small taste difference but when they are cooked, they look the same and smell the same as an organic chicken but are much cheaper. So what is more important making sure your kids have a balanced healthy meal and buying a cheaper chicken that you can afford or not buying one at all as your conscience is bothered by it and your kids lacking the protein to maintain a healthy lifestyle?:-D rant over. I just think people should just be balanced, if you can afford it then buy organic but if you can't just be happy in the knowledge that your family will be enjoying a nice healthy meal:roll:

"free range pampered rubbish"

i own a small deli and dont sell anything but freerange or organic chicken as there is a huge difference, cheap chicken when cut is like blubber rather than meat. When you cut through an freerange or organic chicken you feel the fibres in its meat as meat should have, the eggs are a different colour (much darker yellow instead of a watery yellow). Freerange or organic is not pampered, it is the bare minimum quality you should put in your mouth. The blood inside the bones of regular tortured chickens is frankly sickening, they are diseased and can only survive through the medicines they receive as naturally they would die. My mate used to work in the cheapo chicken factory outside Edinburgh if you want to hear some nice stories i can share them.He is propely skint with three kids and does not touch cheap chicken. Eat good chicken once a week and have some good veg and if you NEED meat, go to the butcher and get some cheaper cuts of beef instead, you can make some Micheline star food with a little bit of effort for buttons if you dont just opt for the easy options, money is not an excuse, its convenience not cost.

Thanks for that - it made the post worthwhile. Very easy to bang on about free range chickens if you can afford them, isn't it?

I think you miss the point. You can get free range large chickens for £5 these days and the difference in taste is huge. Fair enough if you're skint but a lot of people do actually care what goes inside their mouths :-D

I agree. Its not the quality of life it's the quality of taste (If you can say that). Okay so you pay twice the price and realistically it doesn't taste ``twice as good'' if taste can be defined like that but its the same with all food, a £40 bottle of wine isn't twice as good as a £20 bottle, every time you double the price of food it gets a little bit tastier. It's not about the Chickens it's about my satisfaction and fulfilment.
Living well and eating well are priceless. You only live once and a nice meal with good quality food and good company for me beats almost anything else. Its worth giving up buying the paper for a week or not buying that bottle of wine to eat nicer tasting things!

Hmmm. Not an animal lover then I take it. Free range animals AREN'T pampered, they are just given as normal a life as possible without being mistreated. Battery farmed animals ARE being treated badly but if you don't think so then that's up to you.

Cold as the Tesco board's hearts

You are just a bunch of chicken killers!

YOU KNOW you can change your ways, but you won't give your poor chickens a bit of space (So they don't trample their mates to death), a haystack and a dangly corn, not a lot to ask in this day and age is it?

Rant over.:p
#40
The chickens seem perfectly happy when they are sitting on the shelves in Tescos. I've never heard any complaints:p
