I know there has been a price war on Bananas between all the supermarkets, but this is another level. Yesterday these were 1.05. This isnt a "saver offer" its simply the new price.

Estimated pack size 1.5kg+.

I'm a greengrocer and can tell you they're selling these at a loss.

When i go to the wholesale markets to buy my bananas theyre more expensive as the supermarkets have bought them all up. Customers then wonder why I'm 'more expensive then Tesco'

In a nutshell independent traders like us regularly get shafted by these price wars.

Not complaining, just putting it out there.

Then beat them on choice and service, sir. You have flexibility, they do not.

They will all turn yellow given some time :)

I love green bananas!

I wonder whether tesco and asda are subsidising this massive price drop or if the poor farmers are losing out ? Great price though

Don't Tesco have their own supply chain and source directly from the producer? I doubt they go to local wholesale markets to purchase their product. Also - isn't selling below cost illegal?

Fairtrade bananas at Waitrose Godalming are currently 9p/kg! Yes, nine pence!

I didn't realise until my bunch went through for 7p yesterday!

No idea if this is nationwide or a one-off.

65p for 1.5kg is very good.
Sainsburys are around 65p for 1kg of Fairtrade ones.

Just checked my receipt on my yesterday Tesco shopping and realised the price for loose bananas (not market value) was 67p/kg!
#15
these arent as good as buying loose bananas.

Seems to be an annual thing now this banana-price-war. I'm fairly sure this time last year bananas were under 50p/kilo across the board in the supermarkets, then they shot up to closer to £1 near Christmas and stayed there.

Damn i fancy a banana. Please someone throw me one :)

"Tesco Market"

A bless, they're looking after the shoppers after all. Proper little markets with great prices, a bit of banter, a fine range of goods and all sourced from kindly local suppliers to help the community.

Next thing they'll be having little fishmongers in-store with sad blokes wearing plastic hats who pretend they saw a boat once.

Bananas my second favorite stuff from South America ;) Hot deal

No.

I see lidl are having a half-price sale on fruit & veg - this usually means my local Tesco metro drops prices for the 2 weeks or so this promo lasts.
